["Tom xxxxx" Subject: RE: [pt] details about the rarities box set! Wow! I'm actually disappointed. I have no interest in remixes and alternate versions. I just want the bsides and unreleased tracks. And where's "Song for Eric?" I feel like I have to buy it for the true rarities, but I don't like that I'm paying for yet another version of "Sugar," "Crucify," etc. I hate to sound cranky or like a bad fan, but really, all I wanted was a bside and unreleased track compliation that would've been somewhat affordable. This is a lot of money to spend. Cheers, Tom M. "Can you Mr. Bush light the sage" - --- Tori Amos, "Indian Summer" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 00:59:07 +0100 From: "Pete Lambert" Subject: Re: [pt] details about the rarities box set! Woo, and indeed, to further the point, hoo! "Unedited single version of Crucify" - interesting - the 7" mix done by whatshisname with the "enough guilt to start my own religion" bit and full length "please be save me" perhaps? At last, Merman in stereo! (is the bass on the left and the treble on the right like the Old Days, or is it a lucky dip which way up the piano is, as it has been the past few albums? Yes, I spend time thinking about these things) And "alternate mix" of Mother begs the question... "eh?". Suddenly I remember reading an interview, around the time of UTP promotion (possibly BFP), where Tori said something like "sometimes you just have to have the confidence to hit 'delete' on a gorgeous string section you've recorded for a track, because it isn't what the album needs at the point where that song will be appearing". If I follow that train of thought any further..... ok I'll contain it to a "yay" for now, but let's make it clear that that's an UNDERSTATEMENT. Curious about all the other alternate mixes, although I'm trying not to expect TOO many hidden treasures, just the odd extra layer as with most of the Librarian versions (I'm presuming these were all prepared for potential inclusion on that? Will it be the Shady Feline mix of Cruel or a newer un-edited one? Time will tell....) I wonder if Disc One represents how Tori 2006 would have put out Little Earthquakes if she had been producing it back when Tori 1991 released it? It does look like a running order that could easily stand alone as an album, not just Disc 1 of 5. I wonder about how Scarlet and TBK would have been recieved if cut down to 12 or so tracks with the rest as b-sides/online bonuses. Would that have made them more accessable to newcomers? Zero Point - at LAST :o) And the other newbies all sound grand. I'm not even scared by a title like "dolphin song". The demos sound fascinating ("Fire eater's wife"? Yum), and Frog On My Toe is a gorgeous and totally under-estimated song to end with. Kind of odd including tracks from Librarian. My dreams of hearing Glory Of The 80s with the harpsichord turned UP seem to have been thwared for the time being, although it's interesting that the song gets included here while the video was left off from Fade To Red without any explanation (that I saw). So my reaction's very positive. Might have to wait til christmas til I get my copy though...
