Crawling out of my hole... auburn MA... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 1 Apr 1998 08:27:12 -0500 From: Anne Lyons Subject: Princess Bride and whatnot... Damn onset of Alzheimer's... I keep forgetting what I want to write about after I start writing! Yesterday I forgot to mention that one of my all-time fave quotes is "Life is pain Highness, anyone who tells you differently is selling something." And "...have fun storming the castle!" is another good one -- along with "That word... I do not think it means what you think it means." But I digress. Although I'm not sure I can digress from meaningless drivel... theoretically I guess it's possible, but in reality... digressing from drivel is just more drivel, which means that I haven't really digressed at all, have I? But I digress. So I'm driving into work today, and happily, I hear SftD once again on FNX (who, btw, is sponsoring the BFF/Beck/DMB extravaganza -- and fyi, I am holding out hope that they all get to play full sets (or close to it, anyway) -- those are three great live acts, man. <------ gratuitous use of the interjection "man" to throw up a facade of coolness and/or hipness). Getting back to SftD... it's in pretty heavy rotation here, but is it getting play anywhere but Boston and Seattle? Or is Brick still hanging around in the Heartland? I figure it's still got to be charting somewhere, as VH1 had the Brick video at #10 this week... but then again, VH1 does tend to have songs/videos that are on their way down in their top ten. I mean... how long after it's height of popularity did they have Tubthumping at #1? Not that MTV is any better... did anyone else catch the Puff Daddy Victory premiere? Sadly enough, my husband and I caught it. We spent the entire video looking from the tv back to each other wondering what the hell was going on. I'm sorry if I am insulting anyone's worship of PD, but the song was atrocious and the video egregious. The only saving grace was Busta -- ya just gotta love Mr. Rhymes. But seriously... can anyone tell me how long you can milk a dead man's popularity, before it becomes disgusting? The world was up in arms about the use of Fred Astaire to sell vacuum cleaners, but eveyone thinks it is perfectly OK for Bad Boy Records to continue to release recordings of the Notorious B.I.G. and create videos around them. And the west coast contingent is no better -- which series of the Tupac lost recordings are we on now? How much longer will I be subjected to images of people pointing to the sky and glorifying the memory of a man killed in what looks to be gang related violence (albeit couched in a "record company rivalry" situation). Does this posturing make anyone else but me cringe? And what were Danny DeVito and Dennis Hopper thinking? Actually, what is Dennis Hopper thinking in general? His two latest projects: The PD video Victory and Meet the Deedles??? What is up with that? [We pause as Anne is physically removed from her soapbox by some burly thugs hired by our Fearless Leader.] Ummmmmmm... sorry about that. Just had three cups of coffee (two more than my norm) and my fingers were fairly flying across the keys! But seriously, all I wanted to ask was if SftD was getting any play in your areas... I believe that will be all for today... Class dismissed! - -Anne "...and my car's out back if you're ready to take that long walk... From your front door to my front seat. The door is open but the ride it ain't free. And I know you're hungry for words that I ain't spoken... But tonight we'll be free -- all the promises will be broken." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Apr 1998 09:36:16 -0600 From: "Erik C. Lyons" Subject: Crawling out of my hole... Man, has it been a depressing two weeks... BUTT! If anybody can cheer you up, it is Anne. So, I have been inspired to make a post with some substance. sftd... in the Heartland?? Are you sniffing glue again Anne? If not, you should, what a rush... um, oh... anyway... Maybe in Chicago @ Q101, but not where the corn and beans grow... My buddy @ the radio station (which, btw, still plays Skid Row, Ozzy, AC/DC) has a Sunday evening show called Crash(his air name)apolloza... he plays stuff I ask him to. He has always played Folds, but never on any day but Sunday during his show. Our *pop/top40* station has 'discovered' brick and plays the shit out of it. But I enjoy this every time I hear it, singing at the top of my lungs in the "B FOLDS 5" mobile... *I* digress... Sftd probably won't get any play here. Too much cusing... You would think we live in the bible belt... What I find quite headspinning is the recent addition of BNL's Brian Wilson into heavy rotation... a) I prefer the live version on Rock Spectacle b) I wish they would quit saying that the song *is* from RS. If it was, it would be the live version I enjoy so much... btw, BNL is on Dave tonight!! *probably singing BW no less*... did I answer your ? Anne??? After further review of all of BF5 concert dates, it appears the name of the game is s-a-c-r-i-f-i-c-e. Playing all those festivals means less time to enjoy them, BUTT, you get a chance to see other groups... mini-hordes... on your mark, get set... a go-go!! - --------- Informer...I lick your boom-boom down - --------- come baby come, baby-baby come-come you gotta give me lovin and you gotta give me some - -FL- *back in the saddle* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Apr 1998 14:45:08 -0700 From: "Will Canzoneri" Subject: auburn Say say say...
