Maybe I'm dense, but I'm not getting it. "The pirates have come between Rebecca's"? What does this mean? Anybody got a clue?<< There are novels that this song is based on. They are Jamaica Inn and Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier. The same author also wrote Birds that Alfred Hitchcock turned into a movie. There is a thread on toriphorums regarding this song. Go to Interpretations and look for Jamaica Inn. As of right now, it's on Page 2 of this section. If in doubt, always check the Interpretations page out. It's very informative and helpful. 'Course it's all opinion, but sometimes all we need is another idea to come to our own. It sounds bizarre. Has anyone seen it? It's a mockumentary. It is a bit on the bizarre side. I wrote a review of it in the Summer 2004 issue of "Little Blue World". You can buy a back copy of this issue (or any other issue) from our website, as well as subscribe there. The website is: http://www.little-blue-world.org/ The next issue of LBW features an in-depth exclusive interview with Tori. That's probably a better reason for you to go to our website and check us out. :) /nm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Apr 2005 18:13:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Jennifer Mitts Subject: Re: Jamaica Inn R, You are awesome for getting that allusion. I just looked up D. Du Maurier's bibliography and there's only one book with the title Rebecca in it, so I can't figure out why Tori says something is "between Rebecca's" or "between Rebeccas." I also thought it was interesting that another one of du Maurier's titles is Mary Ann and so is one of Tori's songs (Marianne). - -jen - --- eviltori@aol.com wrote: > Daphne du Maurier wrote "Jamaica Inn" before > her novel "Rebecca" -- and that's all I know on > that subject. "The >pirates have come between Rebecca's"? What does >this mean? Anybody got a clue? Hi Jen You aren't dense. You just haven't read a lot of Daphne DuMornier (I think I'm spelling that wrong). "Jamaica Inn" and "Rebecca" are two of her novels. Not sure about the firmaments. I'm paraphrasing what my boyfriend told me, who has read "Jamaica Inn." I may get some of the details wrong, but "Jamaica Inn" is about a girl in Cornwall who lives in the Jamaica Inn, a hangout for local pirates and wreckers. Wreckers are folks who would go down to the coast when ships were coming in and light lanterns. The men on the ship would think that the wreckers were lighthouses or beacons leading them to safety. In reality, the wreckers were leading the boats onto rocks, so that they could steal the cargo that would wash up after the shipwreck. That also explains the last verse about the cliffs and lantern and also the theme of trust in the song. I haven't read "Rebecca" but it is the basis of the Hitchcock movie of the same name. I hope this helps somewhat. I wonder if "firmaments" is from another of DuMornier's writings. Cheers, Tom M. I was hoping that a full recording of the Atlanta show exists somewhere. I did track down a few files, but I would really love to get my hands on a full recording. I was lucky enough to get a copy of the first Sarah McLachlan concert I attended, and would really like to do the same for my first Tori show, which was amazing, I might add. thanks! onionne ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Apr 2005 14:33:44 -0400 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: Re: Atlanta concert recording? one time at band camp, onionne (onionne@gmail.com) said: >I was hoping that a full recording of the Atlanta show exists >somewhere.
