Hello to all you lovely rockfjordians! (i just love the word fjord, how about you?) Taking refuge from the annoyingly juvenile antics that have saturated the Armchair, I have recently joined your ranks. And now I can breathe a sigh of relief at how lovely and civilized you all are. Actually I'm here mostly because Carrie (FINALLY;) sent me the sheet music to philosophy and mentioned that this is where she had been hiding herself all these months. So i just thought I'd do a "hello my name is" post just to refresh you all. So anyhoo...I'm a film student at USC, aside from BFF I dig Belle and Sebastian, Weezer, TMBG, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Morphine, Royal Crown Revue, Indigo Swing and too many more to mention. And I like Semisonic too. I even have the Great Divide. But who i really liked was Trip Shakespeare. We have a big stack of their albums at the radio station here at school. Oh yes, I have a radio show too. I am an IRC addict...unfortunately I have been sucked into the joys of the Undernet. I have had 3 BFF dreams. (anne, are you ready? all the fols seem to have an awful lot of dreams about the boys) One was just a rehash of the concert I had been to (so it was like I got to see them twice in one night!). Another one i had was where I was watching "Rent" from the wings of the stage and i was standing talking to Ben and all the music was different, it was all done by BFF instead of Jonathan Larson. And the most indepth one I had was one in which i was in downtown Portland (where I'm from), but for some reason the street i was on was also the same street behind Mann's Chinese Theatre (which is in L.A.). I had just come from seeing a movie (scream 2, i believe--even though that wasn't playing at Mann's and I saw it at century City, but anyway i digress) and I turned the corner and I ran into Rob and Darren. I said, "hey guys, wanna come to my birthday party" and they said "cool." and then we were at my apartment hanging out with all my friends and then i went to look for Ben. Suddenly I'm at Pomona College where I run into my ex-boyfriend Dave, who is also Ben (see, they're 2 people, but it's all jammed into one person) and I say "hey, come on over to my party!" But ben/Dave is already sort of drunk and is sort of curled up in the entry way of an apartment so he decided to come over in a little bit. Then i go back to my apartment and just about everyone is gone but Rob and we sit and talk for a LONG time at my dining room table and then he paints my nails. And then I wake up. I think I had another one, but I've long since forgotten it. Well I think that's enough spewing for now. Is anyone going to the show at the Palladium on May 9th? Just curious to meet you all. ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "How about a nice warm cup of 'shut the hell up!'?!" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Apr 1998 09:54:04 -0600 From: "Erik C. Lyons" Subject: NEWS from the LIST SERVER...MR. SMOE.ORG Actually, it is from a good friend of his who runs a couple list on the smoe.org server.... Apparently, the smoe.org server is getting a bit run down and is in need of new parts or new equipment altogether. So the friend, Mike Connell, has started a "fundraiser" for the server equipment. There are 44 lists on the smoe.org server, so his plea will reach *many* people. Mike will posting to the list soon, and will be soliciting your help in this venture for new stuff. Now. Seeing as we are relatively new to the server, I know that this plea from him may come as an intrusion to some. However, it isn't. If he can just get a buck or two or three from as many people as he can, it will help his cause. So, this request of his is a decision each of you need to make on an individual basis. Personally, I am going to take a couple minutes and address a letter to him and send a few dollars. Remember, this is an effort on a large scale, so any amount will help. Mike will post the information needed if you choose to help. I just wanted to let you all know ahead of time that his request is a *valid* one and not some spam mail....Rockford Files will have none of that spam crap.... Thanks for your time in this matter. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Apr 1998 11:06:20 -0400 From: Carrie Subject: Tammy A message from my father: >I'm sure you have heard by now that Tammy Wynette died last night. I know there are some starving artists here on the list, so I thought I would pass on some information.... The search for bands for HORDEfestival's second stage may still be going on. If you are in an unsigned band, drop Lynn Cingari a demo at: HORDE Festival, 1008 7th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90403. I would like to see Sinforosa play the festival with the likes of Blues Traveler and Barenaked Ladies...or what is that other band up north....Motel Art?? can't remember.... I had a dream myself. BF5 was the band playing on a ship I was on. I had this dream because Harry Chapin was in heavy rotation in the CD player in the car and I had that song about "the dance band on the titantic" in my head. So for some reason, we all jump overboard and swim to shore. We are chasing a hoodlum who stole ben's clothes (not that they are worth a whole lot, but anyway)... that's all I remember.... oh yeah, there was some kind of swamp monster that was eating anybody else who jumped in the water...but for some reason, we didn't become dinner, but I *do* remember being ***very*** scared of the monster.... Boo. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 21:46:32 From: "Hannah Kuhlmann" Subject: internet killed the radio star wow, that was like the longest, most action packed files in a long time! I'm inspired to post. And I even have Bentent! Everybody go to http://www.altvideos.com if you haven't already. They've got full length clips of the OAD, BOWCCL and Brick videos, and a little 2 minute clip of the Potty Mouth video. and it's all free, baby! (although I'm sure as I type this my e-mail address is being sold to hundreds of different organizations. . . ugh.) there's a dumb plug-in, but it's all very easy and painless. Thank me later! oh, and you can sit and watch the Paranoid Android video as long as you want, and try to figure out what the hell it's supposed to be about. So. . .which video did they show on that pop-up wannabe MTV thing? anybody (Shara) want to give a summary/highlights thing? more later -- I gotta convince my friend Danny that we need to rent Happy Gilmore this weekend. . .people with video store memberships get so high and mighty! - -Hannah - ------------------------------------------ Hannah Kuhlmann - kuhl0025@tc.umn.edu **FLASHY BEN FOLDS FIVE WEBSITE** AT http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/1094/ - ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Apr 1998 23:54:00 -0400 From: Amanda McClintock Subject: Mt. Scott Thompson This is for everyone but mainly for Sara!: I am so glad I am not the only one who dreams about making out with Scott Thompson. I actually saw him once, he was being interviewed at Fox 2 in Detroit and I was in a tour of the studio. I looked down on the news room and there he was being interviewed (this was right before brain candy came out) So I FREAKED!! No one else knew who he was, and I messed up the whole interview (It was a pre taped thing thank goodness) and after banging on the glass he looked up and waved to me. My teacher who took me about died, and well so did I for that matter! That's the closests I have ever been to Kid......
