Ah the 3 UK shows were all over so quickly - 3 consecutive nights in fact, I was so lucky to be able to get to all of them, I've not been able to have that intense a live Tori blast before. And my main comment to the rest of the world is just do anything you can to get as many of these shows as you possibly can. General review-ish comments from me are: * Big Wheel - None of the bootlegs do this justice (especially not the soundboard ones, they sound so dull, and have convinced me I'd much rather have a well-mixed selection of shows released after the tour than a bung-them-all-out complete set). There's just so much energy leaping around the venue as Tori's playing it. On the first night her gesticulations made it quite clear which lips were dry... The drumming is fantastic, growing almost to a whole new pattern for each separate verse, I remember feeling reminded of Adam And The Ants at one point. Be prepared to get very odd looks from any uninitiated concert goers as you find yourself yelling the "DONT-YOU-FOR-GET!" bit when Tori indicates you should. * Bouncing Off Clouds - Tori's version is great. Clyde's version is somethin' else. For some reason it just seemed obvious we'd get Pip in Manchester (it's a dirrrty town), so when the extended trippy intro to this launched the show, and just slowly lifted and lifted and lifted itself up, as Clyde emerged on to the stage like some nervous little creature, shrouded in hair ("she's come as Cousin It!" was an initially understandable misapprehension by my other half), it was electrifying. She seems so so so fragile as she begins telling you her secrets, and there's a whole new thing going on between the synth and the guitar. * Glory of the 80s - Suddenly sounds like it was written yesterday. I've always loved the song but somehow felt the mix was just a millimetre off hitting the nail on the head on Venus. Now, it just bursts out of that band, perfectly. I think it's being played a little faster than previous tours (see below) or maybe it just feels like it. * Almost Rosey - had me in unexpected cathartic floods of tears in a way I haven't experienced since the early days - and remember, yes, while the solo-piano version on Amazon is lovely, as lovely as all the other ballads are on solo piano, but Almost Rosey is The One With The Cheesy Guitar - relish it. * Santa is, as I believe the current terminology would have it, *THE* shit. My Posse Can Do is Wednesday and Bachelorette and Voodoo and Talula and 'Minnie the Moocher' all dunked in martini and served with a shimmy. Bonus points to her for either pretending to nearly fall over as she tottered off stage in London, or actually nearly falling over and managing not to. * Most songs are being played at least at the same speed she plays them on the album. Except for the ones which.. wait for it... she plays FASTER. * The ratio of new album songs to others on the set lists is 1/3rd new, 2/3rds old. I wish it was the other way round, but she's being consistent, it was the same on the Beekeeper tours. * Still not talking much though. * Venues permitting, they're still letting the audience rush to the front of the stage at the end of the main set.
