Have all the Brits who went to the Glasgow gigs lost their voices? Where are you Ian Abbott? BTW For those of you who don't subscribe to alt.fan.shirley-manson here's something I posted earlier re.The Reading Festival...Aug 30th ******* "Shirley Wows Reading Festival" Shirley was a WOW at yesterday's Reading Festival and gave her most exciting performance in the UK this year. In front of a huge 40,000-something crowd the band played most of the favorites from the recent tour - noticable exceptions being No1 Crush and Thirteen - clearly aiming at a "hit 'em hard" approach in this their last UK appearance for '98.Shirl and the boys entertained an enthusiastic crowd for more than an hour and were headlining the last day of this 3-day event. During frequent and often hilarious chats with the fans she said they hoped to return in January and thanked UK fans for making Version2 a No1 album - this success had "made her year" and was especially satisfying because of the long break between albums(No we didn't forget you Shirl!) She also said she drank alot of champagne last week because of her birthday and this brought loud cheers from the crowd! However,on a more "serious" note she complained that there weren't enough female stars at the Festival("I love guys and working with them but......") and went on to praise Bjork,Cerys of Catatonia and Sophie of The Audience - a thumbs up for Girl Power, perhaps? The rest of her banter was playful flirtation with the "mob" some of it too risque to repeat here but I hope you get the idea!!?? The highlight of the show(for me)was Our Goddess leaping down into the security area - not once but twice! - her raunchy behaviour followed closely on two huge screens. She was lifted back up by security/stage hands and on the second occasion some of those hands went where they shouldn't outa go - and our Shirl proceeded to chase the offender off stage! Dress-wise Shirley wore a grey-ish mini dress with a triple split at thighs and crotch - her "thingies" were the color of her new guitar (use your imagination guys! if you don't know the colour I ain't telling!!!) and yes it was the most revealing performance I have seen! It was also the most enjoyable as a band too... Dukester smiling and waving as he left the stage was a fitting finale to America's Best Band and Scotland's finest export...... Shirley Manson! Now I can't wait for '99!!!! alan Afterthoughts:The weather was a tad disappointing - dry throughout and quite warm, not a drop of rain in sight!! (That's a British Fesival joke BTW) Also alleged Garbage clones Curve(or is it vice versa?!) pulled out at the last moment and were replaced by The Audience. While waiting for Garbage to come on stage I spotted Sophie standing by a take-away stall and managed to chat and take a pic(many thanks to Claire for making the introduction - Christ I couldn't remember Sophie's name!!) I bet Shirley didn't know she was there 'cos apparently the band only had 24hrs notice(!) and performed on the smaller Melody Maker stage. ****** ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Sep 1998 00:04:54 +0100 From: nosnaM yelrihS Subject: arg! > In front of a huge 40,000-something crowd the band played most of the > favorites from the recent tour - noticable exceptions being No1 Crush > and Thirteen - clearly aiming at a "hit 'em hard" approach in this > their > last UK appearance for '98. Curve are very good live...i don't know how they compare to Garbage live, as i haven't seen Garbage...Toni has an amazing stage prescence and she totally laps up the crowd's adoration for her... by showing interest, what do you mean ? I know Butch really liked/likes Curve, and i'm not sure if you were meaning he showed romantic interest in Toni... as for the Curve/Garbage comparisons, I think the media has a nice part in it...one preview i read for an upcoming Curve concert focused on bashing Shirley the whole time... > >oh and...wow, you talked to sophie, alan...i've never heard theaudience's > >music before, but i've always thought that sophie was quite attractive... > > She is....must admit I thought it was a lookalike when I first spotted > her walking past to the takeaway stall.Suprised to see her buying chips > (I think you call them potato fries?)Anyway she didn't stop for Garbage! > Well, she isn't *that* big of a star yet...anyways, i reckon everyone will forget about her in a few years a la w/Louise Wener kev http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Marina/6273/index.html np: Fire Door(proper, recorded version) by Ani DiFranco on a tape someone made me "soma airwaves of killing oxygen we queue consuming anything hate all songs, aesthetic slavery now" - -manic street preachers ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Aug 1998 20:38:13 -0600 (MDT) From: Josh Nadler Subject: Re: arg! Missing Link and some of the stuff off of Public Fruit (a comp. of their first 3 british EPs) sounds a bit like Garbage. I don't know a lot about Curve though. I just picked some discs off the self here at the station. The production sounds like it falls between the graininess of "Garbage" and the smoothed out sound of "Version 2.0". Missing link sounds closest to Garbage, but with a harder edge. Trent Reznor and Flood did the mixing on the track.
