However, it's Madonna who leads the nominations with a total of nine. The nominations were announced by MTV president Judy McGrath and Courtney Love of Hole at a press conference at the Garden of Eden in Hollywood. It was also announced that Hole will be performing at the awards ceremony, which will be telecast live by MTV, along with Dave Matthews Band, Master P, Madonna, and others yet to be revealed.
