I'm in the library school at the U of WI - Madison campus, and I have yet to see any of the advertising mentioned in this press release. As for toal, I'm pleased with the increased depth many of the songs now display. But I can't help but wonder, how would these remastered songs sound on a Super Audio (is that what it's called?) disc? And when will it be released so I can buy it again in the new format? R - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- carved by fingerpuppets into the tablet: There's also a truly unique promotion kicking off at www.atlantic-rocks.com as of today, where Amos fans can enter to win an exclusive Accoutrements) Librarian Action Figure, personally autographed by Tori herself. " So uh, never. The CD's all you get if you want the new versions. The article is an interesting read too for what it's worth, although non-techies may get a little bored of it after the first half of it when it goes into all the details of how the thing was made. I was wondering about DVD-Audio. It's better quality than SACD (Super Audio CD) [1]. You can play it in your existing DVD video player, although you'll get better quality if you have a player for DVD-A. (There are universal DVD players that will play DVD-V and DVD-A, but I don't know how widespread they are.) R.E.M. has been re-mixing their back catalogue for DVD-A. A bunch of old Bob Dylan albums are available on SACD [2]. There's industry support for both formats. Will one of them win, or will we end up with universal players that will play SACDs, DVD-V, and DVD-A? I dunno. /nm [1] That point is up for debate, of course, but that's because audiophiles love arguing. [2] I have to wonder who the hell would want to hear his horrible voice in even better sound quality. Dylan is a good lyricist, don't get me wrong, but I firmly believe that he shouldn't be allowed within a hundred yards of a microphone. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V8 #266 *************************************
