You all might be jaded by Ben Folds experience. Thank god I'm not. It was my third time seeing the boys. It was god damn incredible. The crowd was quiet and the 15 year olds were short. This made for an incredible concert environment. The opening band rocked. I did not catch their name though. The were the opener I've seen in a while. On to Ben. I really felt like my friend JR and I had a major impact on the show. During a quiet segment after Jelly JR screams "Sledge rocks." Ben heard it and repeated "Sledge does rock." It really seemed like we were the only ones in our area that appreciated every song. Once the played One Angry Dwarf the crowd finally got into the show (late in the concert). When started the intro to Dumped, JR and I rushed to the second row. Three black T-shirts went to the stage. One was JR's Blue(close enough to black) Adidas shirt that he wore into the show. At the end of the song Ben did a strip teas, took off his shirt and put on JR's shirt. Holy shit we went nuts. After that they left. Ben changed back to his other shirt(Shrug). They encored with Boxing. Towards the end of the song, it's quiet and scream Freebird. Like all of you know Ben said it is hard to play a ballad since Freebird had made it big. Ben looked towards me and grinned. Then the band started jamming and Ben went into Freebird. It was kinda hard to make out since Ben was the only one playing Skynard and Sledge And Darren were just jamming. Does Ben do this all the time or were we just very Lucky? A group *sigh of relief* to hear your post. I am sure all of us appreciate your sincerity. So, thanks and enjoy the rest of your stay here! Moving on. To answer the question about the # of Rockford Files I have seen. Yes, as a young child, I was forced to watch them with my parents. And to pass time, I kept a journal of each episode. After a couple episodes (and the introduction of Angel), I was hooked. It only took one episode of Police Story to get addicted to that one. Until Ben pens a song about that drama, I won't talk about it. Speaking of watching television as a child, how's bout's that Hogan's Heros show? eh?? Oh yeah baby, I was ALL over that show. And as I grew, I fell into a Miami Vice rut and have seen all the epsiodes AT LEAST 5 times each (thanx a lot FX for showing the show TWICE a day). BENTENT time. Went golfing on Friday (a scramble). After the tournament (and a beer a hole), as we were driving home, I was exposing my friend to many different CD's and songs I had in the car. First, Pale Divine. Then, I put a tape in to let him listen to the beginning of Barbie Doll (which I just think is too funny -- "hey Barbie, doyouwanttogoforaride?")...then, later in this mix tape masterpiece, I have Emmaline playing. He looks at me half way through the song and says, "So. This guy can't really sing, huh." I said, "well, actually, this would not be a great first song to hear Ben sing. (because, if you are honest with yourself, Emmaline does have a squeaky sound to it) But this guy, while having a good taste in music, prefers to get *jiggy* with it. Not Snoop Doggy jiggy, but you know, just *clubby* jiggy...So I put in my MTV Party To Go CD from years past, and we got *jiggy* with the like of Will Smith, and various other jiggy-masters (and of course, the song from the SNL guys who go clubbing with the guest host. God, those skits are great). Oh, and btw, we had a bet with these guys we were golfing against, and they BLATANTLY cheated to take our $$$. Oh so mad. What else is new? Everything. Ginger. Great story. You will have Jessica banging down your email for a story for the Shrubbery. Anne. I will think of a more becoming nickname for you. Sorry me and M got everyone on that kick. Can you ever forgive us? We so sorry. We love you long time. How about this one: AnneRules? I think, not bad. Real World starts tomorrow! Great. Another season to sit in front of the TV and bitch about other people's lives. I love it. I think me and Markus would have made great Real World'ers. Matthew also. Courtney, Sandi, Anne, and maybe Kathyrn. Eric, you are too pretty to be a cast member. Oh yes, and Spencer. How could I forget Spencer (except when he sells me that skunk, then I forget EVERYTHING). But wait! Isn't there always a gay person? Oh my. Who is gay amongst us? And of course, we would have to want to kick someone out of the house. Hmmm......not Sandi, because she makes friends with all the rock stars and brings them over to our *very cool* house. Not Spence, because he, well, he has *other* connections. Not Markus, because he is in a band, and aren't all band people just groovy? Not Courtney, because she needs to stick around to coordinate all our group activities....(and get WHOOPED ON in trivial pursuit...YOU WANT SOME!!) maybe Kathyrn, because we don't know her all that well...she might have piercings everywhere and purple hair and be a messenger...surely not your FL...because, well, because that would be sad...so that leaves Matthew. Nope. Not him. He is a BREWMASTER! The house must drink don't you know. So what to do, what to do.....I know. We will add Tina as an extra person in the house, but we will all be in on the conspiracy to kick her out. MTV needs ratings ya know! She will only be around for the first couple episodes. But it will all work out for her, as she will have her 15 minutes of fame and be sought out by Dennis Rodman who happened to catch the first 2 shows. She and Dennis will marry and have 10 kids. Nice. This post is too long. But I miss you all so. So I just wanted to *jump* right in. Had a totally unfathomably amazing Ben Folds experience last night in Atlanta. Went down to the ol' church-turned-concert venue. Had a couple drinks in the parking lot, went in and found spots dead center, about 10 people back from the stage. Choice viewing area. The opening band was fairly good. Glad to have them be bearable, compared to previous openers. BF5 came out, began rocking the house. The crowd was lame. Very few real fans there, the ones that were weren't loud or excited. Get your hands in the air, people. The fans got louder as the night went on. After a rousing rendition of "She don't use jelly" Ben began to tell us about the origins of the next song. Loving the musical stylings of bassist Robert Sledge, I scream, "Sledge Rocks!" A statement to be immediately repeated by Ben himself, with a slight bow of recognition from Sledge, with a sideways grin. Quite proud of myself for finding a comment the band agreed to, I continued to enjoy the show with my friends. The band rocked the stage hard. Never seeming "tired" as has been previously described by concert goers. The youngish crowd seemed tired from being up past their bed time, but got further into the groove as the show got louder and later. Overcome with excitement and enjoyment of my favorite band kicking it strong, I rushed to the front of the stage as soon as "Song for the Dumped" came on. Upon the second chorus, I pulled off my Adidas Soccer T-shirt, tied the end in a knot, and flung it at Ben when he requested, "?give me back my black T-shirt.." Not a unique idea, but one completely spontaneous and heartfelt. As the song was winding down, Ben got up from his piano, picked up a shirt, untied a knot in a shirt, then began to strip himself of his own shirt. He belly danced and grooved to his music, took off his shirt and tossed it back stage. He then? PUT ON MY T-SHIRT!! Fans around me started screaming at me, that's your shirt! I was jumping, yelling, excited. Ben wearing the shirt -I- wore into his concert. He jumped on top of a monitor, threw his piano stools at his piano, and created the big finale, all WEARING MY SHIRT. I was so proud! SO, BF5 fans, if you heard Ben say that Sledge rocks, or wondered whose stylin' Adidas Soccer T-shirt he was modeling, I am proud and humbled to inform you that that was indeed attributable to me. I am honored to have had an influence at the best show I have ever attended. Hey y'all... nice to be back in the comfortable parental fold of the Rockfjords after the harrowing and hostile group trip that was visiting the Armchair... Funny thing happened on the way to the computer a few days ago: well actually it was at the computer but I digress - got an e-mail off an old internet buddy (the very person to mail me about Helmet Heads no less, all those years ago) announcing her visit to my nations capital. I, of course being crap, was too late to reply as she had already left yet she had (foolishly perhaps) left the address of her holiday home. A quick (well 4 hours - Sheffield's further from London than I thought) motorway jaunt with friends packed in the back of my Fiesta and voila we had arrived outside the very Youth Hostel. To cut a long story down to a short post we found and surprised her... gotta tell you it was a little weird and kinda how you guys felt at the Bentition (was that what it was called? I cannae check through 161 Files to find out so I'll assume you know what I mean). I find it hard to comprehend - I mean internet communication is one thing, and a wonderful thing at that, but actually meeting someone who you don't know other than through a few messages on a computer is totally overwhelming. Not to mention the fact she was from Yanksville as well, what are the odds I gotta ask. And she was utterly gorgeous... just made me wish I had eaten that day and been able to form a coherant sentence instead of rambling in my hyper-Brit accent and looking like a, as I believe you guys say, asshole (we prefer arsehole, deeper we feel). Not much Bentent I know however there is a weak link so I feel it's justified... What happened to the multi-messages doing the rounds? We met up at Uno's Pizzaria, but we found it to be closed! We were stunned - they'd been taking me there for pizza since I was a little girl! So we found an alternate resteraunt (my favorite) and I was happy to get my Seafood Gumbo again. We then go to Border's Books and Music and browse around. My dad and I hit the music section. He likes classical, mainly baroque, so we hit his section first and he had me listen to a couple of things he liked at the listening stations. I like baroque music a lot, I just don't take the time to listen to it. Then I took him to the rock section, and make him listen to "Eddie Walker". He said it was nice (he remembers the days when I was heavy into NIN and I think it was good for him to hear that I'm not listening to death music anymore - well, at least not as much). He then said it sounded like what Bill Clinton would sound like if he sang. Hmmmmm. Kinda weird, but the man paid for my undergraduate degree, so I can't say he's all wrong! As I was leaving town to head back to home, and jamming in my car to "Dr. Pyser" (with strings - yes I bought the Teleconnected CD for that song alone), I got hit by another car! The weird thing is that my dad got rear-ended earlier in the day! Two Klevering car accidents in one day! I was in such a good mood that I decided not to call the cops and file a police report - the guy who hit me was a poor college student while I have a good job - and he gave me all the info and promised to pay for the damage. I'd been in his shoes before, so I decided to give him a break. But this obnoxious guy who saw the accident and declared himself "The Witness" kept badgering me for money! I didn't need his help, the guy who hit me was taking full responsibility for it, and since I wasn't filing a police report, who cared? Then this obnoxious guy stated that he was homeless (mind you, at work my job is to deal with homeless substance abusers), trying to pull on my heartstrings. No dice - wrong girl to deal with on that issue - I'm not an enabler! I think dealing with the obnoxious witness was worse than the whole accident! Now, every time I hear "Theme From Dr. Pyser" I'll be reminded of getting hit on the passenger side! Damn - a bad BFF memory! Sorry for the long post, I needed to vent.
