Ahh, late night phone calls to Seattle, moustachioed firemen, lobby bar pianos, rock stars, backrubs, plastic pants...I remember it as if I were actually there! OK, enough reminiscing...back to saving your Sinfo-dollars! Well, honestly, I knew it had Latin/Hispanic Origins. Hell, my Aunt is named Rosa, so every time Markus talks about his group, I think about Aunt Rosa. I am of Hispanic origin, just in case you would like to know. You can razz me with slng terms, and it won't bother me. One of my friends favorite terms is Spico, and he uses it quite often when he drinks. Yes, my back is wet. So anyway, here's some fun for all you kiddies who want to know more about the ACTUAL Sinforosa, as it is in my blood to inform you of its place in Meh-hi-ko. http://www.mexdesco.com/guias_md/gm960207.htm I am sure Markus will have an explaination about why their grouped is named after such a wonderful and beautiful region. I think it is cool. Reminds me of places in The Celestine Prophecy, a la James Redfield. Serenity now. Serenity now!! Now you are thinking about men's bras.... That's it for me. Nice to see Jordan again. Courtney was cool before she was famous, just to set the record straight. Markus has been cool since his dad saw the glimmer in his mother's eye. That's right Markus, your parents had sex. Here's a shout to Tina, lover of men in uniforms, especially firemen (a reference to the event known as conBENtion). Maybe she will come out of lurking to say hi. And here's a shout to those who were there, at that last RF event. Carrie, matthew (I love you man!), tina, jennifer, Anne (mmmmm, beer), scott, hannah, their friends with our cool buttons, ben, darren, robert. and sandi, calvin, emily. even though subway was better than the "kitchen." beat, that is. and then there was markus, who was present when a fellow rf-er called him from her (oops!) hotel room and gushed.....ah, the life of a rock-star..... .....groupie. okay, this is REALLY all. take care. until the next time we meet. - - ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Feb 1999 08:55:24 PST From: "Markus Kamp" Subject: Me Llama Marcoroso *RESENDING* (Sorry if this posts 2ce...damn free e-mail!) Actually, E, while there is a beautiful canyon region in Ol' Mehico that shares our lovely & time-honored name, Sinforosa is not named after them thar colinas (that's "hills" to us generic white folk). Our name came from the character in a novel (The Baron in the Trees) by famed Italian writer Italo Calvino. There's a passage in said book where some children chant "la Sinforosa is a bitch" & our guitarist just loved it, so TA DA! Furthermore, I read a review of Calvino's masterpiece (in the NY Times Book Review, no less!) that compared it to a "deadly fairy tale", which describes almost all of our songs as well, so I stole that for the CD title. We have since learned that there is also a phrase in some Spanish dialects, "aqui viene Sinforoso", which basically means "here comes ol' whatsisname". I think our next project might be called "Aqui Viene Sinforosa!" (literal translation--"Here Comes Sinforosa!") as a nod to the old '60s albums, like "Here Come the Beatles!", but also as a play on the Spanish phrase...mebbe we should save that for our major-label debut, eh?! Our next one might be called "Carnival of Love" instead, out of our penchant for the crappy pulp fiction of the late '40s/early '50s...& just 'cause it's almost as cool a theme as "Deadly Faerie Tales". Oops, I just gave away all our trade secrets...oh, well! If you know me, you're aware that I _constantly_ bitch about the sheer lack of concerts the Syracuse area gets each year. Well, no more. In case you didn't hear yesterday (it was a big story), the city of Rome, NY, agreed to host the upcoming ultra-commercialized 30th anniversary Woodstock show from July 23-25. Now, Rome is a little more than 20 miles from yrs. truly. Ergo, I am happy. While Woodstock may not have the most musical acts, it's a defining generational event, right? I was only 12 when the last one came about, so I could hardly go, but I fully intend on spending ~$200 US to go to this version. Which leads me to the next thing. Who wants to go along? In lieu of a ConBention (if one never materializes), a Pit meeting, or a #Tori thing, y'all are hereby invited for a huge party at my house and then Rome-stock. I'm also gonna wait and see who's playing (of course, it is 4 1/2 months away), but anyone up for the idea? ~Dan Cohen http://dan.nodata.org UIN:13907258 ps. I just realized something. This may well be my last post on the unc.edu Pit.
