Ok, so rub salt in my wounds because I couldn't make it to Orlando (or New Orleans, for that matter) but geez, it'd be damn nice to give Tori a chance to sing one note before profoundly declaring that the show will suck. Yeah, ok, it wasn't what I had hoped for, but I was still happy to be at the last show. Excuse me for having a real job and a life and not being able to make it every goddamn show and aren't you lucky for being at Orlando. Go you. (That being said, someone please inform Tori it's not polite to have the last couple shows fall in the middle of the friggen week.) Tori's voice was so > strong that night. Overall, a wonderful show. I thought it was chilling the way her voice was so strong out of the gate and throughout the show - Carbon in particular benefited from a particularly distinctive treatment - and Smells Like Teen Spirit (although it didn't top Bakersfield '99 for me) was truly haunting - can't wait to hear the boot. > Speaking of New Orleans, in my mind, I move that show forward through > time and plunk it down in the 124th spot, chronologically speaking, so > that it's the last show. I dunno. It works for me. Works for me, too. It had all the last show energy and surprises, the venue was beautiful, the crowd was one of the best all tour, and Nola was the perfect backdrop. It left one with much more of a sense of closure than WPB. And, Live To Tell and Pretty Good Year killed! All that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the WPB show - attempting to bring no expectations to the shows allows each one to emerge as a unique, multifaceted experience. In many cases song selection and performance are less important factors in determining the emotional value of a show and the memories that persist afterward. In the WPB case, not only was I purely happy just to be there at all and with so many dear familiar faces, but the final Hey Jupiter was a very beautiful, moving and (dare I say? - I do) almost transcendent experience. Just for the record, Professional Widow rawked!, Cooling is always magical for me and I never tired of hearing ASF all tour! Cheers! ~~Tito ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2003 15:21:09 -0400 From: "RasinGirrl" Subject: Re: orlando vs. wpb No, the setlist wasn't the best, most-rare ever and yes Tori did play up to the cameras more than the audience at times, but I personally am very happy to have been at the last show until 2005 (I'm not counting the October Boston thing). It was nice to be there and send her goodbye vibes and hang out with some people I won't see again for 2 years. Plus it was cool to see Matt & Jon rockin' out with Ben :) As far as it being the middle of the week, I don't think Tori herself had anything to do with that. But that's why you save up your vacation/sick days! lol! - - D ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2003 15:29:21 -0400 From: Lisa071573@aol.com Subject: last show stuff so Richard sent me the archive link to PT so I could read his initial post to Brian... Richard said: [as the Phoenix concert in '01 was a far more intense and expressive experience than were the two concerts the next day in San Diego which ended the U.S. leg of that tour.] Richard you absolutely suck for pointing this out. Yes the Phoenix 01 show sounds unfuckingbelievably awesome on the bootleg and I am still kicking myself for not realizing how close Phx was to San Diego and not going to that show... (and that show is the sole reason I will never ever again miss an AZ show). However, the San Diego shows were really good and I don't think they were a let down as "final" shows go. There were all sorts of great things done that night, including New Age, Alamo and Precious Things.
