"It'll be cool because there will be more production in terms of lights and sounds," says the band's mastermind Butch Vig. "We've started tinkering with the arrangements. Some of the songs on the new album, we're changing a bit. The songs on the last record, we're changing quite a bit. We're using different elements of some of the remixes of the tracks, and stripping some down a lot more." For example, Vig says that the band is thinking of performing "Medication," from the band's lastest album, Version 2.0, acoustically. "We just did a B-side in the studio and recorded it acoustically with just piano, acoustic guitar, and Shirley's [Manson] vocals. It was really easy to do in the studio; I think we're going to start approaching it that way live." "Stupid Girl," from the band's self- titled debut, may also get a reworking. "There's a couple of remixes we did," continues Vig, "where instead of taking the album version and trying to use the Clash sample, we're gonna strip it down to something else. We're really not sure yet. Maybe [we'll use] some of the elements of [the remix by] Rabbit in the Moon, so it's much more trippy." Garbage has already begun to do that with a few songs, such as "Queer," and has started rehearsing "The Trick Is to Keep Breathing" in a dub way. "I think we need to do that for ourselves as well as to keep it interesting for our fans. Personally, I get bored if I have to play exactly the same thing." While Vig and Co. enjoy playing to large crowds at festivals, such as the recent Fuji festival in Tokyo and their forthcoming headlining spot at the Reading Festival on Aug. 30, he says the band is anxiously awaiting their own full-on tour. "Festivals are a lot of fun, but it's not really our show. Hopefully, when people come to see us [on the forthcoming U.S. tour], they're gonna go into the Garbage zone -- our own little world we created." The "Garbage zone" will be more of an atmospheric club show, rather than a "rock show," with rave elements involved, according to Vig. "We're pretty excited about it," he adds. The tour is currently being mapped out. - -Carrie Borzillo ____________________________________________ all contents are the copyright ) 1996, 1997,1998 of N2K Inc. any derivative works of this content must hyperlink to and credit: "Rocktropolis allstar News at http://allstarmag.com" kev website updated w/neato new stuff at: http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Marina/6273/index.html np: This Is Hardcore by Pulp on the US version of This Is Hardcore "i wanted to rub the human faith in its own vomit -and then force it to look in the mirror" j.g. ballard ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Aug 1998 23:52:30 -0500 From: "Michele Santiago" Subject: Re: Garbage planes new arrangements, rave elements for new tour I'm stoked for the tour now...I figured, why follow the band around when they do the same set every night? But if they're gonna be doing different things...YEAAAAAHHHHHH Something I've thought of - I think Shirley's too used to festival shows...she should lean into the audience more with smaller shows, tease them, talk more between songs...I haven't heard much of that with the live shows I have...mebbe I'm just deprived though ::< - --Michele Michele Santiago, shell@poe.org The Spirit of Serramonte Will Never Die! ;D http://members.aol.com/vr5sbloom/psychovixen.html For Live 105 stories, P(*)E links, VR.5, Buffy, Mono, and other cool places on the {{{{{Web}}}}} Watch VR.5 on The Sci-Fi Channel, Monday nites at 10pm Eastern 7 Pacific!!!
