Partial List, right??? BF5/Brian Wilson connection? Sorry Pictures... Who's the victim Hey I finally made one ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 07:37:36 -0800 From: "Kamp, Marcus S" Subject: No Seattle Show So, they're standing us up again. They've really only done 1 show here. Sure, they opened for Counting Crows a year ago & then played a spur-of-the-moment free show last summer (which I was fortunate-and cool-enough to attend), but those don't really count as full-fledged BFF shows, now do they? Well, that's OK, I guess. Just gives Sinforosa more time to get big enough to open for them. Speaking of opening acts, I just borrowed J's Robbie Fulks CD (South Mouth-the 2nd one, I believe). It's decent, but he's much better live. If you missed him on the last tour & have a chance to check him out, by all means do so. My CD choices for this brand spankin' new week ('cause I know you care:-)): Jeff Buckley-Grace Crowded House-Temple of Low Men Miles Davis-Sketches of Spain Dexter Gordon-The Other Side of Round Midnight Joe Jackson-Night Music Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass Sarah McLachlan-The Freedom Sessions Medeski Martin & Wood-Friday Afternoon in the Universe, Shack Man Michael Penn-March The Real Kansas City Marcus Roberts-Alone with Three Giants Round Midnight Shadows and Light-Ambient Music from Another Time Squirrel Nut Zippers-The Inevitable Squirrel Nut Zippers Stay Awake-Various Interpretations of Music from Disney Films Well, it's a new week, it's raining (surprise-it's Seattle!), and I'm back @ work. As the Norge would say...UFF DAH!!! Markus ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 10:55:01 -0600 From: "Erik C. Lyons" Subject: Closing Time For Markus?? Could it be? Will Markus become a the typical stereo-typed starving musician working as a waiter? I read in the paper that Boeing is laying off over 6,000 employees soon. While the concentration will be in California, I think all of us need to have a group prayer that keeps M at Boeing. Yes Markus, we know you are already starving...... So the tour dates are a coming! A few festival stops and some west coast stops are early postings. You can view the dates at the band's site, bffweb.com. BTW, a get-together in Jon Richards territory sounds inviting. While I have never really liked that queer dance Dave Matthews does when he sings and plays the gee-tar, I do like the band. So if indeed they are playing, I wouldn't mind seeing them..... Speaking of other bands, Barenaked (heheh) Ladies will be on the tube soon. David Letterman show on April 1. In piano related news, Billy Joel and Elton John will be doing a HBO special to be televised on June 20. Sounds interesting: "spontaneous and dynamic, the "Face To Face" concert is a state-of-the-art production that begins with the artists face to face, center stage, seated at their grand pianos; it includes sets by Billy Joel and his band, Elton John and his band, and ends in a spectacular finale with both artists and their bands together; each song in the two hour-plus set is a classic, and fans can expect many surprises as Elton John and Billy Joel interact for the first time on television." Don't forget that the Beck/BF5 replay on Sessions will be May 16. Has anybody else noticed the HIGHLY VISABLE ABSENCE of any Sandi Shortcake posts?? Odd. Wouldn't it be cool if Ben Folds were to "crash" the Joel/John concert. He would come out with "SOY BOMB" written across his naked chest and start jammin on the keys, slammin the bench across the keys and using his feet and arse......I bet it would FREAK those guys out.....I know I would *giggle* The weather man says warm weather arrives Thursday...... *time to dust off the golf clubs* ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 12:15:14 -0500 From: Carrie Subject: Partial List, right??? That's not ALL the tour dates, is it? Hnnnnng... (that was a low, pained whine) But... but.... but... uh... but... I *need* it! I neeeeeeed it. This will result in much pouting, you all realize. Shoot. Now I have to go to English class with this on my mind. Listening to The Cure, Parliament, and Hot Chocolate. Parliament, I know, but it's REALLY fun to dance to when your roommate's in class all day. Ha ha! Foolish music majors!! :-) <--(ex-music major) Be good, all. Just a quick note about a post I saw to the Pet Sounds digest regarding similarities between Ben and Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. 'Big Brother" *is* watching us. I tell you! (Apologies in advance to Bengt for quoting him here....) <> So what do you say, folks? I also hear that Ben has a secretary with the last name Wilson while Brian's secretary has the last name of Folds. Coincidence? ;-) Spencer Pam: Sex with you is really a Kafka-esque experience. Alvy: Oh. Thank you. Pam: I mean that as a compliment. Alvy: I think, I think there's too much burden placed on the orgasm, you know, to make up for empty areas in life. Pam: Who said that? Alvy: It may have been Leopold and Loeb. ---Woody Allen and Shelley Duvall in "Annie Hall" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 13:53:37 -0500 From: Carrie Subject: Sorry I meant to do this in my last post, but I'm dumb. Erik reminded me with his "Closing Time" subject line. Semisonic's "Feeling Strangely Fine" arrives in stores near you, tomorrow. It's the second full-length CD from a trio that is right up there with BFF for "greatest modern band" in my book, and I wanted to give them a quick plug. Sheer genius, I tell you. I'm dreadfully excited about getting mine. A review of the album is up at Let the groove flow. Erik likes them. Joy (my roommate) likes them. You like fruit, don't you? I'm not crazy. Some maybe wondering why I haven't posted in a while. The answer would be that it snowed like hell here in MI and my car is totaled! Just to inform those of you who don't realize it: Having 4 wheel drive and snow tires DOES NOT mean you can drive the speed limit when the road is ice! To put it as short as possible, a snow plow hit a Jeep Cheroke that was going too fast, then the Jeep careened into my lane and hit me head on. I am LUCKILY okay, but if you have never expierenced whip-lash, let me tell you it's a bitch! I feel like I am 60, I can't hardly lift a glass to my mouth, and getting up from a chair is hell. The bad part is I really liked my little car, 89 ford Taurus. It had a ton of miles but it ran and fit my entire drum set in it. Oh well, I am alive and I should be happy for that... Didn't mean to vent, but it was a tuff couple of days and I knew that you, my Rockford Files family would listen! BENtent: I guess the worst part of the crash is that one of my BFF dubs flew about the inside of my car when I was hit and before the car was towed I couldn't find it. I just hope that it's still there. See now THAT would be a causalty!
