Pretty standard Bentent. (Hey FL...how many posts is this now without it for me?) ::::: Sources tell us that Ben Folds and infamously golden-throated thespian William Shatner will perform the track "In Love" (off the self-titled disc from Fold's side project Fear of Pop) on Late Night with Conan O' Brien next Friday, January 22 (we at SPINonline are staying home to catch what will undoubtedly be a piece of television history, as we can't figure out how to work the VCR). In related news, Folds' main gig, the Platinum-selling Ben Folds Five, have just recorded the follow-up to Whatever and Ever Amen out in LA. No title yet but there's a tentative May release planned. We'll keep you posted. ::::: ~Dan Cohen http://emsky.ddns.org UIN: 13907258 "Sprinkles are good..." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jan 1999 14:42:42 -0500 From: jaedonely@juno.com Subject: give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld In reply to Courtney's post, Out Of Sight got the mack daddy awards from the Boston Society Of Film Critics. Quality film. School today (relatively stupid-funny) we had a two hour delay, because we had to get our books for exams. Its still shitty out, and when we get to school, the electricity goes out. Then classes are cut short to ten minutes each. Funny. Guilty pleasures-spending 3.00 this morning to get myself (two) Godiva truffles; Marilyn Manson's I Dont Like The Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me) Is it the gospel singers in the background singing, the drugs the drugs the druu-ugs, is it the quasi funk beat? or is it the fact that Dave Navarro is on it? But I stop pondering, and I dance. Actually, I have to be careful where I stand- the radio is getting testy. ~Elisabeth ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Its been a while, hasn't it. Let me just say, I *love* the bass in philosophy. I'm listening to the 3 discs in a row. I haven't listened to any BFF cds in I'd say over 6 months. Well, good and bad news. I found a job!!!! This is good news. It is at the University of Arizona bookstore. Looks like it should be an easy job, something I might even enjoy. But its a serious pay cut. I'll be making about 3 dollars an hour less. This is bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad... you get the point. We'll see how it goes. A job is better than no job for right now. I have a lead at a job at a restaurant, so I will try there, maybe pick up a couple nights a week. *sigh* Classes are good. I'm looking at 2 easy As. Show up, and I got an A. Another class will take extrememly minimal work to get an A. Another one, I'll have to work, but an A shouldn't be a problem. And the last one, its gonna take a lot of work and studying, but I think I can pull off an A. This just might be the Semester of Stacy, folks!! =-) I am knocking on wood, naturally. I got stereo for Christmas from my beloved, and let me tell you, this thing is amazing. It is soooo wonderful. BFF sounds just beautiful on it. Alternitive Press named BFF's upcoming release as one of their most anticipated releases of next year. Yeah, BFF rocks. later gators! stacy I count your eyelashes, secretly, with every one I whisper I love you. I let you sleep. I know you're closed eye watching me, listening. The radio in my school's darkroom is similarly afflicted. Well...hi, everyone. I haven't had much to say of late...but I ran across a very cool bit o' Rufus goodness. In the latest...Newsweek, it is? I think it is. There's a great article about my favorite Wainwright (I don't know any of Loudon III's stuff anyway!), and probably yours...it's quite charming. (Surprise.) Also, while meandering through Best Buy today in a vain attempt to find Imaginaryland by Petra Haden," I saw... Magazine by Jump, Little Children. It was only ten bucks but I just couldn't buy it because I hadn't heard any of their stuff. I know the opinion of certain posters about them but I'm going to check it out a little bit before I get it. At least I know their stuff exists here...Once, back in August or something, I looked for it on a whim at the local huge-ass Tower...no luck. Surprise. They just recently got Belle and Sebastian stuff in. Can't wait to get to New York... Stacy...I hope you had as wonderful a holiday as I with your long-distance sweetie! I don't get to see mine again until May. This sucks. I'm eagerly awaiting the new album. Wasn't it about this time last year that NBP was released? Jan. 13, no? But check out his dad. It isn't as piano-y, it doesn't remind me of the turn of the century, but it is very very good in its own way. Check out his latest album called Little Ship. This guy has some of the best lyrics I've heard in a while! >Can't wait to get to New York... I can't wait to get back to new york. Remember me? I'm the short kid in the back row who sleeps during the lectures. So how've you been? Courtney- I fully agree w/you, but I really do think Mike Myers should at least get an supporting actor nomination for his role as Steve Rubell in 54. My god. I watched that movie yesterday with a bunch of theater people (we got an early dismissal from school and went to Blockbuster) and not one of us wasn't amazed at the end. I had known he was a good actor, but that...that was brilliant. Really. His speech at the end was just so well done. But dear lord, Heather Matarazzo was so annoying! I was hoping someone would kill her somehow, or she would overdose on Shane's drugs. Shudder... I managed to see "Life is Beautiful". Absolutely, Benigni for Best Actor is a must and I do think the movie has a shot at Best Picture. Saving Private Ryan is the obvious front-runner, and deservedly so, but I really enjoyed this movie more. One of the most enchanting treatments of a tough topic, and done in such a way that it's not parody. Awesome. Elisabeth- Thoughts are on their way. It's snowing here too, mixing with sleet and ice. We've had 39 inches of snow in 10 days and not once has Liverpool closed classes. Yesterday we got an early dismissal as I said, but come on. Our superintendent needs to get his head out of his ass and shut us down. We're a ghetto school. We don't learn anything as it is. {Interesting postscript...every school in the region did indeed get closed.} As far as college goes, I'll be weeping this time in 2000, since I'm a slacker. Sigh. Anyone know a good, cheap school out-of-state where the requirements aren't too high? I am thinking of the University of Virginia and also of Connecticut. I don't want to stick around here any longer than I have to. Markus- I really do like "Eddie Walker". Harmonically, I think it's BFF's best song, and the lyrics are really poignant. I dug it from the first time I heard it. Word up. Stacy- Loudon Wainwright wrote a great song entitled "I Wish I Was a Lesbian" a while back. Check it out. In other notes, I'm experimenting a little bit with an FTP server in addition to my web presence...it's always kind of interesting to see how I can soak up the bandwidth. Muhahaha. Oh yes. Which I think is funny. Can you imagine that situation though? Boston band cds that are good- Jack Drag; Dope Box. Its their debut major label cd, and its awfully melodic and filled with cute sensitive indie rock boy songs, with catchy melodies and intense studio perfectionism!
