I actually have a Ben related question! It's just like we're on the MA (=maintaining absence) :) I'm undertaking the daunting task of posting complete lyrics on my page, including the ultimate pain in the ass -- transcribing Fanny Packs. argh! I actually did it to the best of my abilities, but I'm wondering if anybody knows for sure: is it Ernie or Bernie at the Point in Atlanta? My quest for correctness would be much aided by all of you, I'm sure. THANKS! oh, and in case any of you 80's freaks care, I am home from my first Violent Femmes concert! I was right up in by the barrier, in as close to a mosh pit as I ever hope to come. They did a Sinatra tribute. Gordon Gano singing "I did it. . .MY WAY. . " was a trip. When they did Add it Up & Blister in the Sun (and basically anything from the first album) everyone went ape shit and swapped sweat. Now I know what it feels like to be a sextuplet. . .in the womb. Like the hellraiser I am, I wore my Kiss My Ass BFF tee, and got shit for it. Some dude kept miming kissing my ass all the way down the sidewalk to the show, and the **extremely** drunk 15 year old glitter waifs and their new hippie chick friends (WAIT WAIT WAIT! I only mention their age because the show was part of Spring Jam on my campus, so I had this irrational defensive reaction to them for invading with their annoyingness. . .) kept hugging my neck and kissing my back during the encore. I know this might sound really damn appealing to many of you, but I was trying to watch the show and not get crushed, so I reprimanded them pretty sternly and forcefully. I don't think Sandi, Steve and Scott saw my asskicker side in Chicago, since Ben people are NICE people. Let's hope I never have to unleash the fury at a BFF show. . .(and I'm thinking of next weekend in Sommerset, BTW, with all the tough guy leftovers from the first day of the fest.) oh, how was the webcast? I missed it, I was mesmerized by Richard Simmons on Letterman, and forgot like an idiot. :P ah well, c'est la vie! - ------------------------------------------ Hannah Kuhlmann - kuhl0025@tc.umn.edu **FLASHY BEN FOLDS FIVE WEBSITE** AT http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/1094/ - ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 1998 19:14:41 -0400 (EDT) From: Ginger Nance Subject: don't mess with texas Hi guys and gals! Brace yourself, this is going to be a long post, bear with me please! First things first: the hottie. Carrie, thanks for the well wishes but I'm stilling working on making him mine--I'm sure they'll help, though! Markus--hottie is your word? My friends and I have been using it for years, most notably in the "Javy is a jottie" (pronounced hottie...spanish..ah, no one else got it either) sign my friend and I made as a joke for a Braves game. But if you want the royalties...uh, I'll send you a check. Yeah, that's it. :) Okay, on to Texas. I'll basically provide a set list, it's been few days so I don't really remember any other fun details. Here: One Angry Dwarf, Underground, Selfless, Emaline (finally! took 5 shows but i heard it), Eddie Walker, Philosophy, Dr. pyser, Steven's, Fair, Evaporated, Kate, Tom and Mary, Air, Raindrops, Alice Childress, Julianne, SFTD, and the encore: Smoke (very appropriate given the weather) and BOWCCL. I saw Michael Bluejay's black t-shirts go flying, and I'm assuming that Sandi Shorter was the girl with the Polaroid and collection of Heineken cans?! I talked to Ben briefly after the show, mostly to tell him thanks for saying Emaline was for me and to ask if he'd heard that Joe Caparo's band has released a new cd. Oh yeah, and we made fun of the people at Duke for a little while, that was amusing. Once again I dragged along a friend who didn't really know BFF all that much, and has now been converted. Okay, now for some random impressions of Texas in general: why so many pickup trucks? why does everything--even highway signs--say "don't mess with texas?," we drove through Chappell Hill, TX, damn it's hot down there, and last but not least--I can't help but wonder what the parents of these 5 and 7 year olds I saw at the show thought of the Superdrag sound check, when the guy repeatedly used obscene words to test the mikes. Oh yeah, and this was the first BFF show I've ever had scalpers offer me tickets to. Fun! Well that's all for now, talk to y'all later! Ginger :) Ooooo Ginger Nance ( ) ginger_nance@unc.edu ) ( http://www.unc.edu/~gnance (o) GO HEELS!! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 1998 22:56:56 -0500 (CDT) From: LaRubia@bigfoot.com (Carrie) Subject: Sunflower Music Fest Wow. What a damn fine show. The BFF performance as the headliners of Sunflower Music Fest yesterday was fan-f*ckin'-tastic. Of the five shows I've seen them do now, I've only seen Ben more "on" at ConBENtion. They could have played longer... but apparently Tonic, who played before them, got really pissed off because THEY were SUPPOSED to be CO-headlining, and THEY had a time-limit (and NO ONE was actually LISTENING to them, they were all CROWDSURFING and kicking Carrie and her friend Julie in the FACE). Anyway, so BFF didn't get to play a hugely long time or anything, but the crowd, despite all the *ssholes who were responsible for various damages earlier, was great. Suddenly, all differences were smoothed out and people LISTENED and sang along and Ben was having a great time. He did the BIG ROCK FINISH that I love so much, though without the ConBENtion "Everybody Take Your Shirts Off" bit. So yes, it was a hugely successful show for them. Tonight's Modern Rock Live thing, however, kinda sucked. The interviewer didn't know they'd released NBP, and didn't get any of the dry humor we've all come to know and love. Some dumb*ss calls up and asks, "Who are you guys' biggest influence??" Pardon me while I barf. Ben says, "Deepak Chopra... and, uh... Def Leppard's second album." The host actually says, "Deepak Chopra? Really? That's fascinating." I giggled profusely. They played well, though I think they were mostly just screwing around with it, especially with the singles. One guy calls in saying, "Please play... uhhh... Brick." Ben says, "Well, we don't have the double bass in here... any other request?" He couldn't think of any other song. Eeeg... So yes, America is still full of idiots. Carrie's got a really major job interview Tuesday 9:15 am CST. Let's all say a little prayer around that time, OK? Thanks. :-) I miss you guys. Haven't heard much from y'all... Anybody else not been receiving RF's the past few days? Take care, Carrie ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V1 #126 *********************************
