I have to agree with the first poster tho. The stage lights being directed into the eyes of the audience is *extremely* annoying. I wish someone would mention it to her or someone with her crew, so maybe they'd think twice about it. At the shows I saw both on this tour and SLG there were times when I would have to close my eyes because I couldn't see *anything* and the lights were so blinding it was painful. I want to see Tori and as much of her expression as I can when I'm at a show, and I don't want a spotlight in my face making me unable to. I forget what song on SLG it was that they had a blinding blue light shining out from behind her for most of the song...it ruined it for me, I couldn't see her performance at all. *shrug* Just my feelings, for what they're worth, but I've seen a number of other reviews complaining about it too. Your description sounded intelligent and experienced enough to stand on its own, that is, without me criticizing it. I'm sooo sorry the show did not make the personal connection it usually does. I experienced that during the Seattle Key Arena Choirgirl concert. That's why I now make every attempt to attend at least 2 of her concerts on every tour now. Most of the time one is invariably better than the other, and the personal connection you speak of can vary accordingly depending on several things. About the band. I saw Tori on this tour in both Portland and Seattle. I thought the bass was WAY too over-amplified. But that's my opinion, and just an observation. I honestly wonder why she chose to set it up that way...? It would have sounded MUCH better with a guitar. Fortunately, this disapointment wasn't large enough to distract from the whole experience. I had a good time!! Tony What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Mar 2003 06:33:28 -0800 (PST) From: e m Subject: Re: indianapolis show sorry you had a somewhat not good first time with the band. i totally agree that they should serve alcohol at tori shows, it ruined two of the 5 shows i went to on this tour. well, not ruin, tainted. being up close is not so good for the acoustics, especially with the band. its always best to be somewhat back (and center) like near the soundboards. i was near the soundboards for tori nyc first night and it was crystal clear, second night, i was 5 row loge, and it was clear (but the drunk witch in front of me talking the entire show was also crystal clear) and the last night we were 10th row or something, and acoustics bounced all over the place, we were on the left of the center and had great view of the piano, but john & the bass were definately louder, and the drum sounds were bouncing all over. and of course there were obnoxious people that last night screaming at the wrong moments. i love that tori wants to rock out more, but it brings along a grosser element to the show. i too, was in college (soph) when little earthquakes came out and i have loved her from the start. the early shows just showed me the magic of this artist that like you said, would create this atmosphere of reverence, where you'd hear a pin drop. i always thought that it was amazing to be able to mezmorize us so. its easy to have a rockin concert where the crowd is louder than the band and all high energy, but to have an entire audience sit in stillness to watch every sound. that was truly amazing. i dont think these concerts with the band are at either end of the spectrum, but they are definately somewhere in the middle and the alcohol being served at these venues doesnt help. not that every person going to the concert cant hold their liquor, but all it takes is one person to get smashed and ruin it for those around them. hope you get to experience a better (acoustically speaking) live show with the band. - -ellen ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V8 #74 ************************************
