Just the Three of Us... ta da ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 09:52:10 -0400 From: Anne Sawyer Subject: Hey now... You're an All Star Getcher game on Go play... Hey all! Hey. Here's a question. Anyone else think that the *real* lyrics to the next part of the chorus of this Smashmouth song are more akin to the following: Hey now You're a rock star Get the show on Get laid Somehow "Get paid" just doesn't seem right to me... Of course, I don't have the album, so I don't know. Moving on. So yeah... I watched the HR Derby* last night (along with the Celebrity Challenge**), and I would like to say a few things. 1.) Do not attempt a Boston accent unless you: a.) grew up fairly close to Boston b.) are an actor and have a really good voice coach (and even then it could be iffy***) 2.) If you feel you must attempt an accent, do not use it ad nauseum. Once or twice is enough. 3.) Matt Damon is not from South Boston. He played a character in a movie who was from Southie. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck grew up in Cambridge. And oh, by the way... if you are an on-air personality, and your research team corrects you... simply correct yourself. Don't dig yourself a deeper hole by saying something like; "Matt Damon grew up in Cambridge, in South Boston." Cambridge is NOT in South Boston. Get your freaking facts straight, ESPN! 4.) The Massachusetts Turnpike is commonly referred to as the Mass Pike. If you feel you must give the entire moniker, do so once and then switch. To do otherwise reveals a lack of understanding of the region. 5.) Must we really dredge up the worst moments in Boston sports over and over again? I've got Bill Buckner's error imprinted on the backs of my eyelids, I do not need to see the footage ever again. Could we perhaps concentrate on the legendary BoSox players of the past instead? I mean, c'mon! Look at who we've had in Boston through the years: Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice, Cy Young, Rico Petrocelli, Joe Cronin, Dom DiMaggio, Carlton Fisk, Jimmy Piersall, Luis Tiant, Johnny Pesky, Tony Conigliaro, Dwight Evans, Tris Speaker, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Fred Lynn... and let's not forget Babe Ruth. *sigh* Curse of the Bambino, indeed... 6.) Speaking of Boston legends... did you catch Jim Ed's performance in the Celebrity challenge? And how about Freddie Lynn? The Gold Dust Twins of '75 are still looking pretty damn good. How ya like them apples? But I digress. I am hoping against hope that Fox refrains from using horrendous Boston accents during tonight's All Star Game broadcast. But I'm pretty damn sure that is too much to ask. That's about all from me for today. [My apologies to Markus for all the baseball talk! *grin*] Go Jose, Pedro & Nomar! Take care, all... - -Anne P.S. Bentent? Here's some: BFF has never played a club on Lansdowne Street, which is the street that runs behind the Green Monster. :) * From the comfort of my living room. Sorry, E... I was not about to deal with the insanity that was Lansdowne Street last night!!! Did you see that mob in the street when McGwire was hitting them over the net? Oof. ** Kevin Costner****, Doug Flutie***** and Matt Damon****** all on the field at once? Be still my heart! *** Four words: Rob Morrow, Quiz Show **** How psyched am I for 'For the Love of the Game' to finally come out? Very. ***** My original pin-up. Yep. Doug & Darren Flutie and Roger Taylor were on my bedroom walls during junior high... ******Although as you all know, I prefer Ben Affleck. :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 10:37:39 EDT From: Eriklyons1@aol.com Subject: best laid plans I am writing this as fast as I can to ensure it follows Anne's post. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I think the lyrics are (and I have been singing these particular lyrics since WFNX debuted the song over a month ago): Hey now your a rock star take your clothes off get laid. Lemme just say Mrs. Lyons (not Anne, since she isn't a Lyons anymore) gives me very strange and uninviting looks. So let's all take our clothes off and get laid. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 10:44:06 EDT From: Eriklyons1@aol.com Subject: and, to add further insult to injury after browsing further down Anne's post: Ain't it a shame that you Bostonians cannot say with any certainty Carlton Fisk will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Red Sox. As opposed, of course, to where he RETIRED and was given a nice HARLEY as a Southsider (a la Eric) and WHITE SOX. Ahhhh, the agony".....hey Bill, why you lookin' at your shoelaces? The ball is BEHIND you....." the curse of the CUBS, transferred to the BOSOX.... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 07:57:47 PDT From: "Markus Kamp" Subject: All-Stars Remind me to post a bunch of obscure referential crap about the MLS All-Star game in a week:-)! Oh, and have I mentioned that I've sent in an application for the newly-opened position of Brandi Chastain's stalker? Well, I have. She has forever raised the standards by which all women will henceforth be judged. She's gutsy, witty, athletic, beautiful, and likes to strip. What's not to love?!?!?! :-) Markus Kamp - Sinforosa http://www.sinforosa.com/markus.html _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. [Two posts in one day... and no, I don't think it's clever! *grin*] Hello again, all... Markus, m'dear... if'n yer gonna bust on me, at least get it right! You'll have to post about the Dribble, Pass & Shoot Tourney occurring the day *before* the All-Star game. You'll also have to inform the masses about San Diegan factoids... But I still say that hitting off a major league pitcher is the hardest thing to do in sports. Period. And Markus? You. Are. A. Drummer. And a good one to boot! You shouldn't have to stalk anyone. Send Ms. Chastain a copy of DFT and an invitation to go out next time she's in Seattle... she'll fall for you like a ton o' bricks! bricks... Brick... BFF... Bentent! Anne, you ignorant slut...oops, sorry, this isn't SNL, 1974! I sure hope Brandi (she's a fine girl, but my life, my lover, my lady is the sea) Chastain's husband likes Sinforosa, 'cause that's what he's getting. Markus Kamp - Sinforosa http://www.sinforosa.com/markus.html PS. Sorry to all you non-Anne, non-Markus members of these here Files, but it looks like the Den Mother & Little Drummer Boy have 1ce again co-opted this list for their own personal bemusement. Mayhaps in so doing, we'll tempt Spec, Eris, and Militant Matthew out of the tar-paper shacks long enough for them to post Manifesto(e)s of their own! _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
