Such a good thread I feel the need to respond, though it's almost 4am and I'm in rambling mode. So forgive me. Here goes nothing: 1. BFF, Whatever and Ever Amen. I'm limiting myself to one album per performer, so as not to cheat. :) 2. Bruce Hornsby and the Range, Scenes from the Southside 3. Billy Joel, Songs in the Attic 4. Sarah McLachlan, The Freedom Sessions 5. Indigo Girls, Nomads Indians Saints 6. Crowded House, Recurring Dream (yes, it's a greatest hits CD...I'm cheating a bit) 7. Hootie and the Blowfish, Fairweather Johnson (I'll take True Confessions for $600, Alex.) 8. Jude Cole, A View from 3rd Street 9. Toad the Wet Sprocket, fear 10. ummmm....(checks what's in player currently) Once Blue, s/t. If anyone else is familiar with this band, email me...we're a rare breed. :) This list would change right now if I started it again, but there you go...one man's attempt. I won't even TOUCH the other thread...but am I the only one whose prom dinner consisted of Shoney's french fries and a sundae *after* the prom? Take care, Jay ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 May 1998 10:15:19 EDT From: Lennonita Subject: Twenty- twenty- twenty-four hours to go...I wanna be Foldsdified! 24 hours till the pure bliss of Fivedom. Meg ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 May 1998 09:18:25 -0600 From: "Erik C. Lyons" Subject: Oh Gawd.... I missed Anne's prom thread for somereason..... FL and his one and only prom: Dateline May 1987.... erik's friends: "you have a date? you going?" erik: "nope. I hate *everyone* at my school." (side note: all erik's friends attended other schools) erik's friends and his own conscience: "you shouldn't miss your prom." erik: "maybe so." So, even if I had decided to go, I still needed a date. The FL was one of those guys who was insecure in the 80's....didn't date much, was shy around grrls, yadda, yadda.....no date and no prospects....UNTIL! One day at erik's friend's mom's hair salon (love those 'sss), there is a grrl getting a service (hair, nails, whatever) and erik's friend (Keith) is doing her nails. This grrl is cute, NICE body working (bonus points) and *she* seems to think she is going to be a model (more on that later*). Keith: "so, you find a date yet?" Me: "nope. I don't think I am going." Grrl: "really? not going to your prom?" Me: "nah. I really don't like anybody anyway, so maybe it is for the best." Keith: "You (grrl) should go with erik to the prom." Grrl: "Hmm....yeah, I could do that. You want to erik?" So the date is set. I won't miss out that memory from HS after all....Plus, I am thinking, "I could score!" Enter El Nino of Prom dates..... I go to pick her up (after slamming 2-3 beers on the way). We have reservations @ 6:30. She is NOT ready, nor will she be ready for another hour. Prissy bitch. THEN, we miss our reservation, she isn't hungry anyway, and I am getting sick from the smell of her perfume. Nice. We get to the prom and I quickly realize why I didn't want to go in the first place. While I had a nice looking date, she was so stuck on herself that we hardly spoke the entire time. In addition, I hate everyone anyway, so no fun at this event. We get pics, leave, I take her home, and I stop @ McD's for a hamburger. We didn't speak the whole way home. No goodnight, no nothing. I am home before midnight. More nice. I hated HS. - -FL It must be pointed out that I went to an all boys HS. Catholic at that. If you didn't play sports (football, baseball) then you were a geek. But even the geeks had their crowd. I feel through the cracks. I was the one who was into Duran Duran, Howard Jones, etc....dressed all spiffy (nice $.01 word) and let my hair grow longer than it should (and permed *dread*) So I was gay to everyone. That's right. Now, of course, in reality, I was NOT gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). But because I was different I was set aside. So that is why I was and still am bitter....I will not attend class reunions, on principle ALONE. But I just love how I see others from my class and they wanna be all buddy buddy ("hey Lyons!! whatz up?"). Yeah, whatever. They are still wearing the same clothes, same hair style and still listening to Zepplin (not that there is anything wrong with that either). *Now for the rest of the story....on the pristine bitch... Model?? puhleese.....she thought she was going to be the shyte. Unfortunately, breeding and environment have a lot to do with the person you are....She is from a small farm community (200-300 people) and one hot summer afternoon, she hooked up with the local cowboy stud (no money, no future) and got, yup, you guessed it....pregnant. Then, after birth, she got, yup, you guessed right again.....FAT. Good karma for erik who sees her now and *giggles*. She is confined to a life of swine (herself) and country decorations around her trailer. And not to be conceited, I ain't that bad of a catch....*NOW*.....so I feel much better....time heals old prom wounds.....
