Posted Tue, Apr 22, 2003 - 12:03pm ET | Tour There is a listing at www.artscenter.com/events/ that says that on August 22, 2003, there will be a show by Tori Amos with special guest Ben Folds at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ! If you combine this information with the info Matt Chamberlain recently revealed , then it appears that Tori will be doing about a month or so of dates in August with Ben Folds as a special guest. The web site says that tickets go on sale Sat, April 26, 2003, which is this coming Saturday. The link at artscenter.com points to a listing for this show at CC.com that says the tickets will go on sale at 9:00AM on April 26, 2003. So it looks like this is the first date we have for the summer. I am sure many more will follow! Thanks to Dawn, Mike D. and Kate for first telling me. and the blurb about matt's journal entry: Matt Chamberlain posts some interesting Tori-related comments on his web site about her tour and maybe more... Posted Mon, Apr 21, 2003 - 10:02pm ET | Tour Matt says that after Tori finishes the current leg of her tour this month, she will take off until August 2003 and then go on the road for one more month. So perhaps the third U.S. leg will be one month of dates in August. We will keep an eye on this and see what happens. Matt also posts something about recording material that COULD be interpreted to mean a "Greatest Hits" album by Tori which could be coming out later this year... so, perhaps the confusion about the "touring until august" comments are finally going to be set to rest... woj ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 13:51:04 -0500 From: "Sarah Bowman" Subject: Re: august tori tour news! Any advice would help a lot! Thanks. even if you don't get to see or speak to tori, meet'n'greets are a lot of fun -- hanging out and talking to fellow fans is never a bad thing. of course, it would be great to talk to tori as well -- she's the reason for the season, as it were -- but, to be totally honest, i don't think anyone should go to one of these things with the expectation that they WILL be able to talk to tori since, for a lot of people, it just doesn't happen. woj p.s. speaking of touring, has *anyone* on this list gone to the west coast shows? i've seen the setlists posted at the dent but i'd be curious to hear about the shows from anyone who did go! just because precious-things is a moderated and tori-focused lists doesn't mean that it has to be a moribund list! ;) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 13:04:46 -0700 (PDT) From: e m Subject: Re: august tori tour news! damn! rant. i *just* got tickets for bjork for that day!! so pissed. why god?!?! WHY??! and PNC??? its so close to where i live (fifteen minutes) and yet the acoustics there suck ass royally. last time she was there in 99 it was horrible, her vocals were barely audible to me and my sister (and it was her first tori show!) and it all sounded so fuzzy. i really wish she'd do the NJPAC again b/c at least there the acoustics are crystalene. my only hope is to sell my bjork tickets and get the tickets for the next night, or that tori schedules more dates in the area, or that i just deal with the fact i don't *have* to see tori every possible chance...did i just say that? sorry for the rant, all.-e ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 14:05:06 -0700 From: "Melissa" Subject: Re: The Backyard in Austin Meet and Greet > p.s. speaking of touring, has *anyone* on this list gone to the west coast > shows? i've seen the setlists posted at the dent but i'd be curious to hear > about the shows from anyone who did go! just because precious-things is a > moderated and tori-focused lists doesn't mean that it has to be a moribund > list! ;) I have! I went to the SLO one last week. I had a great time. I had the best seat I have ever had for Tori.. Row 2, seat 7...right in Tori's line of vision while she played. The whole thing is a blur in my mind, because it went by so fast, and was amazing. Tori seemed very relaxed and like she was enjoying playing the show very much. She danced with the piano several times while starting songs, and she kept exchanging smiles with John and Matt the whole time. They all three were exchanging smiles and making each other laugh during the concert, which was really great. I was happy to see them having fun up there. The set list was awesome...and the sound unfortunately had a bit too much bass... but I still loved it. There was one point though, I think during Siren that I seriously could not hear the piano or understand a word Tori was singing...it just turned into this muddled unintelligible sound. Ah well. I cried during Merman...I don't know if Tori really makes eye contact with the audience, but it seems like it! I swear I made eye contact with her a couple of times...but I could have just been imagining it. She had tears in her eyes during Merman, and it was emotional that I couldn't help but cry. The audience was the best one I have been in yet. Everyone remained seated the whole time [at least, in the first few rows, I don't know about behind me.]. People clapped and yelled at the ends of songs, instead of screaming I LOVE YOU TORI every 4 seconds like usual. Even if they were yelling, she can't hear you if you aren't in the first few rows during a loud song. The sound drowns you all out, so it barely sounds like someone *might* be talking but that's about it. I was grateful to be in such a respectful well manered audience though. Thank you guys! Also, even thought people rushed the stage for encore, it wasn't bad. People respected each other, and that was really cool. Joel only had to come out one time, which was good. The lighting was beautiful, but I had to squint and shield my eyes a few times from the blinding array of them which was somewhat annoying...oh well. I kinda exaggerated my reactions to the light in hopes that Tori, or Matt, Or John, or one of the stage crew would see how annoying it was...but I doubt they noticed. lol. Tori talked more with the audience, and it was really cute. I am really glad I went. Sorry I didn't put a set list....there is one at the Dent though. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 14:50:26 -0700 (PDT) From: diana Subject: Re: The Backyard in Austin Meet and Greet I went to Spokane, Seattle, and Portland. She LIVES to make eye contact. If she doesn't have people within eyeball range she's a not-so-happy worker. She performed in bars with people sitting around her piano for eleven years and this is how she likes to operate. As for her blatantly staring at people to get them to be more engaged with the music and to visibly react, she's like on a mission from God. She eats that up like bread and butter. And she's not starving on that score, either, I can assure you. I was on the front row in Green Bay, right in front of Tori, and she stared at me for so long during Winter, that I thought I was going to die. It was a little creepy, because I'd been hoping to hear Winter the entire chunk of shows I was going to, and then she's staring at me while she's doing it, like somehow she knew that was the song I was waiting for, even though I never said anything about it to anyone. I never really thought she looked directly at people during shows, and she just gave a generic look off into the dark masses of the crowd, until I was on the first couple of rows for a few shows and can really tell that she's looking directly at people. And yeah, amazing and unsettling at the same time, with the length and sometimes not necessarily happy look she has on at some times. It's one thing when she's smiling and looking at the crowd, but during a more "down" song, when she's staring at you, it's indescribably weird I think. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 16:42:33 -0700 From: "Melissa" Subject: Re: The Backyard in Austin Meet and Greet >She LIVES to make eye contact. I just kept looking back because I love doing that to people.. hehe. It was really neat. She has such an intense gaze! She saw me cry during Merman...I closed my eyes and let the tears roll down, I had to do that twice, and I looked back up and she was looking...and I kept making eye contact then, cuz I was trying to see if she was crying...it seemed like it. it's pretty freaky actually making eye contact with people who are doing a concert...most performers try to avoid it so that they don't get distracted. I just wasn't sure if I was just making something out of nothing..but now I don't think I was. Thanks!
