Hullo Well, yes, that time is upon us once more where the Athiests among us cast aside our religious doubts in favour of vast amounts of chocolate, conveniantly hidden in the back garden among the shrubery ("Bring me a shrubery" as I believe the semi-late, great Monty Python boys said) by the mothers, eager to inflict some fun tradition they never liked as children yet now remember as halcyon days ("The halcyon days of your youth are awarded retroactively as you grow up" as I believe the now retired Bill Waterson said) upon their own unfortunate offspring. IE: It's Easter Time and I must leave the Files for a few weeks as I am forced to return home for the great vay-cay it's gonna be. Before I go, however, I must put out another request for items to submit to my Contributors Corner - any dreams, poems, stories, ideas, mis-heard lyrics, graphics, artwork etc. I have had two so far, and while they are of staggering quality, they do not fill the 6,000,000 bytes Geocities have given me - so send me some stuff dudes! That's all, have a fun Easter. Later alligators... Dave Ben Folds Five: Helmet Heads http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/lot/5009 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Apr 1998 04:46:52 PDT From: "Kel Lane" Subject: Don't Dream It's Over Hey now, I kinda just realised that I forgot to tell the world about what my friend and I did to Sir Geoffrey Harvey (you know - the guy that cracked it when Ben chucked the drum stool at his piano...) last Christmas holidays... Okay...firstly, the reason why I just R.E.M.embered is because I had a dream that all of you were there at the time of my Geoff 'experience'. (I bet you're *all* dying of curiosity here [not]) Anyway, back to the plot. Last christmas, I was playing in this concert-charity-television-musical event called "Carols By Candelight", where all these 'famous' (and I use that term *very* loosely) Australian people get up and sing and dance and just strut their stuff...anyway, I was in the orchestra, and our dear Geoffrey was the conductor/musical director of the whole shabang. My friend and I had already decided that we'd do something to piss him off...but we wanted to be subtle...just in case we got kicked out or something... So, we started slowly, humming OAD everywhere where he could hear...then we brought in our walkmans and pulled out the headphones so everyone could hear...Geoff was kinda like "I recognise that band.... I wonder who it is.....they're pretty good" We did that for 6 days...and on the last rehersal, I wore my BF5 tee (I wish I had the "Kiss My Arse" one...that would've kicked some serious butt). The look on Geoffs *ugly* face**...I tell ya...it was a look of total astonishment/bewilderment/embarrassment! we could tell that he kinda dug the music when we were singing it/playing it...but when he realised that it was "Ben Folds Five" he totally cracked it! HAHAHA *If you are not smiling now, I guess it was a 'location' thing...you had to be there...* Anyway, I just thought that I'd tell ya all, since I went to *so* much trouble trying to piss him off...and I tell ya - IT WORKED! ** and I use *that* term loosely, too! Oh yeah - and in my dream, you were all there, helping me piss him off - we all formed this little choir...and just sung and jumped around like idiots and had lots of fun. (not that I know what you all look like, or anything...) ~Kel ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Apr 1998 10:15:40 -0400 From: Carrie Subject: WEIRD non BFF-dream and girl next door. Alright, the dream I just woke screaming from (literally) was, I think, the oddest dream of my life. I know it's not BFF-related, but damned interesting... Hanson (yes, those three wonderfully talented boys*) was having a "buried treasure" competition in which you had to gain entry to a dorm room about 1000 miles from here, and, without anyone seeing you, remove the sign from the window, replace it with a new one, and find the treasure in the room without anyone in the neigboring rooms hearing you. Well, my roommate, two girls from down the hall, and I all tried it, but we realized we'd already given ourselves up several times and the two other girls split. Joy and I were left with no transportation. We hitched a ride back into town, where I needed to set up a bank account. We walk in, and it's a "formal bank" -- everyone's in tuxedos and expensive dresses. We go around the building, trying to find the casual bank, but we can't find it. All we find is an old, nude man with a dog. My roommate lectures on the inappropriateness of exposing one's self to a dog, and I just said, "Hey, it's obviously nothing sexual. They're both naked, ya know..." So we go back to the formal bank, and as I'm sitting in the lobby, I recognize my cute English TA among the people waiting. So, of course, I publicly humiliate him, very loudly, until he asks me out. (This is probably why I don't date more often.) So, after I set up my account, I walk home in the dark, evidently pleased with myself, when I see a little red dot of laser light appear about 10 ft. ahead of me. It won't go away. Someone brushes up against me and I scream. Out loud, in real life. Anne?? Help me. I feel lost. On a BFF-related point, I was talking to the girl next door (one of the Hanson treasure diggers) last night until about 4 am. Her dopey boyfriend just broke up with her, and her life is over. (right) She's going through the "But I can't get over him; I gave him everything!" phase. Which she did... He lost repsect for her and told her repeatedly that he didn't give a rat's barnacle about her. I said, ever-so-tactfully, "Beth, that's just like in 'The Last Polka'!" (She's one of my convertees.) "'You can't respect me 'cause I done so much for you / He said, "Well, I hate that it's come to this, but baby I was doin' fine; how do you think that I survived the other twenty-five before you?"' See, Beth? You don't deserve that!!" "I... think I understand now... I think I'll send those lyrics to Phil..." Another psychological balanced saved by Ben Folds Five. *sigh* Carrie * - facetious ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Apr 1998 10:05:23 -0500 From: "Scott A. Schneider" Subject: ickhaocon. Thanks again to Carrie for getting me seriously hooked on the new Semisonic CD- I'm listening to it right now and it just makes my day all the cheerier (despite the fact that it's a Monday and I'm back to the weekly drudge cycle of having a job)... if any of you don't have it now-- well, what're you waiting for? There's now TWO people who, quite obviously by their presence on this list you should take their musical tastes quite seriously, who are recommending this title. Go get it. And while I'm making recommendations, go rent Happy Gilmore. You know who you are. Pick up Leaving Las Vegas while you're at it. Alright, enough for obscurities there... I want to say that I love you all for posting your dreams... it makes this list one of the coolest things to read since... well, anything, quite honestly. If you ever stop posting them, I'll hate you all. Or... not. Was I rambling? All these dream postings and me not having any worth mentioning... damn. At least Anne's got her work cut out for her this past week with 'em all. Bentent (if that's all you're here for): What the hell is this MTV thing? I don't even know what the show is, but I'm already thinking it's a VH1 rip-off. MTV is nothing but teeny-bopper game shows and rap videos these days, though... so maybe it'll be a nice change. Not that VH1 is anything but fashion shows and Pop-Up Videos 4 times a day... no wonder I don't have cable. Will BFF perform on this show? Will it be an interview? What? Any guesses? (I'm thinking it sounds interview-y with a performance... but who knows?)... More Bentent: Anyone else going to either the Tinley Park or Somerset shows? Look for me! Say hi! Juice-filled love & cream-filled cupcakes, scott ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Apr 1998 12:38:37 EDT From: Sandibrady Subject: Artists Cut Scott asked what the show Artists Cut is...It's a show where they show a video and the artist describes it saying stuff like "Oh, when we shot this scene my hair was all messed up and I smelled like crap". I'm sure it will be very entertaining. I was flipping thru channels yesterday and they showed an episode (or part of one, I'm not sure) and that guy who has Bob Dylan in his video briefly (Gone Till November) was talking during that video and he said "Oh, my hair's sticking up right here, the stylist didn't do a very good job". What a dork. So I'm waiting with baited breath to see BF5 on there...if it's half as entertaining as the parts I saw yesterday, we should all be asleep before the video's over. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Apr 1998 07:40:07 -0700 From: "Kamp, Marcus S" Subject: Heard it Here 1st This hasn't been announced yet, but I'll tell all y'all 'cause I reckon you'ns is my friends (that Erik's a good boy, mm-hmm). Sinforosa will be part of a huge Seattle Pop Music Festival @ the Seattle Center (otherwise known as the Space Needle) the last weekend in August. There'll be about 40 bands, so even if you hate us (wait...that's impossible) you'll have plenty else to see. I'll post details as they're made available. Personally, I REALLY think that the Rockford Files is cool... Of course, having never seen the show, I mean this list! What a wonderful alternative it is...although I must admit, it's pretty interesting watching the (progress?) (I can't think of the right word there...) of the Armchair, 'cause I was on it from close to the beginning. But it's nice to see an upstart, a la Rockford Files. Anyway, just to sort of reveal a piece of me, right now I'm listening to REM- Automatic For The People. "Man In The Moon" is on right now, but I'm waiting for "Nightswimming". Um, I'm 18, going to University Of Georgia in the fall, and I LOVE Ben Folds Five and Barenaked Ladies. I have had 4 (I think!) BFF dreams, but my BEST famous person dream was one in which I got to hang out with the Kids In The Hall and Scott Thompson and I ended up making out while Dave Foley signed all of these autographs as the rest of the kids just lounged around in well, lounge chairs, actually! Probably the weirdest BFF dream I had was the one that kinda came true. See, I had this dream that I got to sing "Best Imitation Of Myself" (just backup) with Ben Folds Five...and I did get to sing with them, but it was "Underground". I did have this one dream about them (I'm looking for a cool analysis! :-) that they came to play a concert at my school, in the back, and everyone had to stand or sit on gravel, very uncomfortable. So they had this weird stage, with Ben's stuff low and in the front center, Darren to the back left of him, on a raised platform, and Robert highest, back right of Ben. Robert was wearing a red shirt, and so was I. So right in the middle of "Philosophy", Robert came down off of the platform and went into school...I followed him and right in front of the girls bathroom, he turned around and kissed me! Then I woke up. (Much to my dismay) Well, this seems long enough for a first post! Toodles!
