Lets see... I tried out mIRC and checked out #benfoldsfive it was cool, y'all. mtv awards- forgot to tape them, but Our Boys didnt win, so its ok I guess. my friend Brian kicks ass. I got a tape from him today that has all kinds of good shit, including Sessions and Glastonburry! The new B&S... lucky me gets to review it. ohmyfuckinggod is all I have to say. It is soooo good, I love it sooo much. I want it I want it I want it for my very own! but alas, Stacy is poor, for she went to the bank today and saw her bank account. Think 50 dollars can last me the rest of the month? my take on the whole rf/ma thing. First of all, I don't care what you all say, I still subscribe to the ma and though most days are fairly boring stuff that was discussed back in the day, there is still some good info and interesting people that pop up every now and then. Also, here is something interesting... I have never met a single person on the rf (though I think it would be cool to!), but when I was in NY and went to Conan, I met a bunch of ma-ers, and it was great fun. They were all really nice, and a lot of fun. No silly 13 year olds either. I met Rey who is on this list now and is one of the greatest people I've ever met and one of the best things to happen to me. I also met Leigh (aka Leigh13). I still keep in touch with him at least weekly. He is very cool too. So even today, cool people can be found on the ma. =-) Things I don't like about the ma are the way people have a tendancy to go over teh same stuff over and over... but what can you expect, thats the 1st list people find out about. Now, the RF is fanntastic cuz you all are such a fun bunch, and its ok to go off topic and get to know each other. Thesse are great things about a mailing list. Now for the point of what I am saying... And take it as you will, I just thought I would let you know my opinion. I've really had quite enough of mailing-list bashing. Its going on both sides. And I just wish it would stop. Enough of attacking the other list. I am not talking to anyone in particular, just in general. I personally am offended each time people on one list of the other bash each other. And even when it isn't outright "the MA sucks" type of stuff, but for example the whole thing about comparing music to each other that was posted on the MA. I understand the point behind it, but it still bothered me. Especially since I saw the band comparing as not so much "so and so sounds like so and so" but "if you like such and such, you might enjoy such and such." and I love hearing other people's tastes in music, or what similarities they find between bands and genres, esp if we have one band in common. Anyway, thats my rant, and sorry for have bothered you. And speaking of other bands... (interesting seguay, but hey, whatever works) I got a new batch of CDs to review. One of them is the B&S. And I just don't have the words for it. Its gorgeous. Other things I got are... The new Cake single called "Never There" The new Brian Jonestown Massacre, belle academe-Shimmer, Local H Pack up the Cats, and Robert Pollard--WAved Out. The new Courtney Love is in the bin to be reviewed... I want to snatch that one up before any one else does... Actually there was tons of good stuff this week. Awesome stuff. Any other bands/CDs I should keep an eye out for? I always take sugguestions. yo, I'm out. I'm tired dudes. stacy ps I think I may have found a way to update my webpage even though my POS computer doesn't like me reading html files... Okay, just as a brief update, no, I haven't tried anything with my friend, even if I still think she's the Bona Fide Shit. One of her housemates keeps flirting with me, though (oh yeah, did I forget to mention she's living with 6 other beautiful straight girls? Another reason why I love hanging out with her. ;> ) so I'm not crying too much. I'm wondering something: does curling up in a ball on the floor of Tower Records, listening to "Air" on repeat mean I'm desperate for new BFF? Just pondering that one. ;) And I'm very pleased to see "Joygasm" being used in everyday life. Next, I want to get all of you praising Eris whenever something random happens. ;) Laters all! Hail Eris, Child of Chaos, Daughter of Discord, The Golden Worm at the Core of Every Golden Apple! (And you wonder why I love her? It's 'cause she can do a mean tango!) So I just sat here shaking with laughter with tears streaming down my face. It was a great RF... that's all I can say. Or maybe I just amuse easily... Matthew: Thank you for making my day with the NKOTB quote from Mallrats... "My grandmother always said, 'Why buy the cow...when you can get the sex for free.'" Jordan: Isn't Clerks pure genius? Now watch Mallrats and Chasing Amy and count how many references there are to other people in the View Askewinverse. One discovery that I caught the last time I watched CA was in the argument scene between Holden and Alissa after the hockey game... she admits to having sex with their "other selves" -- their characters in 'Rats (Gwen Turner and Shannen Hamilton). Hot damn... Smith is a genius. Carrie: Happy Birthday (a day late)! So now you are... what... 25? *grin* Shan: Here's some advice... never ever apologize! Well, you can apologize... but only if you agree with Ginger and don't think your question was legit... I mean, if you meant it in a "Do you think that BFF would have made the majors yet without the big hit Brick?" -- it's kind of an interesting thought. But if you take it out of context... I think you can see how it could be construed as a tad bit silly. But I really enjoyed your post... if only for the irony. So it's all good... all good. Now, pass me some more of that stuff you are hording, Spence. Sandi: Leaving so soon? Ahhhhh... nooooooo... don't do it! I've so been enjoying your posts (so much so that apparently, my grasp of grammar has gone right out the window). Strange note: I just heard someone actually say here... "Sell sell sell! You know you can do it!" For some reason, that just strikes me as wrong. It sounded too much like a cheer I did in high school. Hey... did anyone else catch Green Day giving props to BFF? Well... maybe it wasn't exactly 'props' -- not that I know what 'props' are... It happened during the post-show wrap-up on MTV (after the horrible debacle of an awards show) -- they were discussing how they thought they'd be up for Video Vanguard... and when they saw the three moonmen on the podium (I think the actual quote was "on the... whatever") they thought... "Ah... it must be going to Ben Folds Five." Which I thought was a bit odd... Do you think Green Day rocks out to BFF in their trailer? Hey... y'all have a nice weekend! I do have to say that age in no excuse for saying/posting something that is just totally wrong... And that's where I'll leave it. Courtney bothers me a lot though.. did you see the "Kurt and Courtney" documentary? very bizarre. My J,LC cd is rocking me so very much. as is my new B&S. "It could Have been a Brilliant Career" is my current favorite track. Does anyone know when Anna Waronker is releasing her solo album? I've been hearing her demos on KCRW, and goodness it makes me miss that dog. and the Haden sisters harmonies. and speaking of a Haden sister, i need the new Rentals album to come out NOW. Damon Albarn halepd out on a few tracks.... and does anyone have any opinons of Graham coxon's solo album? The way those tracks are arranged is brilliant in itself. I'm still liking "Sleep the Clock Around" and "Is It Wicked Not to Care?", though. Man, that album is priceless. Here's my thought, since everyone on this list seems to find nothing wrong with liking someone based on their musical tastes: What if the lovely Julia is a Belle and Sebastian fan? That will make her the only one I know, not counting the kid I ran into in Sound Garden that one day. I will also instantly fall in love with her on the spot. There will be no question on that subject. Wowie. Who bets that she likes Savage Garden or Take That (scccrrreeeeeaaaammmm) or something similarly icky? Seriously, though, she wore some big ol' Adidas sweatshirt and jeans, and looked reasonably alternative for me. Even though "alternative" doesn't mean anything anymore...I just use it as a gauge against all the sweater girls in my English class. Here's my pissy Best Buy story. Best Buy is opening a store in Syracuse and I want to work there. So I call up and have an interview with a computer where it asks me all these stupid questions on work ethic and morals. I waste 20 minutes of my time, giving all the answers I figure it'll want to hear (unless Best Buy condones and encourages theft, fraud, lateness, and insubordination)...and the fuckin' computer says "We're sorry, but there are applicants on our list who better match our criteria for the selected job." COME ON!!! It's RETAIL!!! You don't need any talent or experience! If people want a big-screen TV, they'll BUY a big-screen TV! I mean, yes, it helps to make them want to buy the more expensive one, but puh-leeze...what do I need to say? Of course, it's not like the interview was legit, in my eyes...I couldn't even look at the guy and give him the 150-watt smile. I'm upset. I really wanted to work there. Can you say "employee discount"? I knew you could... I managed to drop chemistry today so I could get into Performing Arts. I discovered that I can also manipulate my impressionable, young counselor as I wish. She'll get experienced and pissy soon, I'm sure. Still tripping over sophomores...they need to realize that our school's hallways are not for talking in. You walk or you get stepped on by the football players. Would you really have liked to see "Brick" win that award when a video like "SFTD" was so much better? Green Day isn't my favorite either, but "Time of your Life" wasn't exactly a typical Green Day song...it was "the ballad". I would have liked to see Radiohead win for "Karma Police" just because of fire, cars, Thom Yorke, and a cool ending. Julia update: Monday morning, first period.
