I think Regrets was originally a bridge section for Army, wasn't it? Truth and Rumors mentions something to that effect. Magic reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel, "the Boxer." and the Redneck Past oh oh oh intro vocals are also sort of reminiscent of S&G. Not that Ben is a thief or anything stupid like that. . .I'm just entertained by the comparison. _________________________________________ http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/1094/ Hannah Kuhlmann - kuhl0025@tc.umn.edu _________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 03:40:26 -0500 From: Jessica Brandt Subject: BFF contest, link exchange Hey, the Shrub is running a contest in the May issue (out after May 1) to win an autographed Brick/Fair single (all 3 guys signed it) I'm working on the contest page now (it'll be another x-word puzzle) and i am trying to solicit link exchanges from people with BFF pages. If you have a BFF page and wouldn't mind putting up a link to the contest and the interview with Ben (along with a nice Shrub button) i'd appreciate it, and will return the favor by adding a link to YOUR page on the contest page of the Shrub (just for may, and it will remain in the archives). If you're interested, please email me at jbrandt@kent.edu Thanks, and more on the contest after May 1!!! Well, being one of two truly upbeat songs on the album, yes. But what Regrets REALLY sounds like is Pink Floyd's 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond.' That whole ending part is a total rip-off. But it still rocks! The Irving Plaza show tonight was fun. What makes it ALL the fun is the great people who go to these shows. I met a guy tonight who flew out from Seattle just for one day, for this one show! Another guy came from L.A. to spend the week and catch the shows. And this girl lives in the city and she came to the show too. She was damn cool. So yeah, even more than I love Ben Folds Five, I love Ben Folds Five fans. They are good, good people, as you all are. Hey all~ I was once a writer on this list, but for quite sometime I have been a quiet reader. I now will break the silence to share a wonderful BFF moment with other "true" fans. (any fan of BFF is a true fan!!!) On Monday, I like many of you, headed down to my local record store (Wherehouse for me), to wait in line to purchase the newest installment of love from BFF. As I walked in the door, I wasn't feelin' particularly good. This exam week is the purest week from hell I have experienced in my 21 years on this planet, so even the knowledge that I would soon hold in my hands the one thing I have sought for over 6 months didn't brighten my spirits. I know you say, "For shame! You must let the love of a new BFF CD penetrate even your darkest mood!" but alas I could not. On the counter as I walked in I saw a contest write up to receive the new BFF CD, a poster, a mobile, and a promo of the video they released. I signed my name on an entry form and dropped it in, still intent on making the CD purchase. The minutes to 12 began to get fewer and fewer. At about 11:57 one of the employees took the contest jar off the counter and held it up to yet another employee to pull a name out. I stared at the jar. For some reason I knew, I knew it was my time, I would for once in my life win something I really wanted. He pulled the name and then read it aloud, "Amanda McClintock." My jaw dropped, "You're kidding!" I exclaimed. "Nope." said the employee. "Are you serious," I remarked. "Yes," said the employee. Then he walked away to write the name down somewhere. I guess my questioning hadn't tipped him off, "I'm Amanda McClintock!" I blurted out. He then asked for ID and before I could take a breath a bag filled with the above mentioned goodies were now in my hand. All in all a whirlwind of a night. I now have the $$ that I would have spent on the video and CD to pay my phone bill (which is way over due). I just thought that you, the members of the RF, would understand this evening, and my feelings! I hope that all of you one day get your just rewards for being the most insanely sincere BFF fans! ~Amanda "Are you serious?"
