No glum, son! Take a sad song and make it better ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 09:56:37 -0500 From: "Lyons, Anne" Subject: These days... Nothing lasts forever Hey all! I have had a Sinforockin' good time last night/this morning! I finally received Deadly Faerie Tales in the mail last night... and I was completely blown away. I fully intended to like the CD because a friend of mine "knows the band" *grin* But I had no idea that I would fall in love with it! Lemme 'splain... I think that the radio flier describes the sound as "dark pop" and I think that that is a good a moniker as any. The open chords and gently driving percussion are eminently memorable by themselves... but as soon as you layer Traci Nemeth's unique voice over it -- POW! DFT is completely professional, but the music (to me) has a raw quality that is reminiscent of early DMB and REM. I frankly think that Sinforosa has "college roadshow" written all over them... But back to the lead singer: her voice reminds me a bit of Natalie Merchant (I'm not sure why) and her vocal stylings definitely have a Bjorkesque quality... but as I said, the sound is completely unique. Am I gushing? I think I may be. And I haven't even digressed yet! So, here's the deal. I HIGHLY recommend this CD. I have been listening to it incessantly since last night. Right now, my favorite song is definitely "These Days..." So, if you were saving your pennies to send some moolah to Markus... don't stop now! I truly think that Sinforosa could make it big in the new millenium. And why do I think that, pray tell? Well, I certainly think that they deserve to make it (but we all know great bands who have yet to make it... right?). Here's the real deal: They are attractive, too. They've even got an N'Sync/Backstreet Boys* vibe going on where people are attractive in different ways. The guitarist and the bassist have kind of a quirky cuteness while the drummer is simply hot. *grin* But here's the kicker... the lead vocalist. She's immensly cute. Here's the conversation that I had with my husband when I showed him the CD: ANNE: Look look look! My CD came! MIKE: Oh... is that your friend in Seattle? ANNE: Yeah... [unwrapping CD]... Wow... this is so cool! I really like this cover art.. Hey... Check this out... this is Markus. MIKE: [looking at liner notes] Yeah. Hey... She's hot. I'd do her. Yes indeedy... and the last time I heard that from Mike was way back in '95 when he went to go look for CD because he heard a song get a little play on the radio. He took one look at the CD cover and bought it because the lead vocalist was "so damn cute." He told me that weekend (this was before we were married) that this band was going to be the next big thing because every guy was going to want to f*%@ the lead singer and every girl was going to want to be her. And they were and they did. The band was No Doubt, led by the intrepid Gwen Stefani... And that, my friends, is all for me. Oh yeah, one last thing... If you buy one CD this year... buy the new one from Ben Folds Five. But if you buy two CDs... buy Deadly Faerie Tales. *grin* - -Anne * Did I just make Markus's head explode by comparing Sinforosa to N'Sync? *grin* Bad, Anne, Bad! = D Nobody can love you... Not like me Not like the way I do... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Feb 1999 18:15:57 PST From: "E.M. Donnell" Subject: No glum, son! Markus-I would love to love my sister's dog, but he's a Weimareiner, thus he has given his heart to my sister. Me he treats with indifference and sometimes he sucks up when he wants a walk. Yeah, I need something else to write about, but it turns out I have another college interview Friday with a dr., and the location is the place where he works, and I think it is one of those hush hush MIT world science type deals. I have to get a visitor's pass to be in the building! I refer to it as the QT guv' interview. But after that, Im going to see Rushmore again. Then m going to try to go to a club show, so please ya'll, send thoughts on me getting in.=) ~Elisabeth "Whys a girl like you looking so glum with bongos?" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Feb 1999 00:58:03 -0500 From: "Leigh Nelson" Subject: Take a sad song and make it better Stacy's Jude quote reminded me--I'm going to see him open for Better Than Ezra at the Bowery in NYC.
