The last song was Gold Dust, and at the very last "gold dust.. (she choked up on Gold) in our hands.." and then some stupid bitch yelled something out in the midst of this emotional silence, and Tori instantly replied, "Fuck You!" Anyway, i just wanted to find out what's most popular as far as having people pay me for copies.. i'm not interested in trading. i just want my time and supplies paid for. i know woj has a lot of experience doing this.. but if anyone knows specific information, please email me, as i'm new to this. also, do i send a copy to trusted individuals so as to give others faith in the quality of my recording? Please do not email me if you are simply interested in getting a copy. Be assured you guys will be first to know when it's ready to ship. thanks to everyone's future help, micah maranda ps~ i can't get over how awesome the recording is.. i'm almost more excited about that than i am about seeing tori!! we'll thank my lovely boyfriend who works as an audio engineer at Apple Computer!! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 05:24:14 -0800 From: "Tony Fernandes" Subject: Fw: SF SHOW 12-21 RECORDED "micah maranda bailey" wrote: "i was at the SF show tonight, and i recorded the show." Set list? Tony What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 10:02:37 -0500 From: dances with virgos Subject: Re: SF SHOW 12-21 RECORDED one time at band camp, micah maranda bailey said: >i was at the SF show tonight, and i recorded the show. > >we got in the car and started playing it, and it sounds AWESOME! i mean, >it sounds like it's a studio recording (with a Hall sound) with applause. woo hoo! what do you record the show with? what kind of microphones did you use? is the applause significantly louder than the music? where were you sitting in the auditorium? >Anyway, i just wanted to find out what's most popular as far as having >people pay me for copies.. i'm not interested in trading. i just want my >time and supplies paid for. well, i'm probably the wrong person to ask since my philosophy is that live recordings/bootlegs should never be paid for -- i record shows for myself and am happy to share them with others without making a buck since it's not my music to make money off. so, what i do when i record a show and unleash it on the masses is: (1) create shorten files so that the recording can be distributed via the net (ftp, usenet, furthur, etc.) in a lossless, compressed format. shorten files are smaller than wav/aiff files (typically 50% smaller), but they are still big, so the shorten approach is only useful for those with high-speed connections (whether residential broadband or a fast connection at work/school). (2) offer up "blanks & postage" trades. basically, people send me blank cds and stamps, i burn the shows they want and return the cds to them using the postage provided. i do not get reimbursed for my time, but since burning discs is a background activity for me, this is not really a big deal. lots of details (including, imho, a rather extensive and overly anal set of instructions -- but that's just me) at . if neither of those options appeal to you, there is the "flat fee" approach where you basically set a price which you think is fair to cover the cost of blank cds, psotage, shipping materials, artwork (if you plan on providing it) and your time. once upon a time, flat fees were a pretty common practice in the tori trading community, but they seem to be falling out of favor. for one thing, a lot of the tapers (myself included) frown upon them since money exchanging hands -- even if it's just covering cost -- is more likely to attract unwanted attention. plus, as more and more people jump on the shorten boat, less and less people are interested in paying for these things. another thing to keep in mind -- once you send out a show, it will be circulated by other means. just because you are the recorder does not mean that you are the only source people will get it from. it's not uncommon for someone to buy a show only to turn around and make it freely available to everyone else. so, there's not really much incentive to corner the market, so to speak, especially now that anyone can make a perfect copy of a cd without any quality loss. >also, do i send a copy to trusted individuals so as to give others faith >in the quality of my recording? well, if you are not a known taper, that might not be a bad idea. but you really don't have to do this. there is no "auditing board" for tori bootlegs. word just gets around. woj ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 13:37:05 -0500 From: Cyndi S Crawford Subject: Re: SF SHOW 12-21 RECORDED >The last song was Gold Dust, and at the very last "gold dust..
