Superdrag sorry, me again ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 07:10:09 -0600 From: "Scott A. Schneider" Subject: I choo-choo-choose you... So here I sit, drinking my grape juice sitting in front of a computer, first day back to work from spring break. I can honestly say that I wish I weren't here, but having 400 RF issues makes my day a little brighter (or at least gives me something to do for an hour)... I've just been told by a co-worker that today is St. Patrick's day, a fact I was, until 30 seconds ago, completely oblivious to. Kids in St. Louis were going nutty with shamrocks all over the streets (spray painted there, I say), and glorious green ale-chugging, I guess I just naturally figured it was sometime last weekend. Oh well... Let's throw out a few random comments since I'm behind the times. Me: Sasha Leigh or Allen Sunrise... neither of which sound good enough to mention again. Oh well... I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that I can never be a porn star or a soap opera star. Damn. Baby names: Yikes. I don't even wanna think about that yet, but-- oh, let's see. Akane is a cool name (for a girl)... actually, I have no idea. I think I'd end up naming my kid something really strange. Kate Anne is good. Just to re-assure you for no particular reason. Had a dream last night about being on a bus with my roommate and some kids from high school, and we were all sitting around discussing the pros and cons of alcohol consumption. They were all drinking Miller Lite during the discussion, which they got from a cooler in the back. I wasn't drinking anything. Hmm. The driver ended up being a freaky history teacher (Mr. Salo, Hannah, since you're the only one who'd understand), and he crashed the bus into a laundromat and all of the kids acted like it was no big deal and went inside and started randomly throwing shit into the washing machines for amusement. And if you have no interest in reading any of my dreams, then skip my fucking posts. Ha! Actual BFF content is for sissies, scott ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 08:17:50 -0500 From: Anne Lyons Subject: Rank & File... Welp... Hmmmmm... yes. I do believe that yesterday's issue of the Files had quite a bit of ranking going on! But I am sure it was a passing thing and that everyone will be singing HappyHappyJoyJoy before long (sorry Carrie... Kumbaya gets on my nerves! Must have been all that "ta, ta, ti ti, ta, rest, rest" work that I had to do in grade school music class before we got to sing! And if anyone else knows what I'm talking about... didn't you just hate those big ol' flip charts???) Actually, Ed... no need to apologize -- you are right. It *is* weird that we all feel like we know each other. Well... some of us better than others. And what I mean by that is that I actually went to Chicago for the "reunion" -- I met a slew of folks from the Files, and it was a lot of fun. But if you had asked me 2 years ago if I ever would go to a city to meet people I had met on the Internet I would have sent your @$$ right over to Bedlam. Of course, I did get to see a kickin' concert as well -- but that is beside the point. I've actually been doing a lot of thinking lately about "virtual" friendships and whatnot. Is this whole electronic revolution going to help us become better communicators or worse? Sure, I'm writing more than I ever have. And I "talk" to you people more than I talk to my old college friends. But friendships on the 'net simply do not have the same weight as friendships in the "real world". I can pick up and walk away from this at any time without any real recriminations. Whereas if you all were around, I'd have to deal with seeing you or people who knew you. So perhaps that's why we feel like we can bust on somebody at will. That was what (I felt) was happening on the MA -- people weren't taking the time to listen to what others were saying. There was a communication breakdown and it took all the fun out of it. So I really hope that doesn't happen here. I enjoy this list for all the crap that goes on... sure, I want to hear Bentent (Bacharach you say? That was news to me!) [Anne mounts the podium swathed in a Ben Folds Five banner as Philosophy swells in the background] ...but also for Sandi's .10 beer posts and Markus's Sinforosa hype and Erik's "bad day" posts, and Hannah and Scott's enthusiastic conversations, and Emily's English lessons, and Eric's Eris shout-outs, and Carrie's suggestions of songs around the campfire, and Matthew's everlasting good sense and .05 words and all the other posters whop make this list what it is. [Lights come down, spotlight up on Anne who has stepped off the podium.] Now I'm not saying we need to have a love-in every day. And I'm not saying that we all have to agree. And let's remember that this is simply e-mail -- fun e-mail -- but e-mail nonetheless. It's a beautiful day out there... Let's play two! - -Anne P.S. Happy St. Patrick's Day! P.P.S Hannah -- I heard you did fool around with James Spader, so that makes you one of us! haha! P.P.P.S In idnaS speak, do you realize that Markus would be sukraM? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 09:13:38 EST From: Lennonita Subject: ta, ta, ti ti ta, and sorry for sending this only to Anne before Yeah, Anne, I had to do that musical rhythm stuff too. No giant charts though. I always found it insulting to my intelligence because I've played piano since I was 2 and I already knew all that stuff. Comment on your virtual friends post: I send more to the RF than I do to my boyfriend. I "talk" to you guys more than I talk to him lately. Granted, he lives in New York, but still...I mean, this is becoming a part (a very small part, but a part nonetheless) of my life but I don't even know anyone. Things are funny that way. There is no battle here! It was a joke she didn't think was funny & apologies have been made. To take Ed's comments a wee tad bit further, just as the internet can build these false connections between people-which may or may not be all that false, but that's beside my point-it can also create these false battles. So fear not, fellow Filers, after that slight hiccouph (the PROPER spelling...damn you Spell Check!) of misunderstanding, the days of wine & roses on these beloved Files resume. So, turn that frown upside down (blecch), dim the lights, & put on some make-out music. It's all love & warm-fuzzies from here on! Failte! See, I had it that way, but then Spell Check tried to change it to "hiccup" (blecch) & when I changed it back, I missed the 'p'. Sorry, kids, I guess I'm imperfect after all. For anyone who cares (and no, I do not want to hear a resounding chorus of "who the hell would care, Anne?" I am sticking with my delusions of grandeur. They are ever so much more lovely than cold hard reality...) ANYWAY... I am in pics #10 and #20. In #20, I am the one in the middle... dirty blonde hair... wearing black... big grin... still boozing... that's me! So now you know. Do I have anything else to impart to the legions of the Rockford Files (or, as they say in France: 'Filet de Rocquefort' Well, I guess that is not a literal translation. Well, yeah, it's not a translation at all. It's just a phonetic translation that kind of sounded French, or at least French-Canadian. And here's a question: If you are French-Canadian, do you hail from France-Canada?) But I digress... So *does* anyone know if BFF is recording another album anytime soon? As I mentioned, I thought there was some mention of them getting back into the studio of March of 1998. And since my calendar says March of '98 (well, actually, it says December 1997, because I have yet to buy a new calendar for this year -- I kept thinking I would get one for Christmas, or at least my birthday or Valentine's Day...) I was wondering if this was a rumor (like the story about Ben being a gay crackhead); or true (like the story about them not writing, or playing or singing their own music, and their secret desires to wear neon spandex shorts and double breasted suitcoats with shoulder pads and no shirts -- a la Milli Vanilli). Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? And isn't it amazing that the "Anyone?" guy from Ferris Bueller's Day Off has his own gig on Comedy Central? Finally, I was reading the other day about celebrities & reincarnation, and there were some interesting tidbits about Paula Cole and her beliefs about her past lives. Actually, I was reading these facts off of the Pop-Up Video (tm) balloons on VH1... but I was reading, so I do believe that that counts for something. And I had a thought... what do you think were the past lives (if any) of the frabjous five? I've got a clear image of Darren as an earl in Regency England... and hmmmm... perhaps Rob as a man-about-town in New York before WWI (it's something about the bowler hat...). I've got Ben as a hussar (that's hussar, not hussy!)... but his is the most unclear... Shall we call it a thread? And to explain myself, I realized it had been quite a while since I sent a truly zany post to the RF. So I hope you enjoyed! - -Anne (Still the Undisputed Champion of the Non-Sequitor!) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 14:51:40 -0500 From: Carrie Subject: Superdrag Hey there-- just wondering if anyone on the list is a Superdrag fan...
