Belated Greetings ATTENTION FJORDS... BF5 News -- Dateline 4-8-98 Shopping Bonanza Summer EP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 13 Apr 1998 09:18:25 -0400 From: Anne Lyons Subject: Here comes the sun... ...and I say -- It's alright. *groan* *stretch* *sigh* Hi all! Well, I have just about worked my way out from under the PILE of work heaped on me during the last 2 weeks. You see*... the district likes to have all basic moneys accrued before April vacation... which begins next Monday (Patriots' Day). So I got hit with a whole lot of purchase order requests for software and hardware and peripherals and everything else under the sun. And since I don't have an administrative assitant, I had to type all these P.O.'s myself. And yes, I did say "type" -- because we have carbon form purchase orders, and they don't go through the laser printer (well, they do -- but laser only prints on page one...) Do you see the irony in the Director of Technology typing up purcahse orders? I do. To top it all off... every time there is a shortened week (which last week was due to a day off in schools for Good Friday/Passover) everyone thinks that this is the perfect time to let us know about the computers/printers/scanners/disks that have been broken for a month and need to be fixed by the end of the week at the latest. Beyond that, I was teaching three classes and was a volunteer at two fairs, plus I had to write my self-evaluation by Thursday at 2 pm. Suffice it to say that I count myself lucky that I only had a mini nervous breakdown on Wednesday night from which I believe I have recovered** thankyouverymuch. So that is why I have not been able to write to any of you individually, or even to the Fjord. Don't think I didn't want to... because I did. And I will comment on anything I can remember... 1.) Whoa! Where did all the new people come from? Not that I'm complaining... I think it's great... it just seemed like all of a sudden a ton of new people started to post. 2.) Scott -- thanks for noticing that I've been gone! I haven't Evaporated yet... as I said -- I've just been a Bisy Backson for the past few weeks. 3.) Markus -- Mmmmmmmmmmmm... lingerie model. As a complete sidenote: yesterday I was chatting with my sister-in-law, who is originally from Texas, and she was talking about the emu problems there. Yes, I did just say *emu* problems. Apparently, someone thought that the public would go koo-koo for emu. Emu apparently tastes like beef, but has very little cholesterol. It weas going to be the "other red meat" but... surprise surprise! It never caught on. So now... rather than killing them, the emu-wranglers are just letting them go, and they are all over the place. But that is not the point to this... and no... I am not likening Markus's possible love affair with a lingerie model to emu wrangling. I just told this story to illustrate my obsession with the Homeresque statements. Because when my sis-in-law commented that emus were being raised as a replacement for cows... all I could say was: Mmmmmmmmmmmm... emu. Sorry to disappoint with this lame-o story. Just thought I'd share. 4.) The Red Thread: Carrie was absolutely dead-on with her analysis of the color red and its resonances... It's a color that connotes passion and anger and all those other emotions that are difficult to control. So the dreams with red themes... probably passionate or angry feelings are being subconsciously promoted. And the painting of fingernails or toenails? That is a relinquishing of control... And jello? Hmmm... I would further a guess of ambivalence: jello is neither liquid nor solid... get it? 5.) Ummmmm... Oh yeah! Bacharach... missed it. Damn. Any replays? Anyone know? Well -- that's all I have time for today. Hope all of you had a nice Easter/Passover... Take care! - -Anne * Not that you care. *** ** Of course, maybe I haven't recovered as I just posted about emus... *** Like Carrie, I enjoy footnoting too! In fact, if I ever need to write a bio for a voiceover (you know... like: "Bob is a Scorpio who enjoys red jello and macrame." I will be sure to include footnoting: "Anne is born on the cusp of Capricorn and Aquarius and in her spare time she enjoys footnoting, annealyzing dreams, Qin, and the Tao of Pooh.") ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Apr 1998 10:37:52 -0600 From: Tina Archer Subject: Belated Greetings Hi Scott (and everybody else), glad you missed me. I really miss all the old-timers too, but I am enjoying the new convertees as well. I am not as creative and funny as everyone else, so I haven't been posting for fear of sounding like an idiot. Gee, what does this post sound like?? As far as BENtent, I realized that I am going to be on vacation in Texas when the boys play in Dallas. I swear this is a coincidence and I am not stalking them (really Eliz). If anyone here is planning on going, give me a holler and let me know what else there is to do in Dallas and where is a good place to stay. Thanks in advance. Shape of a keyboard...form of a post... Got your creative juices flowing? The time has come for a contest. It will be from here on referred to as "FJOLDIAN FAN FICTION." This involves you, the maillist subscriber, to gear up your best story-that-never-happened about the band and post it to the list. There are no guidelines for the content of the fiction, except only that it involves all three members of the band and that the fiction is kept UNDER 350 words. Post it to the list for all to read. The story will be judged by a panel of your peers. I cannot reveal the panel as to avoid any panel-tampering. I can tell you that your story will be judged for its creativity, English usage, and structure, among other things. But don't think too much into all that, as we will be looking for basically great stories. There you have it! Happy writing... Oh, the prize you ask? TBA..... - -FL* *I want to footnote also! I don't shop there often because there inventory isn't too well organised and their prices aren't that great, usually. They also lean more toward the obscure and hardcore selections. Anyhow, I was looking through their used CD section under "B"(I was looking for a Black 47 disc) and came across the BFF "Summer EP"! 4 bucks!! Tracks: 1. Where's Summer B?(4:06) Album Version 2. Where's Summer B?(4:06) Edit Version("and your IT'S out on the lawn") 3. Video(4:07) 4. Alice Childress(4:25) Comes with no CD insert card inside the jewel case but the disc is a color band photo and the lyrics to Summer are printed on the inside of the clear backer. My question is: how rare is this? I bought it and don't want to part with it, but how much is it worth? Private e-mails are OK. Lyons" Subject: Summer EP This CD was a prize from Caroline (remember the contest around the release of NBP?) for answering those questions on the 5 BF5 websites. I don't know how many were print. You might want to check with Caroline at their site to see their worth. I received one also for participating in the contest. But, mine has a CD jacket in the case. Old picture of the guys...long hair and all....I don't think the CD would be worth that much unless the guys were to come upon some misfortune, Big Bopper/Jim Croce style...Sounds like a great plot for Fjold Fiction....hmmm..... ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V1 #85 ********************************
