I just want to know, who else can spend thirty bucks on making party punch, and get a whole houseful of people drunk? I am the KING! ;) Plus, we had Naked Time. I truly believe that the world would be a happier place if we all just had Naked Time once a week. ;) On top of that, I got tickets to go see Garbage on the 12th of Nov. *drool* Shirley Manson. Me and my weakness for red-headed musicians. ;) Anyway, for some actual Bentent. I lent out my Self-Titled CD to a friend of mine in hopes of furthering the COF. Well, I now have a remix of Philosophy, 'cause it skips like mad whenever I try to play that song. I'm trying hard not to kill her. ;) Anyway, I have to get back to work. Laters all! Hey guys, Im feeling a little dissastisfaction in my cd collection...any advice? Lately Ive been in an extreme male singer songwriter mood...been listening to Elliott Smith and the Dream With The Fishes soundtrack, which has Jeremy Toback and Jeremy Egnick and its really good. I dont understand why more people don't adore that movie. I know I want the Amp 2 cd, but I don't think it will give me the full aural satisfaction that I need. What about Lyle Lovett? I don't know, I would love some uncensored music rantings. I want the new Jon Spencer cd. Is Ruby Vroom a good cd? Im so pumped about Wes Anderson's new movie, Rushmore (Bill Murrays in it!) does anyone know anything about it? Saw Ani DiFranco at Northrop Auditorium about a week and a half ago. She put on an amazing show, but the seats Ticketmaster chose for me (those bastards!) were pretty shitty. I was expecting more of an acoustical/Standard show (like Living in Clip), and so I was a tish surprised by the electronic/keyboard heavy content. Needless to say, I enjoyed it. I did procure tickets to both BNL and DMB in Nov and Dec. I waited in line at a local grocery giant in the freezing cold for way too long. Although as I was shivering for warmth, waiting for a number I thought I saw a familiar face across the crowd. My mind was racing, trying to disseminate where I had encountered this person before. Then it dawned upon me, this person I had seen on TV. I was pouring through my memory when he revealed his name: Dan. I had solved the mystery and from across the crowd I said "Dan from MTV?" Dejectedly, the he looked down and mumbled "Yeah". It was the funny looking bastard from Road Rules (the season where they went to Canada for a while). He apparently didn't want to speak of the matter, and left quickly. Sorry for the above stream of boredom, I shall proceed. Watched "Much Ado About Nothing" yesterday/today. I have much less respect for Michael Keaton (although I didn't have much to begin with). He ruins the Dogberry character! Other than that, a mediocre movie, but they Kenneth Branaugh does a much better job of preserving Shakespeare's beautiful prose compared to Romeo & Juliet (which I cannot recall the director's name). Elisabeth- Ruby Vroom is indeed a good album. "Bus to Beezelbub" is one of my all time favorite SC tunes. Amp 2 is also beckoning me, mostly the Fatboy Slim ditty "The Rockafeller Skank" Happy birthday tomorrow (10-13) to Chris Carter and his alter ego Fox Mulder. - --Tommy K "Check it out now, funk soul brother" (repeat ad naseum) Fatboy Slim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1998 19:48:48 -0700 From: Stacy Lynn Subject: my CD reccomendations for today > Im feeling a little dissastisfaction in my cd collection...any >advice? Lately Ive been in an extreme male singer songwriter mood...been I always feel disatisfied with mine. Its not because the music I have sucks, but rather because there is so much more I want! However, everything I own I love. There are 3 music magizines I reccomend. Alternitive Press is really good and has great articles and a ton of reviews of stuff you may not have heard of before as well as stuff you probably do know of. CMJ New Music Monthly is also great. The bonus is you get a free CD! And the magizine only cost like 5 bucks, so its a ncie addition to your CD colelction as well as letting you hear music before buying it. The 3rd is CMJ Weekly. Its a trade magizine, lots of charts and stuff about college radio stations, but if you are into that sort of thing, its great. Subscriptions are expensive though... like 250 dollars for a year. Of course, it does come out once a week, plus you get one CD (different from the other's CD) a month. As for artists/bands... let me take a look. Rufus Wainwright is amazing. Dont' forget his dad Loudon Wainwright III. Huffamoose. Very cool band from Philly. Travis -- opened for BFF last fall/winter, so you may have heard them. From Scotland I believe. I love them. Jeff Buckley -- you probably already love him. Voice of an angel, hands of a god. Ben Lee -- A twenty year old from Australia and his accoustic Guitar. Evan And Jaron -- a duo from the midwest, he reminds me of maybe Duncan Sheik except a duo. It is really really good. Sunny Day Real Estate -- the origional EMO band. The Promise Ring -- an amazing EMO band Mineral -- the definitive EMO band. Queen -- you know them Jellyfish -- ohmygosh I love them Cake -- ohmygosh I love cake. and I love to eat it too. ;-) I could go on.... >I want the new Jon Spencer cd. Is Ruby Vroom a good cd? Ruby Vroom is outstanding. Arguably better than their second album. Although their 3rd one is incredible. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion... wow, they are so great!! So, thats what I was thinking about today in the way of music. I am convinced someday I will have the perfect CD collection. Actually, that will never happen because new music keeps coming out. my definaition of the perfect CD collection: It would contain artists on major labels as well as independant labels. Every genre of music would be represented so that there will always be music to match my mood. If I really liked an artist, I would have all of their releases. I would have plenty of old favorites as well as the best in new music. Anyway. I can go on about music. Its something I have so much passion for.
