Such is the decree of Bacchus, my second favorite deity. Anyway, I'm just back from camping. One of my friends broke his arm so the trip got cut short. Except for a three hour nap, I've been up since Midnight. Coffee is mother. Coffee is father. ;) Anyway, I got my Sinforosa CD on Friday and finally got a chance to listen to it... well, this morning. Goddamn! I also must give mad props to Brother Markus, even though his Kung Fu is still Mad Wack, compared to mine. :P And is it just me, or does the CD have an overall Perky Goth feel to it? Could just be I hang around too many of them, but I doubt it. I've thoroughly fallen in love with the vocals, though. Anyway, I have work calling, and since I know this will be the first post, I can rest easy. Laters all! Not quite as AWOL as the FL, but I thought y'all might have been missin' me anyway! OK, according to Spec, one a y'all posted something about makin' copies of Deadly Faerie Tales & I missed it. Had I not missed it, I woulda politely told ya ta cut it tha feck out. I remember posting on the MA (does anyone remember the MA?!) that bootlegging is akin ta stealing from yer fav-o-rite bands, and I feel even more strongly about it when it's being done to my very own little musical ensemble. I did not hear it on the radio, think it was the cool thing, etc, etc... I like what I like. I too am digging on the new Blur. I'm counting down until the show thursday night. I'm really interested to see how the new material comes off... though I can't imagine "Tender" will be as good without the gospel choir. I was going to go see Meeting People Is Easy (the Radiohead documentary) this past weekend, because it was screening at midnight for two nights at the Sunset 5. But alas, when we got there at 7:30 on saturday, it was already sold out. That irked me a lot, because I was really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. Drat. We went to see the Mod Squad yesterday and it was SO boring. It looked really cool -- very grainy and 70's exploitation-ish, but it made 94 minutes seem like 3 hours. and Claire Danes can't seem to act her way out of a paper bag. I have to tell you, VH1's Behind The Music is so damn addictive. I watched the R.E.M. one yesterday, then the Iggy Pop one, part of the Blondie one and I even stuck around for the Vanilla Ice one. It's like a tractor beam. and speaking of Vanilla Ice, someone wrote in to Entertainment Weekly (i think? one of the scores of magazines on my coffee table anyway) with a rather insightful observation that Eminem was merely this year's answer to Vanilla Ice. I remember the first time i saw the godawful video for My Name Is. I was aghast and decidedly turned off by it. Rufus is coming to my town with Ben Lee and Martha Wainwright supporting!!!!!!! yippee! I watched Futurama last night, but I really think it could have been better. But I suppose most pilot episodes *are* pretty weak. I just expect so much from Matt Groening & co. Did anyone watch It's Like, You Know... on wednesday? I was really amused. If only because the conversation they all had about Elliot Gould driving a Honda is SO me and my friends. I also loved that every single person was carrying a water bottle and they were all different brands. funny funny stuff. but maybe it's just because i live here. My copy of TUBORM isn't here yet. Well, I apparently lurked too long, because I somehow fell off the list before getting around to posting. I'm back on now, and I'm going to post at least once in hopes of keeping my subscription from lapsing. I also have a tale of scary life coincidences involving Ben Folds Five album releases. In October 1995, I saw BFF for the first time as the opening act for Heather Nova. When they first got on stage, all I could see was Robert and thought "what cheap grunge band is this"; then they started playing, I got to where I could see the piano, and I was converted into a raving fan within minutes. A few days later I picked up the last copy of the original BFF album in the Seattle Tower Records. A few days after that I broke my leg. Around the time _Whatever and Ever Amen_ came out in March 1997, I was having a hell week at work. Not quite as bad as a broken leg but still pretty annoying. This was also when I first began to wonder about the "new BFF album -> stress" thing. Then recently I managed to hear "Army", which has me very excited to hear the rest of the new album. Last week I broke my other leg. The only flaw in this series of coincidences is that I don't remember anything particularly bad happening around the time _Naked Baby Photos_ came out. It's probably just as well that BFF takes the time they do between album releases. I'm not sure I could handle any more stress. I only hope the new album is good enough to at least partly make up for having a broken leg. "Army" is at least a promising sign. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Mar 1999 18:43:56 -0600 From: "Anoop Ranganath" Subject: opium on ginger... Ginger's become quite the topic of conversation on Opium. Apparently George crossposted some posts from here to Opium. Here's the rundown: <> ok I want to hear the opium side of this, I have talked to some of you and you said that it had never happened. but anyways what can i say for this post than 1. the drummer of Sebadoh was on smack so that was the reason the fucked up. and 2. I wonder if evan bivins was going to jump from the back of his drumset just to get into the middle of this at the cats cradle thursday night to lose his virginity. >> k, did anybody else find this really hard to comprehend? I mean, so far I got that there is this chick (who shall remain nameless) who posted about scaring off a bunch of jump fans by creating a lesbian diversion at the cat's cradle show last week. Hmmm, well, then it started talking about evan's virginity, then about some other stuff like bands and what not. Well, i started understanding that part, but as for the first part, I"m clueless. Can someone fill me in on what we're debateing? He asked for opium input, and I'd just HATE to lose an oppurtunity to force my opinion on all of you. =) Just wondering.... >> Okay. Very simple here. See Dick jump. See Jane run. See Dick jump Jane. See Jane run to Marcy. Any questions? >>>>>> Not sure what all of this means, it's kinda chaotic. This might be one of the first true crossposts I've seen on mailing lists. Kinda scary, it's like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters, you can save the world, or blow everything up. Yes, of course. Anyways, Spring break is boring this year, have to take care of my mom, cause my dad's in india for a couple of weeks, and she's afraid of being home alone. Sheesh. What else. I am craving some new BFF. Watch "the century" tonight, or that basketball thing. I'm not too into sports. Has anyone had Donato's pizza, is it good?
