Tom, I was thinking about asking if anyone was wondering about anything "missing" from, or disappointing in this latest collection. After reading the track list I got the feeling that this can't possibly please everyone. ;/ I even thought the bootlegs collection was expensive. :( Feeling like I can relate (and no, I don't think you're being a bad fan. Everyone has opinions), Lorna - -----Original Message----- From: Tom Subject: RE: [pt] details about the rarities box set! Wow! I'm actually disappointed. I have no interest in remixes and alternate versions. I just want the bsides and unreleased tracks. And where's "Song for Eric?" I feel like I have to buy it for the true rarities, but I don't like that I'm paying for yet another version of "Sugar," "Crucify," etc. I hate to sound cranky or like a bad fan, but really, all I wanted was a bside and unreleased track compliation that would've been somewhat affordable. This is a lot of money to spend. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 06:32:21 -0400 From: paintedpage@aol.com Subject: [pt] rarities box set I agree with you. There are quite a few songs I was hoping to see which are not there if I'm reading the track listing right. Such as Graveyard, Siren, After All, Do It Again, Lovesong, her cover of River, and Operation Peter Pan, just to name a few. I was hoping that with this new rarities release, I could get rid of all of my Tori singles and save room in my CD case! Also I wanted everything in one place, and it's not. I don't understand the logic behind including all of these old favorites - we all have them already. I doubt too many people who are new to Tori will buy them. Why does Tori keep remixing these songs? It's not getting her any new listeners, I don't think. I'm definitely going to buy this, but I'm curious about why she put the package together the way she did. This may not win me any friends here, but I am feeling somewhat taken advantage of by Tori's advertising rarities and B-sides and then putting out CDs in which at least half of the material is songs I've already got, sometimes in multiple versions from her official releases. It looks to me like many of the songs are not even remixes, such as Bells for Her, but are identical to the previous version. Plus the remixes, which I really don't want, and except for disc 5, there doesn't seem to be much new here. I'm sorry, but I'm wondering if this is a cynical marketing strategy on Tori's part: put out "rarities" and then when they sell, put out another box set: "rarities, volume 2," or whatever. I just don't understand the point of this release. Maybe I'll feel differently after it comes out and I see some reviews of it. I am quite happy with the sound of the boxset, especially the side notes from Tori. But I do see what everyone is saying. It does seem redundant to hear a hundred different versions of the same songs over and over. It will be nice to hear these as officially released versions. I just wish it was coming out next week! And hopefully she'll think about doing a little tour to support the new songs. Amy - -- "What girls do to each other is beyond description. No chinese torture comes close."
