And the first keyboard is a synth, which they switch out for a Hammond A-100 organ with a different synth mounted on top of it. The synth sometimes plays harpsichord sounds, so that may help account for the confusion in Jennifer's wonderful review. Too bad more English teachers aren't on the list. And we'll happily take any concert comments, major or minor. At least, I know *I* love seeing the descriptions of and reactions people have to the concerts, especially the non-jaded ones. If you go to scores of concerts in a row and roll your eyes at Hey Jupiter, keep that to yourself; all other types of comments are welcome, at least by me. If you're on PT, it's because the music is important to you somehow. I never tire of hearing people tell what that is for them. And simply telling what happened at a concert. Always swell. Boesendorfer will be sold to a consortium around Brodman Pianos, a local piano maker, cutting out Japanese piano producer Yamaha, who had put in a strong bid for Boesendorfer, Austria's ORF TV reported on Friday. Boesendorfer's sale comes as part of a consolidation drive of its owner, Austria's BAWAG bank. BAWAG had been taken over by US-funds Cerberus earlier this year. Brodman Pianos, run by a former Boesendorfer sales manager, paid just under 11 million euros (16.1 dollars) for the ailing piano manufacturer, media reports said. In 2006 Boesendorfer reported losses of 2 million euros. Its debts are estimated to be around 8 million euros. Rumours regarding a sale of the 1828-founded manufacture abroad led to controversies in Vienna's culture scene, raising fears that Austria would lose another one of its cultural icons to globalization. Staff representatives had demanded guarantees against production outsourcing abroad, stressing that a Boesendorfer piano had to be produced solely in Austria, or it would lose its unique status. That was some good music making Tori was doing when she was working with that monster of an instrument! I was lucky enough to purchase VIP platinum tickets back in August for this show. I think that fates were smiling at me that day because so many people had a hard time with them. This was my first time meeting Tori and I was definitely not disappointed! My husband and I arrived in Charlotte around noon that day after making the trip from West Virginia. We did some stuff around town before making our way to Ovens. We arrived at Ovens around 4:30 which was also the same time that Tori was doing her meet and greet outside the venue. Around 5:00 Ali Evans, Jon Evans' wife, came out and said they were running a little behind and to give them ten minutes. About 5:15 or so she came back out and let us in. She checked everyone in and gave us wrist bands that were either silver (platinum) or gold. We did the crowd free shopping, waited a little while longer and then we went in to the sound check. Tori and the guys sound checked Concertina and Take to the Sky for us. Then it was time to go backstage to meet her. Max (husband) and I were about the 7th and 8th people in line. When it was our turn I got so nervous. I walked over and she put out her hand and asked what my name was. I managed to tell her and then she took my To Venus and Back liner notes and signed them. I was able to tell her how to spell my name. And then I just kind of stood there. I knew that my time with her was running out so I just kind of blurted out what I had planned to say. When I started she looked up at me and just stared in to my eyes. I don't know if she even so much as blinked. When I was finished blubbering out what I needed to tell her she said, "Oh come here" and she hugged me. Then she turned to Max and said, "You've got a good woman". I could have died right there! Max spoke with her for a little bit. Then he handed her the liner notes to my Under the Pink album and he told her it was for Christmas and she said, "I'm going to do something special". She wrote for a while and then whispered to Max. Then we took our pictures and our time was over. We took our stuff out to the car and put it in the trunk and Max let me look at the Under the Pink liner notes. She put "For Wendi '2nd star to the right and straight on until morning' Love, Tori Amos". I almost cried. And if you don't know that quote is from Peter Pan when he is telling Wendy how to get to Neverland, which is what she was whispering to Max. She was so amazing. I feel really lucky getting to meet her after so many years being a fan. Max has since taken the liner notes from me and put them away until Christmas. Anyway on to the show. Tori played as Clyde that night which I had kind of figured since she had family in the audience and Clyde is somewhat calmer than say Pip. Bouncing is a great opener. Rattlesnakes was definitely a highlight. I had always kind of skipped over Beauty of Speed but hearing it played live made me look at it in another way and give it another listen. When Tori came out she was dancing around to Big Wheel and apparently some people rushed the stage and were dancing in aisles. I wasn't really paying attention to what was going on, I was too involved watching the show. But I noticed that Tori started to focus in on a certain area in the right side of the orchestra and then she called for Smitty once, then a second time a little more urgently. I looked over to see security guards from the venue trying to put people back in their seats. And of course we all know what happened next. F-word went flying and she marched up to the front of the stage. After that everyone stood for the rest of the show and loads of people rushed the stage. The show was extremely high energy. She seemed very happy to be there. Oh yeah, Mountain was amazing. When the band started playing it I looked at Max and said, "No way". Then she joined in and I knew we were going to witness something special. Overall the show was amazing. This is the only show that I was able to see on this tour. I had hoped she would be in the US during the summer as I teach and wouldn't needed to worry about the time off. We drove back to WV after the show and didn't get home until 2:45 AM. I don't really remember much of what I taught on Wednesday :) Tuesday is definitely a day that I will never forget. I just hope that she doesn't stay away for too long. Alright no more rambling...
