But don't blame me right now I have the flu. This misterpoll.com thing has kept me entertained for the past hour and a half. You must all go and take my poll! It's really cool, it's the whole side of a > building, and has Darren, Ben, and Robert close-up with denim > jackets. Robert > is holding a sign that says "Home is where you left your keys." We have one of those in L.A. too. It's painted on the side of a building that you can see if you're heading East on the 10 just outside of downtown. only it's a really shitty rendering of them/ Robert looks like he could use an appointment with Jenny Craig. But on our ad, Darren is holding the sign and it says "Don't Forget to Breed." yeah, okay boys. whatever. yesterday I got an advance of the new Luscious Jackson CD, and I do believe it rocks. The coolest thing though, is the promotional item that Nasty sent with it. The album is called Electric Honey, so they sent a small jar of honey with the label "Luscious Jackson's Electric Honey. First Single: Ladyfingers. In Stores June 29th." it's soooo freaking cute! it comes with a little wand and everything. last night i caught Saint Etienne way the fuck out in pomona, and it was a really fun show (even if they didn't play Split Screen). but very strange to actually trek to Pomona. indeed it's a pulsing metropolis. i love my internship. while i don't get paid, let me never say that i don't get compensated. One of the head guys in the office had a giant box of CDs that he didn't want, so he was like "Hey, do want any?' so i got to pillage. and may i just say that if ever there was a place for good pillaging of CDs to be had, it is most *certainly* at a record label. So i snagged a ton of great stuff; Snowpony, the Bottle Rocket AND Rushmore soundtracks, Arab Strap, Echobelly, eels, Fountains of Wayne (okay, i'm sold on them now- but i still hate that Denise song), Lyle Lovett and the Brian Jonestown Massace. I must say that BJM are really ace. the singer sounds a bit Bob Dylan-ish, and i'm quite pleased. especially considering i only snagged it on a whim and name recognition. i need to go to a movie. I think i want to go see Limbo, the new John Sayles film. he's so incredible; Lone Star was just an amazing movie. and gosh, i think that's the only thing that's out this weekend. aside from Instinct, of course; but just watch me rush out to see that one. yeah, i'll run to that about as fast as i'm gonna run to see the General's Daughter. ugh. i did see an advance of The Thomas Crown Affair last wednesday. it's the new Pierce brosnan/Rene Russo moive. it was really quite good. it's a remake of the 1968 version with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. there are just some genius scenes in it. especially this one play on that Magritte painting with the man in the bowler hat with the apple over his face. i think it comes out in August. okay, i should really ponder taking a shower and getting dressed. ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "Hello? Tuesday 6/8: Los Straitjackets @ Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Syracuse. Free. Wednesday 6/9: My Friend Steve/Owsley @ Styleen's, Syracuse. $10. Problem: Both shows are over 21. I have no fake ID. Dammit! David Garza is also playing Wednesday in Ithaca, and if I had a fake I could go to that one, too. It sucks. It really sucks. But no bother. I am definitely going to DC. That makes all of these shitty shifts and parties missed because I have to work worth it all. Knicks, baby. Knicks all the way. Feel the power. Got the two-disc Sloan live set. I like it a lot. It's something that, I guess, requires previous knowledge of Sloan to "get", but it's really very stellar as far as live sets go. And so far as I can tell (as I am the official Fjord Woodstock source, although I'm going to chase Looper around the Mid-Atlantic instead that week), BFF is _not_ playing Woodstock. They haven't been announced yet. Also, July 17 at Red Rocks is the Rave on the Rocks, featuring Fatboy Slim and Chemical Brothers. Something tells me BFF wouldn't mesh well. :) And if you're wondering, the weird Jordan-Dan parallelism thing is officially false. he has a girlfriend. I have a bitchin job. There, once and for all, do the similarities stop. Good day. ~Dan ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V2 #172 *********************************
