[Abbuford@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 00:00:16 EDT From: ToriVolta@aol.com Subject: Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean's new project Hey All, In the July 18, 2003 issue of Entertainment Weekly, there is an article about Neil and Dave McKeans' new project. You've mentioned it before, but I thought that this may interest you. Here it is verbatim: First Look MIRRORMASK Children of the '80's should fondly recall Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson's moody cinematic forays. Now the late Muppeteer's company has tapped writer Neil Gaiman(the Sandman comics) and director-illustrator Dave McKean for a Muppet-free feature (due in 2004) about a circus performer, Helena (Stephanie Leonidas), caught between kingdoms of light and dark. Here, Dark Queen Gina McKee ponders Helena's fate. Gaiman reports that postings on his website have been lively: "Somebody said this couldn't be at all like Labyrinth because if didn't have the bulge in David Bowie's trousers."-Scott Brown Sounds fascinating... except for not seeing the bulge. :) Anyway, just thought you'd like to read this. I was torn between Blood Roses, Muhammad, Way Down, and Suede, but in the end voted for Muhammad (Pele rules). So hard to pick. I know Datura and Do It Again are winning, but I have to tell you, both of those songs bore me. Obviously, I'm in the minority. I hope that the fact that so many cool songs are on the list means that Tori herself is considering them and some of them show up at the shows. Ugh. I finally got to watch all the videos yesterday from a friend's computer and I just have to say that the winning video is the last one I would have picked. I don't normally throw my two cents in on this list, but I just think that what Susan Herbert made was the most obvious video in the world. My personal favorite was the Ming-Shian Wang, but I think that Lee McCaulla or Barclay should have won.... ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V8 #174 *************************************
