I'm working on a nice new visual discography for the band, and am curious about any bootleg or CDR CDs y'all might have. If you could e-mail me any information on them, I would be most grateful. Also, if you have access to a scanner, a cover / back / CD scan would be appreciated, as this IS a visual discography. I am also missing the Kate promo (XPCD2164) and the early Philosophy promo CD. If anyone has them and has access to a scanner, please contact me. I want this to be as complete as possible. Thanks! Scott PS-- New FAQ next week (hopefully)! - --- Scott A. Me and my friend woke up early to get standby tix. yadda yadda... later that afternoon, we met up with a bunch of people from the MA who were meeting at tgifridays. They were all soooo nice... no stupid 13 year old girls... Just people my age just above it... they were all super super nice, and we had a lot of fun. Then it was time to get in line for the show. Everyone made it in except me and my friend. So, I am sad, but it is ok. We met up with them afterwards. Also, Leigh13 on the MA tapped me on the shoulder asking me if I was on the MA (which I thought was so nice of him) and since I was, we started talking and all. He was really nice too. So, we all watied for the boys to come out. Finally, Robert and Darren came out. It was sooo odd Leigh and I kept saying we had never seen them like that before. Robert just avoided everyone. He was always the nicest to me before. He didn't stop for jack or shit. Dareen stopped for half a sec to get a few pics, and sign like 2 things. Then he booked it too. He was really shy and didn't look at anyone. Ben didn't come out yet. So, I just alked to these new friends of mine. I met the guy who won the FANATIC thing. He was really nice and all... he said it was so hard to interview them... smart ass comments and all. He said after the interview they were cool though. I dunno, I forget his name, maybe he is oin the Files... in that case he can tell you about it. But he was nice. Um, and I met some other people too... they were all nice. Finally Ben came out. 1st off, he was mobbed by a bunch of fucking 13 year old girsl. argh. screams and al. yuck yuck yuck. After they got out of the way, we all talked to him and had pics and all... now, he was nice and gracious and all... but still Leigh and I kept saying he was still different. Before, I had always had a normal conversation with him, but he didn't seem to want one this time... he was ... I dunno how to explain it. At least I got to see him again. and I got a pic of him this time. afterwards, a bunch of us all went out to dinner. Let me tell you, these MA people that I met were just incredible... and so I dunno about the rest of you, but I'll stay on the MA just because they are some really great people there... I'll be willing to put up with the bull shit from other 13 year olds... Another short note-- Anyone who I was sending tapes (etc) to, can you please send me an e-mail telling me what I was sending and your address, again? I dubbed a bunch of tapes which are sitting around, but I lost of all of e-mail saying who I was sending this stuff to. Thanks! Scott PS-- I'll be making my Scotttape soon for those of y'all who are trading mix tapes... feel free to send me your address if you want of those, as well. :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 15:08:10 EDT From: FieryLox@aol.com Subject: Re: The Rockford Files V1 #185 In a message dated 98-07-16 03:26:23 EDT, Erik wrote: << He is like, "why are you their #1 fan?" With like a little flip in mid-jump, too. Hi Filers! Hannah, funny stuff..I was thinking about the Weinburg thing today and about cracked up while I was at work.. :) Jess, yes Ben is balding but I still think he's cute. :) Darren looked tired, I agree.. and Roberts outfit was really cool... Its awesome that he wanted to stand out like that... Ben looked like he just woke up, with the bed hair and wrinkled shirt..I think he needed a pocket protector though.. :) I loved the glasses! Esp. since I wear glasses, It made me feel like he didn't really care what he looked like... Ben was just going to kick ass and did it with enthusiasm... I got an e-mail from FANatic.. probably won't make it though.. seems that someone will get a better break than I ever could... Erik probably deserves it more than I do.. seems how he's done so much, with the mailing list and all.. *sigh* :( I'm depressed about that fact that I may never get to meet them period... Or see them.. because I live in this small town.. but that doesn't keep me from loving the guys.. they're awesome! Favorite band of mine I'd say, in tie with The Cult... My mom's listening to the Squirrel Nut Zippers, another pretty cool band.. they were fun in concert.. :) Boys, come to the Madison Theatre in Peoria, IL.. PLEASE! I'm begging here, otherwise..I'll never get to see you and I'll feel like something's missing... I'm used to disappointment by now though.. I just got Ben Folds on Loveline on audio from Sarah, one of my BFF trading buddies.. :) Its awesome.. :) Pretty cool stuff.. I love the BFF bootleg I got from Co-op Records.. "There's Spring of Myself" is awesome.. :) Esp. "Video Killed the Radio Star".... If I do ever meet them, I'll have them autograph it.. its got this hilarious pick of Darren on the back and on the front Ben in a Mr. Rogers type sweater... Hi everyone. So FANatic is taped. Katie is pissed. The flames will come. The guy got surprised early Thursday morning, had to do a terrible interview in which he knew the answers to all the questions, and then he got to go to Conan. And he had the best day of his life. I got flamed on the MA. Never thought it would happen, but it did. But luckily Ginger has my back :) I really REALLY liked Ben's glasses. Jess, I asked the guy who got on Fanatic how my Darren was doing (of course that was my FIRST question Kathy! HOW DID DARREN LOOK?) and he said, "Incredibly, incredibly skinny." My poor guy. That's what not eating meat might do to ya. I'm still in post-sideburn burnout. I don't NEED THIS RIGHT NOW! But I was VERY impressed by Conan. I was smiling the entire time. The screaming at the beginning monologue (if you can call it that) was VERY GREAT!!!! And the fact that I knew it was my great BFF friends was the Best! I'm very proud of all of you. I counted twice that Conan said "The Ben Folds Five" I'm such and "anal retentive bastard." humph And I noticed how CONFIDENT they have become in just a year. Remember Letterman? They were SO shy. But this ruled. Robert was the best by far. What a guy. I loved his outfit...hehehehe. Picked up the new double live album(for a overpriced single disc price of 14.99plus tax)and it absolutely rawks. It is the best album I have bought, in the sense of dominating my play list since the latest Elliot Smith album(new one sooon!!!!!). Disc One is especially beautiful. On both lists I am widely reckognized as the crazy indie wunderkind...but my soft spot for Adam Duritz's voice causes me to lurch back into the mainstream! Put down the YoLaTengo, put away the Pavement...hide the vinyl...and stop playing the Sonic Youth for two minutes John!!! This is what I said to myself...and I popped in the Counting Crows...except for some Heatmiser vinyl and the new Looper 7" I haven't listened to anything else the past 3 days!!! Keep in mind that disc one is only alternate versions of songs!!! The most exciting tracks are Mr. Jones, Have You Seen Me Lately, Angels of the Silences and the hidden track at the end which I believe is a jazz version of the rare b-side These Days. "Mr. Jones!!!" you exclaim! Yes, Mr. Jones. I hate the song...but not this version...it is absolutely beautiful...combine the beauty of Raining in Baltimore(which rules on disc 2) with the aura surrounding Walkaways(also on disc 2) and you get the most kick butt Counting Crows song ever. It is a totally different and new song. Beautiful accordian line...phat bass line from Matt Malley!!! All new!!! Buy it!!! Word. Wonder how long my venture into the mainstream will last...any takers? I am always itching for more Belle and Sebastian...some Beatnik Filmstars anyone? Karl Hendricks Trio? Richard Davies? Sea and Cake? I might not be able to resist!!!! - --end transmission johnbot "So you wanna be a rock and roll star, well listen now to what I say, just get an electric guitar and take some time to learn how to play...just learn how to play." --Adam Duritz, from "Mr. Jones" "As for me, I could leave the world with nothing but today in my eyes." --Truman Capote "A light bulb went off in my head.
