Chance is as adorable as his father so I understand. Scott is one of the roadies for the band who likes to takes naps with Darren on stage after shows instead of helping break down (remember Milwaukee E?). I hear the little guy is quite refreshing when he goes out on the road with the band (thanks for telling me Eliz so I could share)(hope ya don't mind, am I stalking yet?). Hey Scott, what in the hell am I going to wear to Big bad Voodoo Daddy?? HELP!! There are no cool vintage stores in Springfield. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 21:06:21 EDT From: FieryLox Subject: D-elightful--SPECTACL-ular--Erik's brilliance Hello! Happy near-the-end-of-April to everyone! I felt that burning urge again the other day to post to the Files...Erik, I must say that I LOVE the fiction! Pop culture jokes just really make everything funnier--I discovered that the other day when I was trying to crack some bad literature puns. Kathy Griffin, I must say, is a sad little replica of Vicki Lewis on Newsradio--except more desparate(sp?). And this little rage against BFF is even sadder, because her little bit that was on Comedy Central about two years ago was rather funny! Sigh...the more people I look up to, the quicker they end up doing something terrible. I also wanted to mention an old post that mentioned something about Darren smiling on the Burt Bacharach special...that was SUCH a good show, by the way. I thought Burt Bacharach really seemed like a fun character. ANYWAY...(sheesh, I digress a lot) has anyone else on the list noticed Darren's unbridled glee during the actual club shows? At the last BFF concert here in Atlanta, (gosh, it's been so long, I can barely remember Robert's turtle pucker when he plays the bass with that SERIOUS intensity) Darren had the cutest little face that he made throughout the show...he kept grinning with his mouth open, especially when he had a solo or an exciting drum part! And I actually have a picture of Ben with his glasses on...I'll scan it as soon as I can get access to a scanner. They're these...actually, I think he's wearing them on the One Angry Dwarf single cover! They're black square- frames. At least those are the specs he had on October 16, 1997. Gosh, that didn't seem like so long ago until I actually typed it. My mom LOVES* Ben Folds Five, too. I have this terrible habit of, when I find new bands that I enjoy, listening to the CD over and over and over and over until I learn the words. (Speaking of that...my latest is Semisonic--what a great CD!!! Closing Time is thusfar my fave song of 1998) So my family eventually wisened up and dug BFF after at LEAST four weeks of nonstop "Underground". That worked with Barenaked Ladies, too. Say, did anyone else on the Files completely despise BNL the first time they heard them? Because the first time I heard "Shoebox", I wanted to scream. In agony. But now I love them! I have a dirty idea...anyone feel like sharing bands that they love but are too ashamed to admit it? Third Eye Blind--all my BFF-lovin' friends want to shoot me for this one. But something about Stephen Jenkins humanizing lisp and urgent little songvoice make me melt. Love 'em. Feel guilty. Any takers? Enough! Toodles! Sara "Heads."--from Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead--my English teacher just introduced my class to lovely theatre of the absurd! Ack! I love it! (I would've put in some more meaningful quote, but I can't remember any other quotes and we had to leave the books at school!) *--She really DOES love them! I just felt the need to include some sort of asterisk somewhere. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 21:15:48 EDT From: FieryLox Subject: A toenote... Semisonic--Feeling Strangely Fine Billy Joel--The Stranger the April CMJ (especially the Adam F track) Radiohead--OK Computer Third Eye Blind--Third Eye Blind Steely Dan--Aja I just LOVE rainbows! (But I'm not gay--I am, as they say, straight but not narrow--The Object Of My Affection is the story of my life!) On there Australian tour, at Recovery, there was a kid backstage...I remember when I was talking about Midday to Ben and Darren he overheard and said his opinion on it...of course, I really didn't pay much attention then..but I've always wondered. God I dunno how old he would've been...with Darren being in the same room, I dunno what town I was in.. :) - -Julie 'anti-gavin' ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 19:08:09 -0700 (PDT) From: ralph kyatsu Subject: yeah! Ok so on saturday i was driving around(*barf* driving school) and they had Rick Dees on for his countdown....so I was getting really bored and ready to try some dangerous car moves...when guess who come on!...It;s BEN!....he;s talking about brick and how much he loves disco duck(this comment got him "thrown" out of the studio)...he was for about 5 mins and told the story behind brick, it was pretty cool though....Oh yeah and I was listenign to hhis other countdown(yes this satation plays pure countdowns on Saturday mornings) and Brick was lirk the #3 song and the comment the DJ made was kinda odd....he said that Ben was unhappy with WAEA when he finished recording it and was only happy with it since brick became famous...I've never heard this before...can anyone verify? Off to tell world that he scored a job Ralph _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? One of my favorite bands on this Earth is The Bogmen. I heard them first on one of those "Turn it up - Pass it on" CDs (songs that are too good for the DJs you know to play on the radio), which I believe featured "Underground" once way back in 95... :-) Oh, those bittersweet days! Anyhow, I heard "Suddenly" a long time ago, and took far too long in buying the CD, "Life Begins at 40 Million". It's weird. Weird, as in, really really weird. It's this huge jungle-like chaotic-yet-rhythmic pulsing and hooting and beating with Bill Campion's voice, which is strong and effortlessly musical yet somehow vulnerable, streaking with abandon through the chaos to provide a mad order to it all. The lyrics are insane poetry that make little sense unless you really look into them, and then you realize all these songs have something really incredible to say. Why am I embarrassed about them then? I hardly know. I've been caught many a time at stoplights hooting and howling with Bill, or in my dorm room dancing and grunting along... I always get the "What the hell is THIS?" response. With BFF or Semisonic, I can find SOME song on an album that person will surely like. This is not possible in the case of most people in regard to The Bogmen. Most people will NEVER like them. Unfortunately, I haven't met anyone other than one chick from the MA who likes them or has even heard of them. So maybe it's not so much embarrassment as... *sniff!* loneliness. So this is my plea -- If you dig The Bogmen, or you happen to be in the CD store and take it up to the listening counter and begin to dig, lemme know. Oh, and there's a great Bogmen site at . Enjoy! Suggestively yours, Carrie "Castigate the criminals, bury the subliminal. The overflow of undertow has got us by the balls. But I don't care about negative; it sells but doesn't sacrifice, And why should we all pay the price to build these prison walls? The time of our arrivial is key to our survival, And I have not yet been bitten, and the doubter's glass is filled up. Say hello to sunshine!! Shoot anything that crawls." - The Doubter's Glass, The Bogmen ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V1 #95 ********************************
