I say, put the talking on its own track as *I* do when I track a concert recording that I've transferred from cassette or retracked for some reason. (Many CDs have come to me with the track separations a couple of seconds into the next song so I retrack them. Hell, some come in with glitches there, too, which I edit out.) My main complaint in this is that people send tracks to Audrey for hereinmyhead.com without the introductions, and the context is lost for those who download these MP3s of the concerts. So no, I'm not a moron and I understand the idea of sometimes wanting to skip to the next bit of music when playing an entire concert. Put the spoken intro on its own track and send them both to Audrey and put it on its own track when you prepare this stuff for distribution as a complete concert and we should all be happy. Imaginary problem solved. And frankly, one thing I fear might happen to these official concert releases is that some of the talking will be left out as it was on the videotape release of the Concert for RAINN, thus effectively rewriting history *a la* Joseph Stalin. The few 2005 concert recordings I've heard sound pretty clear overall and this problem of muffled speech from the stage seems less likely to happen than it used to be, so if this kind of editing is done to these released concert recordings it won't exactly be hidden, but I have to think it's the official releases that will be more widely distributed in the long run. I hope my fears about such editing will not be realized. I admit to being a purist about not leaving anything out including all applause, but cutting some of that is far less offensive to me than is cutting out any sounds from the stage. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Aug 2005 06:23:44 +0000 From: "micah maranda" Subject: RE: recordings and intros and such Dearest Richard, Ditto about the intros. Some of us don't have a concert in its entirety on a CD, some of us just have songs here and there. Micah What is it that makes a man dive into a freezing river to save a solid gold baby?
