I don't know why my emails aren't going through. I guess I'll give it one more try. Today I went up to Phoenix. A band there invited me up for a show, and let me tell you, it was spectacular. I'm really heavy into the powerpop scene (Tories, Grays, etc) and thats what this band was. The show was great, and afterwards, they treated me to lunch. They are all really great guys. It was a wonderful day. I got the scoop on the Ben Folds Five show here in AZ, but it turns out I'll miss out on Elvis Costello and I'll have to let the friend I was gonna see Elvis with down. =-( They are honoring the BFF tix I bought though, so at least I'm not out of that money. 3 weeks til my 21st. The thing is, I think I ruined it. See, I got very, beyond all dunkedness that I had been before drunk... it was very not fun, my friends. very much not fun. We're talking oh, geez, 5 or more hours praying to the porcelin god. Not to go into the gory details, but thank god I had a friend there to hold back my hair, wipe my mouth, and try and keep water in my system. I couldn't move, talk, or anything, and I had alcohol poisning pretty bad. I thought I was gonna die. Funny thing... I was still mumbling about Ben Folds Five, my friend said. When I woke up the next morning, I sat up in bed, and said "I really should go, I have to buy Ben Folds Five tickets this morning, they go on sale." he said "THATS what you were saying last night!!!" Well, at least I feel well loved by my friends as they all made sure I was ok. Anyway, my point of bringing this all up is that 9 or 10 days later, the smell of alcohol still makes me ill... I just hope I'll be able to have fun on my 21st, ya know? Just over a month til I fly out east and visit Baltimore, DC, Chapel Hill (Hi Sandi and Ginger! =-) New Jersey (Hi Leigh!) and NYC. I soooo cannot wait!!!!! I guess thats all for me... pray this one makes it to the list. stacy The best things in life don't make any sense -Odds "The Best Things" Stacy Lynn stacyf@u.arizona.edu http://www.u.arizona.edu/~stacyf icq: 7641939 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 May 1999 09:26:38 CDT From: "Fearless Leader" Subject: I thought Seinfeld was cancelled? So what the heck is George doin? Not much, I don't think...anymore. I just wanted to post to say that poor Marcus has no luck when it comes to BFF visiting the greater Seattle area. I can't believe the show was exterminated. Well, as Courtney mentioned, I do hope he is in the greater Orange County area for the show in June. What I have not seen are any tour dates for the Sinforosa clan? But, I know, making ray guns are of high priority. Maybe I can feed of this trend and make a buck myself....Hmmm, Raygun Protection glasses...Raygun Protective Lotion....Raygun HOLSTERS!!! YESSSS!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Jess, Barbi has some kind of configuration problem with her school. We tried eversohard to work it out, but to no avail. So she reads from the smoe page. Eric, to update my semi-charmed life, I am looking for a new job, and quick. Remember in the Star Trek, Khan, when he puts the little brain eating creatures in the two trekies?? Thatz what I feel like when I am work. Okay, enough outta me. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Staff Writer Chris Nelson reports: These days Lauryn Hill takes her Levi's on tour with her. Britney Spears won't be seen dead in a Tommy Hilfiger store without his jeans on. Even pop piano trio Ben Folds Five are getting into the act -- commercial advertising, that is. From sugary teen-pop sensation Spears to Grammy star Hill, music artists are making the most of their celebrity and giving major marketing companies another high-powered advertising tool. Cross Spears with the savvy marketing of clothing designer Hilfiger, and odd things can happen. Sentences, for example, that mix the Valley Girl with the Wall Streeter. And that's the point. "She is totally our demographic," a spokesperson for Tommy Hilfiger's Tommy Jeans said. Which is why Tommy Jeans has enlisted Spears to sign autographs at the company's stores this summer over the strains of her hit "... Baby One More Time" (RealAudio excerpt). Similar cross-cultural observations are likely taking place in boardrooms across the U.S. as nonmusic industries -- the apparel trade in particular -- line up to link themselves with the hottest music stars. Where once companies sought only to attach their names to bands and tours -- the Rolling Stones raised some fans' ire simply by taking sponsorship money from Jovan Musk cologne in 1982 -- now some are trying to forge more subtle connections by making it appear as if they're part of the band's life. Earlier this spring, Grammy-winning singer/rapper Lauryn Hill wrapped up a major tour on which she wore Levi Strauss clothes exclusively onstage. Levi's has also put pop-rockers Ben Folds Five and rappers De La Soul in a new ad campaign and this month unveiled plans to sponsor a summer tour featuring rock bands the Goo Goo Dolls and Sugar Ray. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Guess they got hitched at their house over the weekend. Kinda cool. So Congrats to the Folds! (and future Folds, due in July) They quoted Ben as saying his wedding was the best wedding he has ever played. Right On! So anyway, back to the radio thingy. The morning show will be doing some kind of segment called Ben Folds Five or Party of Five tomorrow morning (TUESDAY), 6am-10am e.s.t. It is available over the net at www.wfnx.com or www.broadcast.com/radio/alternative/wfnx by the by, that post last week requesting some guitar tab for MAGIC was in reference to the Darren Jessee (DJ) version. I hope I didn't cause any confusion (and I still can't find it). sorry to be so ever-present on this day we call Monday. but sometimes, it can be just plain fun to be seen and heard! = ) _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I went down to Toledo on Friday night for the pre-party. I proceeded to get a good view of the land of the drunk and ended the evening playing Lunch Money, which is simply the greatest card game in history. The next day, we woke up and headed to Columbus, where the real party was. There, I and my gorgeous female friend Kat just became sex objects upon walking in the door. I reveled in my hedonism for a while, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I still have the scratch marks. So, now that I have ego material for the next few weeks, I'm going to sign off and go try the BFF contest on the Shrubbery. Laters all! Ben and Frally sitting in a tree. who wants to start a betting pool to see how long THIS one lasts? Ginger is here, and the other day on our way out to see Jude play in Santa Ana, we saw it. The boys' Levi's ad painted on the side of a building. a biiiiiig building. it was a rather shitty rendering of them though. hopefully Ginger's picture came out and it'll be in the Shrub next month. Elisabeth mentioned wanting to see the Blair Witch Project. I saw it last week (somehow one of my friends had the rough sound mix on video), and it scared the shit out of me. I didn't go to bed that night until the sun rose.
