Am I the only one that has noticed that on the back of the packaging, it specifically reads, "Dolby Digital" and "5.1 Surround"? Yet when you go to audio setup it only gives you two options, 2-Channel PCM Stereo and DTS. For those of us (me) with an older DVD player that does not support DTS, we are forced to listen to this fine video collection in normal 2-channel stereo. What happened to the 5.1 surround that was adverstised? And while I'm at it, the sound quality of this DVD is very sub-par. I've put in CDs to compare the sound of the original recordings versus the songs on the DVD and the CDs sound MUCH better. I dunno...maybe it would be different if I could listen to it in 5.1. Atlantic...you can kiss my ass!! Tony What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? I am new to this. They turned out to be bootlegs and poor quality as well. I don't want to keep them. My question is: what should I do with them? I'm not sure selling them is kosher. I also bought a couple of Tori interview CDs, such as "Tea with the Waitress," that I'm not really interested in. In general, do you feel that Tori stuff on eBay is not worth the price? The only purchase I'm happy with is "Under the Pink/More Pink" because I love the B-sides. And I'm pretty sure that's not a bootleg. Other than that, I wish I hadn't bothered. I was a sucker for anything labeled "rare" with Tori's name on it. I knew people had this sitting around on videotapes from that era, and I've been surprised it never surfaced before this. I'm also glad that when I tracked it down in the Kellogg's archives twelve or so years back that I didn't pay them the $500 they wanted for a personal-use copy of it! I suppose people are more likely to comment when they have a complaint than they are to praise, so should I believe that everyone else who got the DVDs is in love with them? I only watched them once and with the commentary on, and I thought she pulled back the curtain in many respects as to how to consider art, and her work in particular. I was glad she did that, and I thought the visual quality was excellent. I only have regular stereo so Tony's problems are off my radar screen, but they need to be selling what they advertise, don't they? That's really nutty to me. I don't think Atlantic is to blame for this, however. So let a thousand flowers bloom and let us know what you think about the DVDs, people! Thanks. Richard, thanks for supplying us with that link. :) someone sent me the video file of the commercial a long time ago, and it's almost frightening to watch. cuz I mean that's Tori.. and yet.. she's banging on the piano and singing about the joys of Just Right with some guy.. o_O now.. if someone could just put her appearance on that Trial By Jury show from back then onto YouTube too, I'd be very happy. I have yet to watch the videos without the commentary on, but daaaaaamn is the video quality good! that part impresses me more than anything. I don't have any audio issues (other than the fact that they aren't selling what they advertise.. oog. not nice.) but I am very, VERY impressed with the collection. my only complaint is no The Big Picture, no Glory of the 80's (which ranks right up there with Hey Jupiter to me), and no Strange Little Girl. *pouts for a few seconds* the making of ASF footage was quite impressive to me, I might add. I love watching behind-the-scenes footage of stuff like that and I personally think that if there is any behind-the-scenes footage for any of her other videos, that she should release it too, at some point. (..said the aspiring video editor..) but yeah.. I'm quite happy with what I got.. definitely. Sincerely, Cyndi S. I am new to this. They turned >out to be bootlegs and poor quality as well. sorry to hear about this. it's unfortunate you didn't check with any of the various tori fora on the net first since there is a vibrant trading community, any memeber of which would have been happy to trade you bootlegs -- and not necessarily poor-sounding ones -- for free. >I don't want to keep them. My question is: what should I do with >them? I'm not sure selling them is kosher. yeah, selling them is pretty unkosher. selling bootlegs is technically against ebay's trems of service so you may be able to lodge a complaint with them and perhaps get a refund from the seller -- or at least get the seller banned for ebay (temporarily, probably, but it's satisfying). if you really don't want them, i think you should be able to find someone here, on the tori-boot yahoogroup or the toritraders.com forums who would be interested in taking them off your hands. since selling boots here, there and nearly any other tori forum is verboten, the best option is for someone to pay the nominal postage for you to send the discs to them. or to trade them for blank media. or something similar. >I also bought a couple of Tori interview CDs, such as "Tea with the >Waitress," that I'm not really interested in. is that tea with the watress cd a cd-r or an actual pressed cd? the latter is actually a promotional release which is acceptable to see (since it's a legitimate copy of the disc) and a collector's item which might fetch you $15-$25 or so. >In general, do you feel that Tori stuff on eBay is not worth the >price? if it's a bootleg -- that is a, a live recording made by someone in the audience -- it's not worth the price since one should be able to find that for free via either a snail mail trade or via an electronic exchange (which is what toritraders.com is primarily about). >The only purchase I'm happy with is "Under the Pink/More Pink" >because I love the B-sides. And I'm pretty sure that's not a bootleg. there was a legitimate australian (if i remember correctly) double-cd release of that. however, it's pretty uncommon to find the actual 2-cd set as opposed to a burned cd-r copy of it on ebay. >Other than that, I wish I hadn't bothered. I was a sucker for anything >labeled "rare" with Tori's name on it. that's a ploy many ebay sellers use in hopes of snaring a buyer. basically, ebay is not for the uninformed purchaser. unfortunately, many people do not realize this. woj ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2006 15:41:36 -0500 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: Re: Fade To Red one time at band camp, Tony Fernandes (tbone407@charter.net) said: >Atlantic...you can kiss my ass!! i think you mean "rhino". ;) woj ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2006 15:02:30 -0500 From: Kelley Subject: Re: Fade To Red I'm pleased with it. No technical difficulties, though I did notice a copyreader must have been sleeping with regard to some of the wording on the packaging (the parallelism is off compared to how the same things are worded on the DVD). Mostly I am struck by the beauty of her vision and the people she has chosen to work with over the years to make a visual component of her sound. I thought I would be all riveted back to the 'old days' when I caught her early videos realtime on TV and feel them o so deeply. In reality I was pretty amused at how dated even she looks, when in the timeframe that the early stuff was out she was way ahead of her time =) It all was very lucid and conceptual then, but now it seemed silly and pretty--which is OK. Her early videos have a very different feel than the later ones--particularly the Cindy-esque ones. I don't think it's done intentionally at all, but she really does go for some of the most obscure ways to reach people. I find that interesting looking back at these vids now, given her statements recently about releasing something with a parental warning or changing the content to reach more people. She opted for the latter. I realize curse words aren't comparable to heads on kneecaps, but the point still stands =) Be well! - -- ~~S. Kelley Harrell, C.Ht. I love the videos, and I've been waiting a LONG time for such a collection on DVD. I was just very disappointed that I couldn't listen to them in 5.1 DD as I had assumed I would. And, I was just not very impressed with the clarity of the recordings. It would be safe to say that 99% of the people would never even notice (or care)...it's just that I'm somewhat of an audiophile and these sorts of things really matter to me. The DVD collection is great and I'm really excited to have it - and I think most other peple will agree. So I'd definitely recommend getting it, with my aforementioned gripes notwithstanding.
