BENTENT: Been getting some inquiries about the Launch CD-ROM #14 I mentioned a few issues ago. Just to fill you all in, it costs about $10.00, and some Best Buy locations have it in stock. They just seem to file it quite cleverly. I found it in the "pop compilation" bin in the regular CD area. But its been spotted w/the CD-ROM's as well, so be creative when looking for it. She absolutely >****ADORES**** the graphic nature. Had to comment: Bret Easton Ellis, author of "Less Than Zero," wrote this book, American Psycho. Out of the countless books I have read with gratuitous violence, etc, throughout my childhood and beyond, including portions of rape, torture, blah blah blah, this is the only one that I have put down and stopped reading because I couldn't take it.* I was rather disappointed to learn that Michael Stipe decided (I don't care who decided, it just happened to be MS) that it would make a GREAT movie. I was stunned. It's coming out soon. And guess who's playing the title role? Leo. Yep. Leonardo DiCaprio. According to mother-derived info, it's supposed to be WAY toned-down from the book, so it might indeed be good. Another note: Semisonic, who I thought had abandoned me after years of faithful service, is going to be in town (KC) in 7 days. I gotta get tickets, dammit!! :-D No Bentent. I'm sorry. Snuzz, a gospel band? In the same way that Majosha put out a selection of "Five Songs About Jesus" or what? Prince was a genius. Bel Biv Devoe TOTALLY ripped "Gett Off". Their latest album came out today. It is incredible. It is very layered and deep. The average listener will not be able to appreciate the album's layered music style. It will take some critical listening. This is a low-fi but over produced recording. I was scared when I heard that they were changing styles. But this is no different than the b-sides on 1979 and tonight, tonight. Of course, compared to the shyte that occupies that list now, I'm sure my actually typing out the full name "Ben Folds Five" will already qualify me as 1 of the more intellectual armchairians. To answer spencer's question, I think that Ben just played some hard core chords I'm not sure if he did the lead or not, at that point in the show (for some odd reason) a security guard thought the right thing to do would be to kick me out, so I had to watch it from the back for the first time. I think that he did the guitar thing b/c he was having so many problems with his *shiny* piano. But, the funny thing is, is that he's been playing guitar longer that he has been playing piano, so it was said. Michigan Crowds suck though. After seeing them in about a dozen states in the past three weeks, the only crowd that was rude and obnoxious (-the festivals) was Michigan, and that goes for the last time that I saw them in this lovely state in which I reside (not for much longer, thank god). I thought that since it was an age restricted show that it would be ok. NOPE. If people only knew that *the band* had them move up the barricade from about 5' to 1' because "the crowds at our shows are really cool" maybe people would have some respect, namely the frat boys that got drenched with beer *ha ha*. I'm really excited that I got to meet Eric Patton though. OK, I got this "Suddenly 70's 2 CD set" and am feeling older than I ever have before. Every song creates this uncontrollable urge to strap on some roller skates and do the Hokey Pokey (No jokes. Please. Anne and I will find you and hit you over the head with our walkers). The Bay City Rollers. I really thought they'd last for decades. ;-) BTW, any Steely Dan fans out there? BENTENT: I found this Brick CD single that has a live version of Missing the War on it. Great recording, beautiful board and audience mix. Anybody else snagged this yet? I paid about 10 bucks for it, and it just has that, Brick, and She Don't Use Jelly. The packaging is very nice on it. I'm such a sucker. Hannah: In response to: <> I'd like to add that the MIDI sequencing program I use in the studio takes what I play and prints out the sheet music for me, so anyone who needs unpublished BFF stuff can just email me and I'll send it to ya. I think SLNIT is the only one I haven't picked off by ear so far, but all the other tunes are pretty accurate. I also have the S/T songbook for anyone interested, but it puts in the melody vocal lines, so it's not as true as to what Ben is actually playing. I can print out those as well if needed. Hey, 's what I'm here for. Eric C.: <<*yeah, right. [the Ginger Spice] playboy pics weren't even that flattering**>> It's a pretty sad state of affairs when the only thing that gets me to go out and buy an issue of Playboy is because it has 20 questions with Kilborn and a big article about South Park. I mean don't get me wrong, the pictorials got a thorough investigation. I'm not *that* stupid. But I found myself eeriely going to the Kilborn and SP stuff first. Marcus: Glad you liked that Kilborn "Stop your whining, shut you piehole" WAV file! Anyway, I NEED SOME HELP FILERS!!!! My new project is doing the music for this Gardens of Australia special for HGTV. I'm stuck for ideas. Any ideas for a musical genre? I think aboriginal influences are out of the question. Maybe I should just play Satan is My Master through the whole thing...... Oh you people just crack me the hell up! I loved seeing the mass infiltration of the MA today. That's the most I've paid attention to in in months! I haven't posted all that much lately, and most of you probably don't even remember that I did, but yeah...anyway. I went on a big CD binge today, and I'd like to enthusiastically reccommend Rufus Wainright's debut CD (which is Self Titled, btw) to all my wonderful Fjordians. Rufus is the son of Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle and he is fab. He plays a mean piano....in a sort of operatic, cabaret/Gershwin manner. If'n y'all don't believe me and want a listen first, go to liveconcerts.com and check out his Morning Becomes Eclectic appearance on KCRW (the first one is better than the second, AND it's longer). I also *finally* got a CD copy of Belle and Sebastian's Lazy Line Painter Jane EP. I do so love Monica Queen's voice. Does anyone know much about her band Felt? Oh yeah, and I got Sean Lennon's "Into the Sun" and Dimitri From Paris' "Sacrebleu." I have yet to listen to the former, but highly reccommend the latter. Dammit, my pager is lost in my room and it keeps going off (on vibrate) and I repeatedly hear the faint humming sound, yet i can't find it to save my life. Ah well. On that note, i leave you to go in search of it. ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "Look, we're in....Delaware." P.S. Scott, I have been a lazy ass and will get a tape out to you very very soon, i promise!
