Due to some problems @ the duplicator (among others) it looks more like the end of November (29th?). Worth the wait, though, I promise! Someone mentioned over the weekend (Katie?) about being impressed w/Wash. U. Did you mean the one in St. Louis or the real one...University of Washington...here in Seattle? (Not that the one in St. Louis is any less real, but you know what I mean!) Congrats to those Kansans I left behind for the 'Cats defeat of the Pornhuskers. It's about gol-darn time! Now if the Jayhawks could learn another sport besides hoops (is there one?), you'd really have somethin' goin'! Back to work...may the road rise to meet you! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 12:47:02 -0800 From: flames on the side of my face Subject: shagadelic, baby so it's been a long weekend. it's monday morning and i have a paper due in 3 hours and it's just NOT happening. mostly because i forgot about it until last night. but i was swamped with other things, so perhaps that's a viable excuse. but probably not. friday we went to dinner at the Stinking Rose for myu friend's birthday and then we went to see "i Still Know." what a crappy movie. not a giant surprise or anything, but i just had to comment. but wow, our audience was SO sassy. i thought that a USC vs. UCLA brawl was going to erupt during the previews. and then there was the whole "hey man, what's your problem with honnmos?" comment. but enough about the audience. let's talk about the fact that the entire movie centered around jennifer Love Hewitt's boobs. they were even billed in the credits. and my god, Brandy got BACK. sir mix-a-lot would like her a lot. so anyway saturday and sunday was Camp Hollywood, a swing camp where they teach a lot of the Hollywood style dances as seen in old movies in the 30's. i took Lindy I & II from Erik and Sylvia, who are regular teachers at the Derby and also just won the American Lindy Hop championships. so yay them. and they're good teachers. i also took a few Shag classes (not THAT kind of shag) and some styling/foot work classes. some choice moments included: "Is anyone else sore from shagging all day yesterday?" "I've done it with other guys and it feels better." "I want to see some good peckers out there!" the monica lewinsky effect. mr. elastic crotch. fire ants vs. cranky real world cast members kitchen stoves: is $6000 too much? "Wanna shag?" and then of course there was the swing nazi that looked like Steven Page. this was the guy who i danced with once at the last Indigo Swing show who totally blew me off after one dance because i have a problem with backleading and apparently i'm too used to "rock and roll dancing." prick. so the classes were exhausting. 6 hours both staurday and sunday. i've got some big bruises. one or two small ones from the odd kick and one big one where i was dropped during a Quick Stop. so OW. that's going to leave a mark. then after the lessons we got a two hour break before the dance in the evning with the Eddie Reed Big Band. can i just say that there were SO MANY good looking guys there. wow. of course almost all of tehm seemed to have brought girlfriends with them so feh to that. but last night i did dance with one guy who actually CROSSED THE ROOM to dance with me, so that was cool. he wasn't the greatest lead, but he was pretty good. i think he was probably about 28 or so... not bad looking. i'm sure i'll see him around again. that's the thing about the swing scene; it's really quite small. just how you recognize the same faces at BFF shows, the same thing happens at swing events. oh, and speaking of BFF, there was one kid wearing the Kiss My Ass shirt to the classes yesterday. but he was a punk, so nary a word was exchanged. he was a good dancer though. just had no regard for his partner. and anyway, i'm sure you're tired of hearing that crap. so 120 Minutes last night.... did it rock, or did it rock? I loved Rufus' new video...aside from Melissa Auf Der Mauer. and yay Semisonic was the guest -- so glad Dan got rid of those unfortunate sideburns. and the video for "Is it Wicked not To Care" was so deliciously yummy! how warm and fuzzy. and another yay for the "Classic" Afghan Whigs performance. and ANOTHER yay for Dave Holmes being the host last night instead of Pinhead. so um... yeah. i've gotta go call Minty Fresh. and maybe shower. and find someone to get me a foot massage. ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "I think we should go to the pantry." "Why, is that a good place to hide?" "I don't know, but I'm fucking hungry." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 16:40:29 -0700 From: Stacy Lynn Subject: at my most beautiful The new REM is simply wonderful. I bought it last tuesday. The record store is evil. luckily, I still manage to average 10 dollars per CD. This is because I am smart and use coupons and discounts and buy used, and buy from CDNow and MusicBlvd. even with the shipping, my last purchase of 5 cds from MusicBlvd cost me 9.49 per CD.
