I have to agree with you here. I saw the first and second NYC shows and the Camden show in November. These were all great, but I do have to say I was somewhat disappointed that the second NYC show was as similar as it was to the show the night before. Also, by looking at the setlists on The Dent, it seems to me that they are the least varying sets of any previous tours. You've got five songs that are played at every show, plus several that show up at just about every show: Take to the Sky, Cornflake Girl, Taxi Ride, and Sweet Sangria. That just doesn't leave room for a lot of variation. I give Tori credit for varying the sets as much as she does, especially since so many performers stick to the same show every night. However, the setlists on this tour are somewhat of a let down compared to other tours. I also don't understand why she seems to be avoiding so many songs from her new album ("Another Girl's Paradise," "Gold Dust," and "Scarlet's Walk" have beeen under-represented in the sets, IMHO). That makes little sense to me. Don't get me wrong here: Tori is awesome live and you do have a chance at every show to hear stuff you've never heard before. I'll keep seeing her. I just wish she would mix it up a little more. toodles, Tom M. "I will climb the ridge at daybreak, I will kiss the sky at noon, Raise my yearning voice at midnight to my mother in the moon." I saw her in Detroit on the first leg of this tour, and then recently in Grand Rapids, and I thought I heard quite a few repeats. I understand that she is promoting Scarlet's Walk and should be playing a lot of songs from that album, but do they have to be the same songs? When she played in Grand Rapids, my favorite songs were "Horses" and "Putting the Damage On" partly because they were so unexpected. ~~julie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Mar 2003 13:50:29 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: precious-things-digest V8 #67 Tom said: > Also, by looking at the setlists on The Dent, it seems to me that they > are the least varying sets of any previous tours. That just doesn't leave room for a lot of variation. Whenever people talk about a lack of song variety with respect to the current tour they seem to always overlook the fact that the concerts on this tour are fully 30 minutes longer than any prior tour. This allows for the perception of five or six songs which may be regularly repeated having reduced the variety of songs between concerts overall. These songs constitute a sub-set of songs which one can toss out of the consideration entirely when one compares this tour to others because they are songs added onto the length of any previous tour's concerts. Also, I never heard anyone anywhere so far exclaim, "Wow, she's playing concerts this time out that are so much longer now! We've been getting a ton of songs every night! How wonderful!" The glass looks half full to me. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. I myself am VERY happy that for my first tour experience **EVER**, Tori played something of a marathon by ADDING 30 minutes to the concert instead of SUBTRACTING 30 minutes, which is probably something she should be doing instead as a mother to a 2 year old and so on, etc etc. I truly think Tori knows what her fans want, and is more than willing to deliver, by giving us the extended shows. That's what I love about her, in fact--she cares about her fans. :) Sincerely, Cyndi S. That's what I love >about her, in fact--she cares about her fans. :) okay i agree with all points said, and yet, i think when she first began the first few nights that were over 2 hours long we were all more than jumping up and down for joy, but since then have maybe taken it for granted? and during the DDI tour her shows were equally long, and yet it just seemed to vary more in setlists...but that was DDI this is SW and the thing i think we are forgetting is that scarlet is a thread and she is doing that on this tour. songs are threaded together so if she brings out one, she'll bring out the other, i guess. makes for more chances of repeat songs i guess...but i have a fever presently, so i am talking from high in the sky land. hope everyone enjoyed/is enjoying this tour as much as i did (with exception of the drunken rude people at camden & nyc 3/7) in tori love, ellen ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Mar 2003 23:02:32 -0500 From: Cyndi S Crawford Subject: Tori on Oxygen WOOHOO!!!! perfect closer!!
