It's really cute, if you look for the little nuances in there. I've always loved the BOWCCL video. It's really crappy in so many ways, and yet also really cool. and Darren doesnt look stoned in it. this is very important. there's a look Darren gives Ben, like' you try so hard, but...' okay I'm reading far too much into this, so I'll stop now. just read so many rf's in one sitting it's not funny. courtney. i agree with you on the matrix. first time I've come out of a cinema discussing derrida's philosophies, notions of framing and quoting sf writers with similar ideas. and jumping up and down and the same time going: whoa! very excting. esoteric question for the day: what is derrida's first name? on the whole baz luhrman: everybodies free to wear sunscreeeaaam thang, a) that's not baz, that's just some guy. soem aussie guy who can do a cool voice. b) very sick of it, I was, two years ago c) now that you've heard the original you REALLY need someone to send you John Safran's piss-take: 'not the sunscreen song' which contains the immortal lines: 'live in LA once, live in new york city once. never live in adelaide: it's a hole.' hee hee hee! I find that amusing considering ben's new home sigh I envy all those in the first wave of the tour who get to hear bff playing their new songs live for the first few times, when it's all new adn exciting and shiny sigh >I'd like to thank my mother, Blythe Danner. clever miss C. apparently that speech of guu-win-eth's was just another example of her acting ability. total put on. I hope so. coz it makes it even easier to despise her. cate should have won!!! yes I think i may have said all that i need to. finally. ;) love ya all taves ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 04:03:09 -0400 From: "Leigh 13" Subject: everything's grand in NYC (long) As of tonight, it was officially ONE WEEK until the first BFF show on the US tour! Let's begin the countdown! In the meantime, I went to see Fountains of Wayne last night and tonight. Last night's show had a lot of problems, mostly stemming from the fact that Chris Collingwood lost his voice and most of the vocal duties were delegated to Adam Schesinger. Adam proceeded to forget most of the words, so it turned into a pretty laid-back show where the crowd helped out with a lot of the vocals. They actually ended up rescheduling tonight--and of course I didn't find out until I got to the Bowery Ballroom. My brother and I met up with Rey there, and we decided to stick around and see Ben Lee since we already made the trip. He put on a great set as always but there was one guaranteed best part of the show: If you haven't seen him live before, you should know that Ben Lee always does a quiet, unamplified part of his set. He steps up to the front of the stage with his acoustic guitar unplugged and sings without the microphone. It works very well in small venues when everyone remains quiet, but it's a bit tougher to pull off in a bigger place like the Bowery Ballroom. So, Ben was up at the front of the stage, doing his thing, and the place was near quiet. All you could hear was the bartender clinking glasses, when out of nowhere, this guy said REALLY LOUDLY, "So, what do you think of those Gap khakis?" I don't know why exactly it was so funny, but we nearly choked with laughter. I guess it was one of those "you had to be there" moments, but the way that guy's voice just pierced the silence was hilarious. It was so out of place and so appropriate at the same time--truly wonderful stuff. The next act was this guy Will Oldham who I found to be unimpressive. So we went to the bar downstairs, and who should be sitting right there but Clair Danes! She was talking to some guy who looked unfortunately like Shawn Mullins so I decided to step in and make my move. He wasn't digging it and tried to shoo me off, but I stood my ground and made it clear that if I was going to get shut down, it wouldn't be by him. Clair had no problem taking responsibility, and within seconds I was out of there. But I'll take it--if I'm going to get rejected by anyone, it might as well be Clair Danes! So that was that. Another crazy night out on the town. And on the way home, I stopped by my friend Brett's place and he proceeded to wow me with his piano skills once again. For the first time I heard Narcolepsy, Magic, Don't Change Your Plans, and Army live!! Of course it wasn't Ben playing, but it's a start... See y'all on the tour! - - Leigh 13 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 23:43:24 -0500 From: Jessica Brandt Subject: BFF video for trade Hey, i just got my videos back from CEC (remember when they asked for BFF videos from fans?) and without a note...you know, no "thank you" and no "this is what we're doing with the videos..." etc, but oh well.
