Quite frankly, I'd be happy just having a big ass pity party with my friends and singing songs about how love sucks. But that's just me. ;) Elizabeth- Some of the finer musical minds around here might contradict me, but I believe the song you're looking for is "Cupid" by the immortal Sam Cooke. Even if it's not by him, look him up for songs in that genre. Tina- Wow, she still exists! I thought you were just another figment of my imagination that had gotten loose. ;) Ginger- You know, you make it really difficult for me. Now I want to be Sandi AND You. ;P FL- You rock. Plain and simple. Okay, that's enough out of me. Laters all! ERIC ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Feb 1999 08:46:43 CST From: "Fearless Leader" Subject: I enjoy relying! just because. Katy. I have a *closet* addiction to Melrose Place. I told Jen last night I need to ween myself away from the show. I am not addicted in the way markus is to sniffing glue, but yet, I NEED to know what the hell is going on. Maybe it is just all the pretty faces or *OUTSTANDING* acting...I don't know, but jeesh, don't tell anyone away from this list. SOAPwise (daytime), I have been watching All my Kids for over 16-17 years now. And, I am so eagerly waiting for Ben Lee also. Ginger. I think I would pay for the energy levels you and shortcake have. But then I wouldn't have $$$ to get into the shows. Eric. I rock like Fred Flintstone. Yabba dabba doo doo. You have a pity party, dude, and I am *so* there. Only because I know you treat party goers well in the *refreshment* department. Mmmmm. Beeeer. I would reply to Markus, Anne, matthew, jordan, and spencer if they have the nougats to post to the list. I think I am truly worried about Spencer. I better head to the HGTV webpage. Someone PLEASE back me up on this. Is not Billy Squire's song, "Lonely is the Night" one of the all-time kick-ass rock and roll songs of all time. I find myself playing Markus' drum set in my car every time I hear it. If I am out-of-bounds, you can throw a flag. - -erik ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Feb 1999 11:45:31 -0500 From: "Lyons, Anne" Subject: Hey sister, go sister, soul sister, go sister... Mmm hmm Getcha getcha yaya dada Getcha getcha yaya here Mocha chocalata yaya Creole Lady Marmalade Voulez vous couchez avec moi, ce soir? Voulez vous couchez avec moi? Hey all! Sorry -- just had to infuse the Files with a little LaBelle this morning! My drive to work was brightened by listening to funk... very loudly. *grin* And you've just gotta sing Lady Marmalade at the tops of your lungs, don'tcha? What to say, what to say? Well, first off, I am completely bummed that Joe Fiennes was snubbed by the academy for his performance in Shakespeare In Love... but on the other hand... kudos to those same people for recognizing Edward Norton's powerful performance in American History X. Other than that... I'm pretty much in line with the Academy's noms. And I'm ready to back my favorites... Go Cate Blanchett! Go Edward Norton! Go SIL! Go SPR! Go go go Dame Judi Dench! = ) Matthew isn't a nut. I will take on anyone in thumbwrestling to prove that he isn't, too. And I would love to go see Elliot Smith in NYC... How about the Friday show? March 26th? Do you have tickets? Would you be willing to share? Why am I asking a lurker so many questions? = ) Tina! Carrie! Matthew! My ConBENtion roommates! Posting! Not lurking! We are blessed. It's strange to think that that was a year ago this coming weekend. Man-o-man... that was a fun time. Did I mention I would be willing to go to the E. Smith show at Irving Plaza? Anyone else want to go? ConBENtion: Ahhh yes. I vividly remember calling Markus from our hotel room latelatelate at night. I think I was attempting to watch Xena on the television, but the memories of Erik trying to play Brick on the Player Piano in the hotel lobby were interfering... so many memories, so little brainspace -- Meeting for dinner... drinking Black & Tans... Being sold to a homeless man... teaching others concert etiquette... drinking... more drinking... pogoing... waltzing... drinking some more... talking with Sandi about Sebastian Bach... meeting Ben... not meeting Darren or Robert... getting "backstage" by showing a sticker from the previous night's concert in St. Louis... just a tad bit more drinking... I never... penthouse firefighters... elbows of doom... "I said that I did NOT want the buffet... thank you VERY much." Ahhh... foggy memories due to too much alcohol. Gotta love concerts! Did I say that I would be willing to go see Elliott Smith in March? *grin* Tina: You know not to listen to Erik, right? Don't be such a stranger on the Files! Carrie: Good to hear that you are still with the bassoonist... I hear the tonguing they do to play is simply amazing! (Damn, am I a sick chickie or what?) Markus: I am still playing a LOT of Sinfo... it is in the prime space in my CRV... right under the CD console where I can stick three CDs that get a lot of play. Right now it contains your CD, my funk CD, and BNL Rock Spectacle... Erik: Ewig-Weibliche -Goethe Ginger: Damn, you guys get to WAY more shows than I do!!! I'm jealous! I have to say this first. In defense of Edward Norton. Great performance. But Jim Carrey was amazing. I was in awe of The Truman Show the first time I saw it, and I'm still in awe of it. Ed Harris is a consolation, but Billy Bob should win that category. Unreal. Probably one of the years that's going to be debated for a long time. OK. Venting aside...here are my Oscar picks. Best Picture: "Life is Beautiful". I firmly stand behind this film as being better than Saving Private Ryan. I can and will debate this viewpoint of mine. Best Actor: Tie, Tom Hanks, "Saving Private Ryan", Roberto Benigni, "Life is Beautiful". I have a soft spot in my heart for Benigni, but Hanks was equally impresive. Best Actress: Gwyneth Paltrow, "Shakespeare in Love". This is the weakest category, I think, as far as nominations go, so I'll go with her. She was worthy of accolades for this movie, but, dammit, I still feel somewhat unfulfilled. I would have nominated Bridget Fonda for A Simple Plan before several of those who got nominations here. Best Supporting Actor: Billy Bob Thornton, "A Simple Plan". I had read the book before I saw the movie, and Billy Bob was f'in brilliant. He made Jacob even more of a tragic hero than the author did. Best Supporting Actress: Lynn Redgrave, "Gods and Monsters". Why this movie didn't get a Best Picture nomination I'll never know, but I'm glad that she got rewarded for a well-done job. Best Director: Peter Weir, "The Truman Show". I have never seen a more detailed movie in my life. If you watch it again, take a look at all the little things in the world; the advertisements, the cameras, the lady who always orders Cat Fancy before Truman gets his paper. What a fucking brilliant director. That's that; I'm sure this will be endlessly debated, and I'm especially interested to see what you all think...could it be...a thread? I'm going for speed. Erik: I didnt catch his name, but it very well may have been Julio. But we didn't stick around to find out. Eric: Happy birthday. if you lived here i'd make you buy booze for me. argh, it's going to be a long 10 months. Anne: Lady Marmalade was a favourite of ours during my freshman year in college. We would always listen to it during our thrusday night drinking binges. That was also where i developed a great fondness for The Hustle. I once taught an entire party how to do it. that was a great and invigorating experience. Katy: I watch Sunset Beach on occasion too... is it me or is Antonio WAAAY too hot to be a priest? his eyes just sort of scream "defrock me!" and those wifebeaters he wears doesn't really help matters. I just hope it doesn't get canceled because of the whole ratings slump. Oscars: LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. while i liked Saving Private Ryan, i thought it was a bit hollow and cheesy. it didn't have the same heart that LIB has. plus i'm a sucker for foreign films. I have to say that i'm glad Jim Carrey didn't get nominated... i have nothing against him, but I didn't really like the Truman Show. And like Elisabeth, i'm really annoyed that Rushmore didn't get any nominations. But we must bera in mind that most Academy voters are fairly old, and may not have "got" it. But yay to Out Of Sight getting a best adapted screenplay nod. woohoo. I'm very very annoyed that The Thin Red Line got so many noms. It was just.... ugh, overly indulgent and annoying. bored me stiff. Okay, apparently i picked the perfect week to go to London/Paris for spring break. Because I get to see the Afghan Whigs in London, then when i come back to Paris, Indigo Swing & Brian Setzer are playing together and Heidi, their manager is all excited about me going to the show, and the next night the Jive Aces are playing at a private function that their manager is going to try and sneak me into. I'm so excited! It'll be just like home, but with throngs of French people who hate me just because I'm American. I wonder if the French have swing nazis or Lindy whores. should be interesting culture shock. I too am looking forawrd to the new Ben Lee. the track "Cigarettes Will Kill You" on the CMJ Certain Damage disc did me in. i should get it in the mail this week. woohoo! um.. show tonight.
