I was so thrilled last year when visiting a friend in San Francisco, he said she was playing at a local coffee house ... I'm not used to singing along out-of-tune with a cd I've fallen so much for, and then the next day nervously chatting to the artist before she performs in the backroom of a cafe! Vienna had just quit her job and I thought 'yikes' - the difference between a computer engineer's stable life and that of a struggling new musician! But her new record label 'Virt' are doing a great job for a small outfit. There are mp3s at www.viennateng.com. Gravity, The Tower and Between are my favourites, and many people's favourites. Though a piano girl, I wouldn't call her too Tori-ish because .. well, besides from being newer to music and with a voice that is still strengthening, there is a reserved quality .. no, more meditative, or quietness to her, not the soul-baring flamboyance of Tori, Vienna doesn't burst out of her songs with such a flaming personality. I love the details in Vienna's lyrics, they're very well crafted.
