Sorry so quiet of late, kiddie-pies, but the 'rents were in town over the weekend, so I've been spending the last month or so sprucing up the Markus Lair. Coat o' paint here, IKEA chair there, & VOILA, it's as if I had taste & $!!! Then we spent the weekend taking in the sites (& having brunch next to Dave, formerly of POTUSA). Pissy weather, but a lovely time was had by all nonetheless--especially Friday night, when I grilled 6 Copper River Sockeye salmon filets that were caught that morning...mmm...delish! So, what's the damn deal about the 4th o' July special on ABC? Musta missed all the hype. Anyone who wants to bestow a copy 'pon their buddy 'kus is more than welcome! Hope the 4th was full of explosions for all of you--except you limeys--& have a good'n! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Jul 1998 14:40:12 -0500 From: Erik Lyons Subject: Huh, where'd we go...? yo yo yo....back in the groove. Here's my story, and goddamn it, I am sticking to it (or it is still sticking to me) Thursday was a day of SUN. BOAT. BEER. and yes, let's say a big hello to Pearl Jam who time out to play a concert in St. Louis. Went with a buddy on a radio sponsored bus trip (free of charge...as you know, FL is "in" with EVERYBODY)...needless to say, I have battle scars (liquor induced bruises, cuts, mental scars)...you name it. While I have E-mail at home, I didn't have even enough mental power to think about reading any messages. I think I was sleeping. I hope everyone had a nice holiday. But, if you don't mind scrolling for a minute, let me put my $.02 in about the "holiday". It is stupid. Or rather, it has become a tad too commercial. The premise behind Independence Day? I hope to hell everyone on this list knows. It made me sick watching Regis interview kids and ask them when Independence Day was (didn't know), what it meant (duh, one kid said independence from aliens), and to recite the pledge of allegiance (can you say butcher to pieces?). UHG. I am getting a bit tired of the perception of America. We went from "home of the free" to "home of the greedy". The 4th is getting as sick as other holidays with history (Veterans Day, Memorial Day). It is my opinion that no one should be given a day off until they UNDERSTAND the reason they are being given a paid holiday. This NOW generation seems to forget the generations before us. Maybe I am tad too sentimental, or is it because I grew up in the Midwest, or maybe it's because I have, uh, I don't know...a sense of pride. whatever. I guess I am Annebling. Or maybe it was because I watched DAVE (not letterman) last night, and for reason that movie seems to push many of the right buttons. Color me independent. I guess I am calling to arms the Fjordian militia again (a sight I am sure Matthew is glad to see!)...actually, I am not that looney. I like a nice suit as opposed to the battle-wear, and some would actually say I look kinda rico-suave in one...(minus the long, greasy hair)....but I am fashionably digressing... Kathy-rin reports Axl Rose has died. Sad. She also reports I have a warped sense of humor. What-the-hell? me? never..... I have yet to read the resolution of Anne's pillow/husband/brother love-triangle...gotta have a juicy ending. Here is my original Seinfeld-esque humor for the day. Note: this is truly my own joke. So if you think it is funny, cool. If not, then maybe I didn't make it up. What's the deal with Flamingos? I think the Flamingo is a pretty darn stupid bird. I mean, you see them, always standing on one leg, instead of two. Why stand on one leg when you have two? I know *I* would get tired standing on one leg all day. yeah, right... Well, it has been great to see you all again. I am sure Courtney will come home from swing dancing all weekend, Anne will find a computer again, Matthew will get disgusted with something and write in and complain (not that there is anything wrong with that), Spencer will run out of dope and sober up and take a shower, Eric will write more than a paragraph and actually wage war on a continent (you wanna play RISK punkboy?), Markus will dry from all the rain, Sandi will be Sandi, etc, etc.... enough. - -fl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jul 1998 17:59:40 EDT From: BlueJellow@aol.com Subject: Re: The Rockford Files V1 #176 Kathy-rin!!! Here is a gem of knowledge for ya!!! Hello you "Fjordians" or whatever! I've come to buff up the list.. I get the digest version because it's so cute, and when I wake up, I can come and see the wonderful package in my box. It's so fabulous. Next time I'm in Novi, I'll see if Wally is playing... I'll get my cousin to take me. I love Ann Arbor. I am also willing to wage a war for that tape from Johnbot. What a great collection he has....... I've never heard Rocky or Cool Whip or any b-side songs previoulsy unreleased cept the stuff on the BOWCCL single and a realaudio version of Hava Nagila (which totally rules btw). First Katy, I have to say that I too am guilty of laughing out load when ever I hear Ben chuckle on Summer B! I am happy to know others have the same affliction! :) And Kathryn, those guys are for real. I went surfing for BFF pages on the Japanese internet and found those guys! I haven't gotten an email back yet, I wish I had an address for them. I have a feeling they don't understand much english. I will try to write them again, and like I said if I get any info, I will make it Fjordian knowledge! As for any Bentent of my own, I had an Uncle Walter expierence this 4th of July. I went to visit my pal Sara on the 4th, and she had some family over. One of them being her great Uncle Frank. So I sit at one of the picnic tables feeding my face when Uncle Frank comes and sits by me and proceeds to ask me all these college/future questions. I try to keep eating, he gets the hint but instead of asking the questions he proceeds to tell me a story that literally takes 25 minutes to come to an end. When Sara finally comes around to me and saves me I find myself saying, and I quote, "Where did you go that you were gone so long?" and right after that left my lips I began to laugh histarically, scaring Sara and many others around. There was no way I could explain to these non-fans how funny it actually was, but I know you all will!!!! taker easy! Um. . .this is true, I swear to GOD. (Scott, testify.) They didn't air the ABC concert in Madison. It was like Walker: Texas Ranger or something instead. So if anybody wants to make me a copy. . .I'll send you a blank video, or 2 or 3 cassette boots, whichever you'd like. :) So, this weekend I celebrated the independence of our nation by buying CDs, of course. Actually, I was just doing price checks on scanners at Circuit City, and wandered into the CD racks. Thank god I did, because now I'm tingling with pleasure. . .namely the Dan Wilson brand of pleasure. I found Great Divide for 9 bucks, and the Pleasure ep for 8! I love those big ass places like Best Buy (where I found" If you're feeling sinister. . .") and Circuit City, 'cause they have little caches of excellent, relatively hard to find, CHEAP stuff tucked away, just waiting for you to stumble onto. :) Unfortunately, no Ben singles as of yet. Oh, and on a final (and ultimately self-serving, although I'm trying to pass it off as altruistic -- is that the right word?) note, if any recent arrivals to the RF would like an extremely high quality tape of ConBENtion (feb 15th, 1998 - Chicago) (or anybody who missed my offer the first time. . .) drop me a line and we can work out a trade. Basically, this translates to: I want new tapes 'cause CDs are too expensive, and I'm willing to make tapes again because I've forgotten what a pain it is going to the post office all the time. :) Act now, before I recognize the folly of my actions! - -Hannah _________________________________________ http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/1094/ your Ben Folds Five resource center online since 1997 _________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
