(she came outside, smiled at everyone, then her people took her onto her bus. one of her guys made 2 trips to all of us to gather up what we wanted signed. there were only 15 of us left by that time) i would have liked to have met her, but i understand that b/c of the extreme cold, she couldn't have stood outside long at all. >From: ChaseTornadoes@aol.com >To: precious-things@smoe.org >Subject: toriamos.com & Cyndi Lauper. >Date: Thu, 26 Feb 2004 12:15:13 EST > > >Also, this isn't that big of a deal but I saw Cyndi Lauper in concert about >a >week ago and as she introduced her piano player she said "he's no Tori >Amos, >but here's...so and so on piano...that was funny! The guy's entitled to his opinion, however wrong it may be. ;) But his choice of wording was inexcusably poor. Here's what I had to say to the editor: I'll bet you've received tens of angry e-mails from Tori Amos fans about this review that's just recently been brought to our attention by one of our friends. It's my understanding that others have written about the lack of a review of the actual album in the review, and also about the way Repsher dismissed the entire idea pretty much out of hand. Since those bases has already been covered, I'd like to point out something that probably hasn't been said. Allow me to quote the article in question: But to use her mindset now, America was "asking for it" the same way she was by wearing "a slinky red thing"-- right? Substitute sexual imperialism for cultural, and that poor rapist who had a go at her was simply responding in the only way he knew how to years of intimidation and repression, the same way the terrorists did on 9/11. Sounds screwy? I hope you're nodding in agreement. If not, Tori Amos' new album, Scarlet Walk, is in stores on Oct. 29! Although I don't agree with his interpretation, I understand the point Repsher was trying to make. However, I feel that his metaphor is extraordinarily inappropriate. I understand that it was meant in a tongue-in-cheek manner, but it is quite offensive -- and I would imagine that it would be exceptionally so to Tori Amos herself, who has been helping to heal the wounds of rape survivors for a decade now. I understand the ethical dilemmas regarding censoring and/or censuring opinion writers. But I feel that there are certain things which are inappropriate for publication, and that this is certainly one of them.
