Lately I've gotten obsessed with watching Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel hoping to catch a glimpse of Steve Irwin if at all possible. I KNOW I can't be the only person who knows about this guy...he's the crocodile hunter! Usually if you see him he's hold a deathly poisonous snake in each hand while wrestling a croc that's fight a legion of scorpions and piranhas. Tell me, you have seen him, right?? So Steve Irwin is from Brisbane, Australia. I figured he has to be some sort of national hero--I mean this guy is MY hero. But Taves says she's never even heard of him. What about everyone else? My dad and I watched him on Animal Planet all the time, thinking it was sort of our hidden little secret at first. And then people at my summer job started talking about it and then the channel started running these crazy commercials about ordinary people who were obsessed with him and were hunting for him, etc... He just cracks me up. He will pick up a snake with his bare hands and be like "This little fella is the most poisonous snake in the world! If he reached over and bit me, I'd be dead!" And I love his wife Terry and their dog, and I managed to catch a show last week where they go to America and he puts his hand in a grizzly bear, and his wife shows us the cougar she raised.... Anyway, enough obsessive display of that. I am back at school now, since yesterday afternoon, so finally have full access to the list again. Miss me? ;) Went out with a couple of my friends who've decided that every day before school starts must be celebrated with a beer (or two or three...) but was too tired when we got back to make a drunken post to the Files. Am trying to decide on my courses for my last semester of college. It's hard; I don't want to miss out on anything, but I'm also a teensy bit sick of some departments (i.e. my major, English) so that rules out a lot of classes. Tell me, you have seen him, right??< Hehe, i love that guy!! I remember in one of the shows i saw he got bit by the most poisonous snake alive or something and then he acts as if it happens to him everyday, which i guess does.... but anyways, it was really funny. i guess I have a pretty sick sense of humor, but that show is hilarious! My 8th grade science teacher gave us extra credit if we did a report sort of thing on the show... she was really weird. Well, everyone should watch the show! my old boyfriend thinks i'm crazy fopr watching it. lov ya! - ---> jez ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jan 1999 00:19:38 -0500 From: "Leigh Nelson" Subject: More than Pop. Conan O'Brien was a great show tonight. It made it all the better to have a few friends with me, namely Rey and Aaron (and Aaron's mom too!) Blah blah blah blah blah. It was great great great. Eddie Walker is a cool guy. And I think Fleming McWilliams is something really special. I feel really tired... I hope I can stay up to watch the show now.... - - Leigh 13 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jan 1999 02:56:19 -0500 From: Kristin Klevering Subject: Shatner is chubby! I've been miserable all night, with the canker sores in my mouth and the fact that my best girlfriend from work didn't even show for the "happy hour" she set up (nevermind, we had a great time even without her there), and eating is just not an option and I'm so hungry I could scream! But my old lady ass stayed up long enough to see Ben Folds with William Shatner on Conan tonight! It was a very interesting performance that I'm really glad I stayed awake for (my Mom was supposed to tape it for me, but I'm never sure until I call) it. Ben and William both declared that this spot was the beginnning and end of their world tour, so I'm so glad I stayed up for it. Ben was so much in the background, and I wonder about this. We all love him, of course, but it seems like now, with Fear of Pop, he's not the media darling and Shatner is, with this new album. I didn't mind the low focus on Ben during the show, it gave me a chance to see what kinds of instruments were going into this song I'd grown to love in order to understand it better. I saw "Eddie Walker" playing drums, and it was nice to put a face with a name, but other than that, it was just a very interesting performance. I had no expectations going in, and I still don't know what to think about it now that it's over. I am pleased, though. They had a cute, short inteview with Conan after the performance, and I was so surprised to see Ben included! Shatner was this "Surprise guest" kind of thing all night (yawn), and I was pleasantly surprised to see Ben sitting next to William Shater for the ending interview. This was the most excitement I've had in a while (geezer post), so I just had to tell you all! I can't wait to hear what others think about it. I'm such a sucker for any new BFF stuff that I love any bone the media throws at me! Still a big fan of WOXY 97x fm!
