Hi Conny! I don't know which one Tori read (or if she read only one for that matter), but your post is quite the coincidence for me. I recently ordered a pile of books and one of them happens to be "The Hero With A Thousand Faces". Now, bear in mind that I haven't even opened the book yet -- it's in one of the stacks of books I haven't read yet -- so this isn't a recommendation from personal experience. BUT, I can tell you that this is the Campbell book I've heard about most often and, according to the blurb on the back of the book anyway, it's "often cited as Joseph Campbell's best book". THE HERO OF A THOUSAND FACES is a sort of thesis/investigation work. It is really full of quoates and interesting facts and information about all different cultures. The book basically state this (I will not go into too much detail as not to ruin your interest or Brian's, becuase both of U haven't read it yet ;): All Myths, Fables and Fairy Tales have the same pattern. A person that is mistreated in his homeland, then this person by diffrent reasons travels to a foreing land, there suffers and this sufferring enlightens him/her, so he comes back and share his knowledge with the people that mistreated him/her or missunderestood him/her. With this basis in mind, he explains all kind of literature from Little Reed Ridding Hood, to Passages from the Biblle. Along the way he describes and includes very interesting Fairy Tales from India, Greece, China, Japan and more Foreing Countries. It is very enlightening ! :) I think You should buy this one! I got interested in this book after reading Tori's 1998 ROLLING STONE interview. There they mentioned him and said that HERO was the basis for the Trilogy of STAR WARS. I think that BOYS FOR PELE was in a sort of way inspired by this book, think of how the songs are separated by the interludes making the bunch of songs into different faces: 1- Beauty Queen / Horses 2- Blood Roses 3- Father Lucifer 4-Professional Widow (Phase 1 a Person Being mistreated and being hurt) 5- Mister Zebra 6-Marianne 7-Caught A Lite Sneeze 8-Muhammed My Friend 9-Hey Jupiter (Phase 2 The Suffering on a Foreing Land, the decent to Hell) 10-Way Down 11-Little Amsterdam 12-Talula 13-Not The Red Baron 14-Agent Orange (Phase 3 Process Of Healing and Enlightment) 15-Doughtnut Song 16-In The SpringTime Of his Voodo 17-Putting The Damage On 18-Twinkle (Phase 4 The Process of Asimilation of suffering and the return to the homeland to share the newly adquired knowledge) I think You got very much an idea of how the book goes, said this, the book is not THAT plain as it appears in my mail to be, it is xtremely rich and has so many points of view and layers you will come back often to re-read and try to underestand. It took me almost 2 years to read it all the way! :) Thinking about it I think SW can also be analized with this pattern, I never thought of that before ;) Thanks for making me think that :) Hope It was helpful :) See Ya :) Daniel - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Conny Tear in your hand" To: Sent: Wednesday, December 04, 2002 3:20 AM Subject: Re: ..Joseph Campell.. > > @brian: > >ps. China had to actually pass (mostly forced by the US, RIAA and MPAA) a copyright declaration or somesuch to continue getting supplied products by the US.
