I will send the others if I can get them to forward from my other email account... Well, I must say, that I've seen Tori at the Key Arena before back in 99, but that was general admission. This wasn't and I scored 3rd row seats. We were the farthest seats to the right, but trust me these were pretty sweet seats. We couldn't see her hands, but we could see her clearly and she was facing us almost the whole time. :) Anyway...the show started with Wampum Prayer. The curtain dropped and out came Jon and Matt. They began to play A Sorta Fairytale and then out came Tori. She danced and waved herself to the piano bench, where she sat down and began to play. This song sounded much better live than I thought it would judging from the bootlegs I've heard from this tour. They then began to play Little Earthquakes (which my husband adores) and I got the feeling that this show was going to be an awesome experience. This was beautifully done, especially the "give me life, give me pain" part. Very moving. Sweet Sangria was next and I was excited. I love this song. Next came a rocking version of Take to the Sky. I absolutely love this song with the band. Liquid Diamonds came as a complete surprise. Never would have suspected it and it was a nice surprise. This song is beautiful live. Pancake - I love this song. Everytime I listen to it, I think, "what is there not to like?" And it was the same feeling live. Very happy to have heard this one. As soon as Wednesday started, I knew what it was, and it fucking rocked. This song rules! Jon and Matt left the stage. Tori then played an improv about a wonder boy and how the world was looking to us for answers. She then launched into Baker Baker and I almost fell off my chair. Seriously. About a week ago, my friend that I went to the concert with and my husband were discussing which songs we would want to hear Tori play. My friend voted for Siren or Butterfly. My husband wanted Gold Dust or Playboy Mommy. My votes were Baker Baker (#1), Carbon solo, and Alamo. You can imagine how I felt when she began Baker Baker. I could *not* believe it. Next came Carbon. I recognized it right off the bat and I just didn't know what to do. We were all amazed. :) This song is abosolutely gorgeous live. I can't even express it. This was followed immediately by Landslide, which is always beautiful. Jon and Matt came back out and they played Northern Lad. This is not one of my favorites, but I do love it. I swear Tori hasn't written a song yet that I don't like. Anyway, I have always felt that this song was Part 2 of Baker Baker, so I wasn't too shocked to hear it. And I always dig the "gets so fucking cold" part. It's the potty mouth in me. Concertina was next, followed by Sugar. Concertina was beautiful. I had never heard this song live before and it was lovely. Sugar was sweet and included the "you're just a pussy, my sweet boy", which received screams from the audience. Cornflake Girl - This song I normally skip because I have heard it so many times, but I throughly enjoyed it tonight. Tori was obviously enjoying playing this song and she did the little purr, which I love. Precious Things - I can never get enough of this song. The grrrl was not as long as some that I've heard, but it was great. I Can't See New York/Spring Haze - Beautiful. The audience was dead silent for I Can't See New York. I love the way she starts solo and then the band joins in. So dramatic. Towards the end of Spring Haze, some of the audience began to move up to the front, so we did too. :) We were against the barricade about 10 feet in front of Tori. :) They finished the song and then exited. Tori did her usually waves with her hands up near her face and then ran off the stage. Jon and Matt came back and began to play Taxi Ride. Tori came out and danced her way to the piano with plenty of butt-shaking. She is adorable. Taxi Ride is one of my favorites off of Scarlet's Walk so I was thrilled to hear it. Very rocking. Next was Waitress, which is another song I usually skip, but I certainly enjoyed it this time. Tori really enunciated the "I believe in peace, BITCH". They all left again and then came back to perform Tear in Your Hand. I love this song with the band. Beautiful. She waved at the "time to wave goodbye" part. Next came Your Cloud. I was happy she played this as it is one of my husband's favorites off the new album. Great night. Tori looked and sounded stunning. I did not notice any of the audio problems that others have complained about during the tour. Also, my husband and I both noticed some trippy sound manuevers and we were wondering if Howie is having an influence. If you read it this far, congrats, I hope I didn't bore you too much. Diana The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 21:27:16 -0700 (PDT) From: diana Subject: Portland, OR review Hopefully you all can stand another review. I never review shows and I don't have the best terminology, but I want to document the amazing time I had seeing Tori. Seattle and Portland were my 8th and 9th Tori shows. I've been seeing her since '94 and these two shows along with Salt Lake 01 were among the best. Some of you may know that I am a *huge* Howie Day fan (and you should be too), so I am including a review I wrote of him on the Howie Day message board. This was my second time seeing Howie live (the first being the night before in Seattle). We had awesome seats (7th row center) and could see more of the footwork going on. The night before we were 3rd row off to the right a bit and the view wasn't as good as tonight. Anyway, I thought that Sorry, So Sorry was a great opening song. Brace Yourself rules! Ghost was hot, especially the Beams of Light part. Howie sang "in the future, people will be sent to distant lands through beams of light" in both Portland and Seattle. He was so cute too, because when the got the whole in the future part recorded and going, he smiled this cute little grin and looked quite pleased with himself. Howie seemed much more relaxed at the Portland show as compared to the Seattle show, and he actually said more than "thank you, you're a nice audience." He said, "word" and asked if that was still cool to say. There were plenty of answers of Yes from the audience. He also introduced himself and said that he was the opening act, the opener, he was opening up. And he commented that playing the Chiles Center was like playing in a hat. And I believe he said something about how we were all tiny people in a hat. I could totally see what he meant because the place was a dome. Anyway, Howie fucking rules and I'm disappointed that I didn't get to meet him after either show. I had my Australia cd and a Sharpie just in case, but I think that my husband was afraid I'd run off with Howie if I met him. Him and my friend that was with us conspired against me both nights, and we just *had* to leave after both shows. Bastards. Oh yeah, in Seattle he did a very quick robot dance, I think during Ghost. And in Portland a large share of the audience gave him a standing ovation which was pretty sweet. I also heard many people sitting around me that didn't know who he was before tonight remarking on how awesome he was and many bought his cd during the intermission. Go Howie. I would kill to see him headline a show, but for now, I must enjoy my bootlegs. On to Tori's segment of the show...... Opened with Wampum and then ASF. Same comments as my previous comments in my Seattle review. Bliss - I love this song! Hearing this I again expected a great night and was not disappointed. Black-Dove - Beautiful. During the "cowboys and snakes they are my kin" she rubbed her belly. Sweet Sangria - at first I thought she was going to play Don't Make Me Come to Vegas, which I would have loved hearing, but this song rules. Space Dog - Sweet. This song is always great live and this did not disappoint. A couple of screams during "pissing in the river". When she had played the first few notes, I asked my husband if he knew what the song was and he said, "mr. microphone". I adore the fact that he knows these songs after the first few notes. :) Crucify - I love the version she is doing this tour. Especially because when she's not playing the piano, she can be more expressive in her actions. Past the Mission - She played the first few notes and I was like, "Past the Mission." But then she went into this improv about "she" and how "she likes to visit in the morning" and then I was thinking Marianne? Anastasia?? But then back to Past the Mission. Beuatiful song. Wednesday - Can this song get any better live? Love it! Jon and Matt left and then Tori played a couple of notes that sounded suspiciously like Gold Dust, which my husband was dying to hear. She then did the improv I'm sure you've all read about on the dent. She ended it by saying that we would never know what we were missing unless we got the setlist from her husband. (I later read that she was going to play Leather and am glad she didn't). She played Alamo instead! I almost died. After hearing Baker Baker the night before, the new song I would love to hear was Alamo and was not expecting to *at all* because she so rarely plays it. I was wondering if somehow I was channling through her. After the Seattle show, my friend and husband were teasing me by asking me to have her play the songs they wanted to hear. I tried, but she just wanted to play my songs I guess. Alamo was as wonderful live as I thought it would be. Immediately following Alamo came Mother. I just about died of pleasure. This is my favorite Tori song ever and she played it last time we saw her in Portland. Very, very awesome! I couldn't believe my good fortune. Mary - Was not expecting this and it was mind-blowing. Wow! Jon and Matt returned and they played 1000 Oceans. This was the closest I have come to crying at a Tori show. I listened to this song so much after my father passed away and I began to suspect his presence at the show. Damn. Pancake - I adore this song. In Seattle, she did a crotch grab at "vortex" but tonight she made a motion from her neck down to her chest. Girl - Holy shit, I was so not expecting this, but I have always hoped to hear it live. We didn't go to the Vancouver show, because of time constraints, and it was the one song from that show that I was disappointed to miss. This song is awesome with the band. And I love the background lyrics she sings. Playboy Mommy - Ah hah. Sending my Playboy Mommy request for my husband telepathically to Tori worked! Hee hee. He was thrilled. I Can't See New York/Spring Haze - Same comments as from the Seattle show. More people moved up front than the night before, but we stayed in our seats, because they rocked. Tori and boys left and then returned in the same manner as the night before, except we were treated to a rocking new version of In the Springtime of His Voodoo. Virginia was next. This is probably my least favorite off of the new album, but it was still beautiful. Here. In My Head (solo) - Christ almighty, this woman was truly playing all the songs I hoped to hear. This song is so beautiful live. Second encore - Taxi Ride - The audience was dancing up a storm. Pandora's Aquarium - great ending to a spectacular evening. By the way, Tori had on these awesome leopard print boots and a big choker style necklace that had a little feather charm hanging from it. Two great nights thanks to Howie, Tori, Jon and Matt. Diana The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 21:41:13 -0700 (PDT) From: diana Subject: Spokane Review Hey, Here's the last one. The pictures mentioned in it, along with a couple of others, can be found at....www.geocities.com/frangipani420/concertpics Hi all, This may not be the most informative, descriptive concert review ever, but I'll give it a little try. First of all, the concert was on a Tuesday, but we headed up to Ritzville, WA on Friday to meet up with a good friend who was driving over from Bozeman for the show. We met in Ritzville, because her Grandma lives there and we figured we spend a few days there just hanging out until the concert. Ritzville is a very small town about 50 miles outside of Spokane. It is made up of mostly widows at this time. Saturday night, my husband, friend, and her mom decided to hit all the Ritzville bars before dinner. All three of them! Well, two out of three of them had jukeboxes that had A Sorta Fairytale in them! I took pictures of them, because I just couldn't believe that the first time I was seeing Tori in a jukebox was in fricking Ritzville, WA. Lol Here, I'll attach the best picture.... And you know I had to play ASF in both bars. :) We headed to Spokane on Monday. Unfortunately we went out Monday night and got totally shit faced. In one bar we went to there in the jukebox was the whole Scarlet's Walk album, so we played Carbon. I was so stoked. I couldn't believe I was listening to Tori at the bar. It was sweet. At another bar, there was a Tori poster on the wall. It was the DDI tour poster. So of course, I took a picture of that too. Lol. We went to a bunch of bars, but later returned to the DDI poster one. When we walked in there was a guy up onstage playing a Howie Day cover. If memory serves me correctly and it probably doesn't, he was playing Morning After. I could clarify that fact with my husband, but he is in the shower. Anyway, the day of the concert, I was freaking hung over like you wouldn't believe. I never drink. Anymore. So, my friend and her cousin came to our hotel room, from which we could see the Opera House an! d we walked into town to get some lunch. We also stopped and my husband took my friend and I's picture underneath the sign announcing Tori's show. I'll attach that picture too, just for fun.... So on to the concert. This was my 10th show, and my husband and friend's 6th show. We sat through Rhett Miller and applauded politely, but none of us were into him. My husband and I were both like, "he's no Howie that's for sure." Now here's the setlist and my comments if any.... Wampum Prayer a sorta fairytale Strange Little Girl - I was so stoked to hear this! It sounded fabulous live and I felt that after this song, the night may be quite special. Girl - I've heard this live with band before, but damn, is it good. Cornflake Girl - Tori did the ever wonderful crotch grab and the purr. Past The Mission Talula - This included the "who the fuck the father is" line, which as you know, it's always lovely to hear Tori say fuck. I was very happy to hear this song. Also during the part where she sings, "what you want is in the blood", she added George. Lol. I thought she was making a comment regarding the war, but she also did that pregnancy hand gesture, like where she's running her hands over her big pregnant belly, so my friend thought she was talking about George trying to ban abortion. Hmmm. Mary - I heard this either at the Seattle or Portland show last year, but it's always a bit of a thrill to hear it. Tori grabbed her boobs very vigorously during the "fill their mouths with some acid rain" line. Loved it. Wednesday Band Leaves Never Seen Blue - before this song she did an improv about Natashya liking trains and seeing them on tv. Natashya also sees the guns and scary ladies on tv and thinks it's a game. Tori told her "it's not a game". There was obviously more to this improv than that, but I don't remember exactly. It was very emotional for me and my friend though. During Never Seen Blue, Tori appeared to be making eyes at Mark, even though she probably couldn't see him! I really love this song and was thrilled to hear it live. Gorgeous. Mother - anyone who knows me knows that this is my favorite tori song. It took me about 5 or 6 shows before I ever heard it live and now she keeps playing it when I see her. I think this made the third time. It was gorgeous as usual. I love the piano in this song. Etienne - I love this song too and it was beautiful. Band returns Josephine - So happy to hear this. Take To The Sky - Lovely. Playboy Mommy - My husband's favorite Tori song and we were all hoping for it, so it was a nice surprise. Don't Make Me Come To Vegas - 1st time hearing this live. Nice. Hotel I Can't See New York Iieee 1st Encore Precious Things - Earlier, when she introduced the band, she promised to play this song if we didn't fall asleep on her. She also talked about a very special man who got her into comics that is from Spokane. Not sure if she was talking about Neil or someone that introduced her to Neil. She said that the person stayed in her apartment and because she is such a nice person, she let him sleep on the couch and she slept on the floor. Right when we were all thinking, "what a sweetheart", she admitted that the couch was a piece of crap and she had been sleeping in it for about a month and her back hurt because of it. Hee hee. Another Girl's Paradise - Was happy to hear this live and enjoyed it. 2nd Encore Space Dog - I swear she plays this song a lot when I see her, but I love it, so it's cool. Although we were hoping she would play Gold Dust, because my husband loves that song. But no, as soon as we saw Jon and Matt come out, we were like, Fuck! Has she every played that song since that asshole in CA yelled out for Silent All These Years during it? Putting The Damage On - Never heard this live and it was awesome. I could see Joel standing off to the right side of the stage and he was rocking side to side during it. ;) And that was that. I didn't go to the meet'n'greet, but I did walk by and see everyone out there waiting. The girls in front of us during the concert brought a little girl who was probably 4 or 5 with them. It was okay, but she kept lifting her kitty with fairy wings stuffed animals straight up in the air and she was sitting on her mom's lap right in front of my husband, so that was kind of obnoxious. Lots of people in front of us kept getting up to go to the bathroom or whatever and that was annoying. And one more comment...there was girl off to the right and during Cornflake Girl she was the only one in the entire joint standing up dancing. If she had been in front of me I would have been very annoyed. Our seats were pretty good. We were in the 8th row a little left of center. Very nice. The sound overall was very good, but briefly during a couple of songs there was a buzzing sound coming from the speakers. If you read all that, you rock! Diana The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier.
