First off, does Tori play the xylophone in the song 'The Happy Worker'? Or does she only sing, or what? Secondly, does anyone know how old she was when she recorded that song? I got it off of the Internet and I don't have the soundtrack to look at the date. Anyway... The song was written by Trevor Horn and Bruce Woolley. It doesn't specifically list who plays what instruments, but I would take a guess that she is singing only and not playing any instruments. Tony What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2003 10:51 PM Subject: The Happy Worker > > Hey all, > My nephew, Dustin, just asked me a few Tori questions that I couldn't answer > and I was hoping for your help. I bet ya that's what it is! somebody.. correct me if I'm wrong.. or slap me.. or SOMETHING cuz it really, REALLY bugs me that some of my favorite artists (Tori and Kid Rock to name a few) are appearing on CMT cuz I'm not very big on country music (or rather--southern rock.. whichever you wanna call it.). It now simply says that tickets will go on sale Sunday, June 8, 2003 at 10:00am. This may mean the presale, which was scheduled for June 7, will not happen now. http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1C0036C3B5C85DB7 - -- Mikewhy, From one of my beloved Macs - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Whitehead mikewhy@iglou.com A Dent In The Tori Amos Net Universe => "my fear is greater than my faith" Tori Amos - Suede - ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 15:00:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Tori on CMT Cyndi S Crawford wrote: > I think I figured out why Tori's on CMT these days.. they're > doing a concert that accompanies a top 100 (I think) best country > song ever list.. and we all know Tori covered Desperado by the > Eagles.. and... a lot of people consider that a "country" song.. > and... I wouldn't guess that it has anything to do with Tori's cover of 'Desperado'. Even though it has appeared on cable, it's not as if everyone on the face of the planet has heard about it, let alone random people at CMT. Rather, I think that CMT is simply trying to move more into the mainstream. The dividing line between 'country' and 'pop' has been blurred in recent years by Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and others. With such inroads made, it makes sense that they would try to capitalise on it by featuring artists that are not country. They reel in viewers who are interested in one thing, and maybe those viewers will stick around and watch other stuff. Personally, I don't care what label some cable station puts on the music that I like. If I like it, I like it. I don't write off something because it's associated with a genre of music that I don't tend to like. For example, I don't consider myself to be a country music fan, but two of my favourite artists (Cowboy Junkies and Wilco) are considered by some to be country (or alt-country, whatever the hell that means). So what? I like the music, and am happy to see them getting any sort of exposure. Likewise, I like Tori, and am perfectly happy to see her get some airplay. It's not like MTV is playing videos anymore, I say we take the exposure where we can get it. ;) /nm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 16:33:04 -0700 From: Brian K Tanaka Subject: Re: Tori on CMT [ . . . deletia . . . ] > Personally, I don't care what label some cable station puts on the > music that I like. So what? [ . . . deletia . . . ] Not to mention, say, Neko Case or Carla Bozulich. Or the Replacements, including Westerberg's solo work. I agree that the labels are best left by the wayside. The artists I most like and admire are disparate in terms of genre but all share the distinguishing feature of making the fact that their albums are filed in a certain region of a record store a flimsy abstraction. In fact, Tori's a good example in my case. With the notable exception of Joni, I never before listened to music "like Tori's" (whatever the hell that means), but the quality and compelling-ness of her work is so blindingly obvious to me that a label is only marginally useful, if useful at all. Yeah, I'd have to go with 'not at all'. Good music is good. Bad music is bad. (Except for the music that's so bad it's good, of course.) - -- - - Brian Tanaka - - Thunder Wishes, Fire Thought: http://www.well.com/~btanaka/tori ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2003 19:31:47 -0400 From: Cyndi S Crawford Subject: Re: Tori on CMT >I wouldn't guess that it has anything to do with Tori's cover of 'Desperado'.< No, but I'm figuring that they show her playing it cuz it's the Eagles' "country" song.. and.. I dunno. thedent.com says that they're gonna be showing her playing something on it sometime this week.. I assume that the countdown is what it is.. like maybe they're gonna highlight the different artists that have covered whatever songs they're talking about.. I'm not sure. >It's not like MTV is playing videos anymore, I say we take the exposure where we can get it. ;)< not good ol' MTV.. nope.. *bows her head in a moment of silence* heh heh.. yeah, I totally agree there. It just baffles me right now that CMT is playing stuff like Kid Rock (tho his latest album is more southern rock than rap rock.....) and starting to show us more Tori than they ever thought of doing.. I wonder why they're suddenly showing her to us on that channel? I REALLY do. Sincerely, Cyndi S.
