From www.flemingandjohn.com/road.html : " This Just In! Fleming & John will be doing 3 weeks of shows with Ben Folds Five, starting in mid-April. Stay tuned for more details and itinerary. " Somebody up there just wants to make me happy. This is insane!!!!! With these shows at smaller venues like Theater of Living Arts and Irving Plaza, this tour is going to be so freaking amazing!!!! To the big man upstairs, if you're listening...to make it perfect Fountains of Wayne or Built To Spill could open for them later on... Stacy- Good call about Keep It Like A Secret. The new Sleater-Kinney CD is excellent too--both are pop rock masterpieces! Keep the rock alive! - - Leigh 13 p.s. I'm still looking for a complete setlist for BFF, 8/17/96 at Ziggy's. Thanks! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Feb 1999 16:53:50 -0500 From: Barbi Subject: sorry. I had to vent. I'm having a really bad day and I don't have anyone to talk to. my boyfriend called and he's really upset about what happened to him. I wish I could talk about that but ... nope. this will be posted on the internet as an archive. I can't just post anything to this list. anyway, we got into a fight. I'm starting to have doubts about our future relationship (but this had nothing to do with the fight we got into, it was an effect of it sort of). There's a big chunk of his personallity I can't deal with: he's never prepared. that includes the money issue. I save, he spends. Also, he complains about his gpa, but how can I sympathize when he spends so much time watching every basketball game on tv?! I mean, I don't even have time to go out at all on some weekends. maybe if he PLANNED ahead and studied instead of wasting time, he'd do better on tests. everything i hate about him has to do with him being ill-prepared. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 00:01:10 -0500 From: john_oc@juno.com Subject: My turn to review. These are the discs I have been listening to lately. Built to Spill - Keep it Like a Secret Listen to everything Stacy says. She's absolutely right. Absolutely. BtS are probably my favorite band. Period. It's close up at the top, but right now, it's all Built to Spill. I've had the record for a month or two now, but I must echo her sentiments. Now that it's available to the general public, you must hear of its brilliance. Jimmy Eat World.Clarity This is an amazing record. Everyone on the list must go get it immediately. It's in the vein of There'sNothing Wrong With Love by Built to Spill, but recorded in Capitol's studios as opposed to Up's. Not, to invoke comparisons with Built To Spill, but I do think that Jimmy Eat World has put out one of the best albums of 99 already(insert Built to Spill and Ben Lee here). It's probably best characterized by emo pop, but the vocals are much better than some of the emo vocals out there. Ben Lee - Breathing Tornados Damn he gets better with every passing year. What will he be doing when he's a legal adult in our country? He's only 20 for chrissake. Sam Prekop - s/t Solo debut from the Sea and Cake frontman. Is in the same vein as the Sea and Cake sound. Maybe a little closer to lounge jazz though. Wonderful album. Track Star - Communications Break Damn, this album came out 3 years ago but I finally got my hands on it. If you missed them at NoisePop in SF, I hear it was a damn fine show. The album ends with a 33 minute track that is essentially the same 4 chords over and over again. Screw essentially, it IS the same 4 chords over and over again. It's called West Coast Weather. Get it? Clever I say. Annoying says others. The Roots - Things Fall Apart Yes, some hip-hop tastes. I'm a big fan of the hiphop out there that has that jazz flavor. Much like Roots, Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, De La Soul, and Blackalicious/Latryx. The Push Kings - Far Places The Beach Boys/Beatles pop legacy is alive on the east coast. These harvard boys invoke all the obvious comparisons to the SpinART/Ele6 pop scene. And the comparisons are accurate. Excellent band. icu - Chotte Matte a Moment! Oh, so nice. Beat oriented music from two japanese geeks and an american. Standup bass, drums, keyboards and scratching. Crazy. But so good. Okay, that's all from me today. outtamind. John "I still like to be in the dark. At least sometimes. It does me good, I think. In the dark I speak God's language and no one can hear me. Do not be angry, please. I cannot help it." - Paul Auster ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
